Topic: SynesthesiaGeneral Purpose: To InformSpecific Purpose: To inform my audience about one of the most perplexing

    neurological phenomenons, synesthesia.

Thesis: From number-form synesthesia to sound-color synesthesia, this perceptual condition remains a mystery to many experts around the world.

    I. Introduction

    A. Attention Getter:

When people hear the phrase brain disorder, they almost always immediately think about schizophrenia or ADHD, but not all of them are as bad as they seem.

    B. Reason to Listen:

The nature of brain disorders has perplexed scientists for centuries. Synesthesia is a very interesting topic, and related disasters in history, and it is important to have insight about the abnormalities of the mind should you want to work in the medical field.

    C. Thesis Statement:From misophonia to lexical-gustatory synesthesia, this rare condition remains a fascinating discovery.

    D. Credibility Statement:

    1. I have been interested in this topic ever since I read a book about itseveral years ago.

    2. I have researched this topic thoroughly and gathered information fromthe Internet.

    E. Preview of Main Points:

    1. First, I will discuss what synesthesia is.

A.2. Second, I will discuss the symptoms associated with this condition.

  • A.3. Finally, I will discuss some variations of synesthesia.

II. From misophonia to lexical-gustatory synesthesia, this rare condition remains afascinating discovery.

A . Synesthesia comes from the Greek, meaning to perceive together. According toresearch, one in two thousand people are synesthetes.

A.1. According to scientists, this rare condition is biological.

A.1.a. Synesthesia is a neurological, perceptual condition where some of your senses are intertwined. The activation of one sense causes you to experience an involuntary sensation of another sense.

A.1.b. People with synesthesia often recall being driven to silence afterrealizing that their strange ability was far from normal.

A.1.c. The condition is not well known, in part because many synesthetesfear ridicule for their unusual ability.

Transition: Now that Ive discussed the nature of this condition, I will discuss the symptoms that someone experiencing synesthesia might come across.

    B. The exact causes of synesthesia are unknown. However, scientists havegathered further information about this neurological phenomenon over theyears.

There are many signs that indicate a person could be a synesthete.

1.a. Being neurologically normal - many synesthetes are of aboveaverage intelligence.

1.b. Being left-handed - the majority of synesthetes are left-handed.

1.c. Chances of becoming a synesthete increase if you have a relativewho suffers from synesthesia as well.

1.d. Other common traits are having a preference for order andneatness.

1.e. Going into a career field where creativity is demanded couldalso mean experiencing synesthesia.

  • C. Many variations of this rare condition exist.

    1. For example...

1.a. Grapheme-Color Synesthesia - This is the most common type of synesthesia. A person with this type of synesthesia will associate different colors with different letters and numbers.

1.b. Sound-to-Color Synesthesia - A person with this type of condition will see geometric shapes and/or colors when listening to sounds.

1.c. Number Form Synesthesia - With this form of synesthesia, any time the person thinks of numbers, they automatically make up a number map in their mind.

    III. Conclusion

    A. Review of Main Points:

A.1. Today I first discussed the nature of synesthesia.

A.2. Second, I discussed the symptoms related to this condition.

A.3. Finally, I discussed some of its variations.

    B. Restate Thesis:

From sound-color to number-form synesthesia, this neurological phenomenon remains an interesting topic to many doctors around the world.remains one of the most famous tragedies in history.

    C. Closure:

In conclusion, synesthesia is a rare phenomenon that isstill being studied today. No matter how odd it may seem, syntheses are as normal as any other citizens of the United States of America.
