Dear Colleagues,
It is with a great honor that we welcome delegates to the 7th International Conference on Urban
Pests (7th ICUP).
For the first time in Latin America, we chose Ouro Preto, Brazil, a World Cultural Heritage for the
venue.
Ouro Preto is one of the most ancient Brazilian cities and delegates will have a great opportunity
to know some of our history. The colonial architecture of the old buildings portraits how life was lived in the
1700´s, 200 years after the discovery of Brazil.
In the middle of beautiful mountains in the state of Minas Gerais, the known Brazilian hospitality
and typical cuisine will welcome each one of you.
The Local Organizing Committee brought to the 7th ICUP topics of global interest such as legis-
lation, alternative techniques to urban pest management, bed bugs, and discussion on the future of urban
pest research. Also vector borne diseases, spiders, scorpions and bats will have their place in the 7th ICUP.
South American delegates came to Ouro Preto to meet those who have followed the Conference
wherever it goes around the world. I wish all of you a great Conference and when you get back to your
homes you think it was worth coming to Brazil.
Yours sincerely,
Ana Eugênia de Carvalho CamposChairperson, Organizing Committee
