What are the qualities are needed ?
Democracy is preferred over dictatorship because
Promotes equality among citizensEnhances the dignity of the individualImproves the quality of decision-makingProvides a method to resolve conflictsAllows room to correct mistakes
We blame democracy,isn’t it ?It has many limitation . Then which one is best ?
If some of our expectations are not met, we start blaming the idea of democracy.
Accountable,
responsive & legitimate
government
Decision making is slow in democracy
But perhaps it may worth.
Accountable
Citizen has right to choose their rulers.
They have control over them.
Citizen are able to participate in decision making.
Responsive
Government care the opinion of people.
Legitimate Elected by people through election.
They work in accordance the constitution.
conforming to the law or to rules.
Economic growth and developmentIf democracies are expected to produce good governments, then is it not fair to expect that they would also produce development?
If you consider all democracies and all dictatorships for the fifty years between 1950 and 2000, dictatorships have slightly higher rate of economic growth.
Economic development depends on several factors:
★Country’s population size,
★Global situation
★Cooperation from other countries,
★Economic priorities adopted by the country, etc.When we find such significant difference in the rates of economic growth between countries under dictatorship and democracy, it is better to prefer democracy as it has several other positive outcomes.
Reduction of inequality and povertyDemocracies are based on political equality.
All individuals have equal weight in electing representatives
Accommodation of social diversityDo democracies lead to peaceful and harmonious life among citizens?
No society can fully and permanently resolve conflicts among different groups. But we can certainly learn to respect these differences and we can also evolve mechanisms to negotiate the differences.
Dignity and freedom of the citizensDemocracy is form of government which promotes dignity and freedom of the individual
Passion for respect and freedom are the basis of democracy
Most societies across the world were historically male dominated, long struggle have created some sensitivity todayequal representation is needed for a democratic society
Democracy in india has strengthened the claims of disadvantaged and discriminated casted for equal status and oppertunity
