Chapter 1THE PROBLEM AND REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Introduction

This portion introduces the problem area that indicates the

importance and validity of the particular problem. Suitable

background information maybe incorporated into this introductory

statement. It should indicate the need to study the problem. This

refers to the need for the research, what are its contributions to

the field, both teaching and research efforts, and/or policy

making. (at least 5 pages)

Review of Related Literature

This refers to the body of literature related to the study

being proposed or a discussion of how the research proposal is

related with the current researches in the field.

(at least 10 each   literatures and studies conducted for the

past 5 years)

Theoretical Framework of Reference

This cites the bases of the study through a discussion of the

different established laws, models, theories and principles that

provide the conceptual underpinnings of the study or the

legitimate bases for defining its parameters. The conceptual

paradigm is also included in this part.

Statement of the Problem

This refers to what the proponent intends to investigate and

what he/she wants to accomplish in the research. It is a clear andsharply defined statement of the actual problem. There should be a

main problem and then breaking it down into specific questions.

 Assumptions(optional)

This is sometimes included to strengthen the research but is

made optional if already reflected in the introductory background.

Hypothesis

It states expected or tentative conclusions that maybe

reached. This is needed only to sub – problems that need to be

tested. If there are no problems to be tested, then they getomitted. It should be stated in the null form.

Scope and Limitations

This should be explicit in terms of the coverage of the

study, and period of time involved in the investigation.

Significance of the Study

A short paragraph explaining why the research is important

and what possible effects the results of the study will have on

present conditions. It presents how different individuals or

groups are benefited by the results of the study. It should be

presented in hierarchical order.

Definition of Terms

This is to define all unusual terms used that can be

misinterpreted. This definition helps to establish the frame of

reference with which the researcher approaches the problem. Terms

can be defined through

a.  standard definitionb.  operational definitionc.  explaining instead of definingd.  spelling out abbreviations and acronyms

Chapter 2 Methods

Research Design

This describes how the research will be carried out and what

research design will be used together with a reason of why the

design is appropriate.

Respondents/Subjects of the Study

The targeted samples/subjects/ population who will make

possible the generation of data needed.

Sample and Sampling Techniques

This describes the quantity of the sample, how it was

determined and the sampling methodology used to select the sample.

Instrumentation

This describes the instrument/tool that will be used to

gather the needed data. (e.g. questionnaire, interview guide,

tests, etc.)

Data Gathering ProceduresA list of procedures/sequential steps that will be used for

the completion of the study

Data Analysis

This describes statistical tools and how will it be used to

present and interpret the gathered data.
