Outsourcing Works – we will prove it!Outsourcing has an image problem. It’s a dirty word in many peoples’ eyes.

According to original research commissioned by the National Outsourcing Association, a staggering 80% of the general publicdo not think that outsourcing benefits UK PLC.

This is in spite of research last year stating outsourcing to be the second

biggest contributor to GDP, weighing in with 8%, only a nose behind the

8.1% from the finance sector. On top of that, outsourcing contributes

£14 billion in business taxes, and outsourcers hand over £21 billion

in income tax a year.

Through the NOA research, the public laid down some scenarios that

would make them more amenable to outsourcing:

• 70% want evidence of how many UK jobs are created by outsourcing

• 69% want proof of how much outsourcing positively contributes to

the UK economy

• 55% demand less wasting of taxpayers’ cash in public sector contracts

Through Outsourcing Works, our flagship campaign for 2012/13, the NOA

is looking to gather a body of evidence that will address these issues and

so further the prospects of our entire industry.

The CampaignWe at the NOA really care about our industry, our profession and our reputation. Currently, we are anindustry in turmoil – largely due to misunderstandings. Our awareness campaign will increaseunderstanding on a number of levels, including:

• Outsourcing delivers value. We will prove this business process works through end user research, extrapolated to give macro-economic impact and supported by a wide range of qualitative case studies. In short, the best performing companies outsource, and this in turn is good for the UK economy - we will prove this!

• Outsourcing is a professional profession. Outsourcing needs to both protect and develop its reputation as a good industry to work in, or else struggle to attract the best talent in the future. It is a professional profession – with standards and qualifications. People development and employee satisfaction is key to our industry. We are developing the talent of the future and working to position the UK as the global strategic hub for the outsourcing industry

• Outsourcing gives back. As an industry we enable reinvestment and growth. As the second largest employer in the UK, with appropriate governmental support, we have a strong potential to ease youth unemployment in the UK

• Sharing best practice. The outsourcing industry is uniting to help the government become a more intelligent consumer of services, spreading its best practice message to improve procurement through government via the All Party Group on Outsourcing and Shared Services

Outsourcing Works aims to both grow and improve the industry. A collective movement, with all players involved, it willprovide a unified voice for all areas of the industry – consumers, suppliers, advisors, rookies and veterans alike.

Outsourcing Works. Proven empirically, andunequivocally, this is a powerful messageand there are many benefits to beingconnected with it.

• Reach out globally, promoting and encouraging adherence to standards

• Engender more of a sense of community within the outsourcing industry

• Engage with Government, to help it become a more intelligent consumer (which should in turn result in more public sector outsourcing)

• Convert hesitant potential consumers to embrace the opportunity of outsourcing

• Define outsourcing and educate businesses on how to make the most of it

• Educate the industry on latest trends and developments in focus areas / verticals

• Educate the public on the benefits outsourcing brings – make them more amenable to the whole concept, which should make outsourcing less of a PR challenge

• Enlist experienced outsourcing consumers to join the Outsourcing Innovators Club, sharing best practice through experience, and promoting the word

• Reach up to C-suite so they feel comfortable being an active part of the “Outsourcing Community”
