2, The general objective of ALIS is to improve the flow of information and the exchange of information between the' League of the Arab States /AI/, the Arab Specialized Organizations /SOS/ within the framework of the League and the Arab countries, The System should provide information for policy-naldng, planning, decision-maldng and problem-solving at the regional, intergovernmental and national levels by co-operation, Umoniza- tion and co-ordination of the activities of the elements of the System, elimination of unnecessary duplications of their efforts and thuB increasing their information capabilities and inproving -the quality of their services,

These inventories will provide the basia for the detailed elaboration of the distribution of functions and work at the regional level and will facilitate, by their comparative evaluation, the exchange of experience in information infrastruo- ture development bebeen the Arab States and between the AS08 and BSOs.
