Tel Aviv Center for Environmental ActionFor the last ten years, the Tel Aviv Center for Environmental Action within The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) has been leading community environmental activities which connect both social and environmental justice. SPNIs strategy aims at creating cooperation with activists and local community leaders able to develop and advance a broad spread of topics, so as to together forge a healthy and pleasant city in which to live.

The Metropolitan Council WatchSPNI's Council Watch aims to promote municipal activities relating to environmental protection and the quality of life, both in each town and throughout the Tel Aviv area. At the metropolitan level, Council Watch team activities focus on three main areas: increasing transparency and public involvement in local government bodies whether in the city council, local committees for planning and building, or municipal finance and additional committees; pressing demands for involvement and public participation in the preparation of municipal master plans; and bringing public pressure to bear regarding regional cooperation on environmental issues. The Metropolitan Council Watch, representing activists from large towns within the Tel Aviv region, fulfils an important role in applying pressure on mayors and on their central administrations to promote those environmental issues which cross municipal boundaries. The Metropolitan Council Watch makes use of lobbying, the media and the public, to engage with mayors, municipal office-holders, local and regional planning committee members, as well as Knesset Members, heads of Knesset committees, and ministers.
