Our Commitment to The Environment In2007,throughourvariousproductstewardshipprograms,wehaveeliminatedorrecycledmorethan4,000tonnesofcardboard,plasticandmetal,inadditiontoapproximately13millionpoundsofleadacidbatteries. Canadian Tire strives to reduce our environmental impact, conserve resources and help our customers and employees reduce their environmental impact by providing them with ideas, options, information and solutions. As we move forward with our sustainability efforts, we have identified four specific initiatives we plan to focus on for the immediate future: we want to develop more green products and services for our customers; we want to use less energy and cleaner sources of energy across our operations and store networks; we want to reduce the amount of waste we generate and send to landfill; and, we want to use better and more recyclable packaging, but less of it, as we transport products around the globe and into consumers' hands.These initiatives reflect our commitment to continuous improvement of our environmental performance by promoting product stewardship initiatives and by reducing our operational environmental footprint. In addition, we will be responsive to stakeholder concerns about environmental issues associated with our business, and we will educate employees and others engaged on our behalf about their responsibilities to protect the environment while carrying out their duties. Canadian Tire has a comprehensive environmental management program in place to co-ordinate the environmental policies, systems and programs across our organization – including our ongoing compliance auditing program. This information is reported to the Board of Directors on a quarterly basis.

Outdoor Living plans to broaden the tracking and external reporting of our efforts so that we may continue to earn the trust of Canadians. We are currently participating in the Carbon Disclosure Project, which is an international effort to assist organizations in the tracking and managing of their greenhouse gas emissions and overall climate change strategies.
