A Note From RyanAs you are well aware, we are born with five senses, sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Each of these are important, and if one is taken away we miss it greatly. I’ve been thinking a lot about the sense of touch lately due to the precautions we have all been taking to be sure we aren’t sharing a virus with one another by keeping our hands and all surfaces clean. The truth is that we are now at a point in history when some have a real fear of offering another person a simple handshake, but our Father does not want us to be captive of fear. So, with that in mind, let's take a little closer look at the power of touch.

The power of human contact is not something that is so easily put into words. Many studies have been done to show just how important it is for newborn infants to be held by their mothers as soon as possible. There is a lot of comfort that is found in that, as well as bonding that is important to their balanced development early on in life. As we are growing and collect our various bumps and bruises we want that comfort from a parent (typically mom again), there is no Band-aid that works quite as well. Even as adults we occasionally crave that hug, handshake, or even an actual pat on the back to pick up our spirits. We just can’t overlook the good that kind of interaction can bring. There is just something undeniably calming or healing that can come from it.

The sense of touch is referenced all through the Bible. In many places there are things in which we are directed to have no contact with, but in others we are told to greet one another with a kiss (1 Corinthians 16:20, 1 Thessalonians 5:14, 1 Peter 5:14). I am in no way suggesting we follow suit, I’m simply making a point that there is a whole spectrum of things that are mentioned in regards to physical contact.

There were many points in the ministry of Jesus when He used touch to a powerful effect. We can see two such instances in Luke. Luke chapter 5 verses 12-16 is the account of a man with a serious skin disease who is healed when Jesus touches him. Imagine how that man felt when Jesus reached out His hand to touch him. This is a man with such a serious illness that he would have others flee before him on a regular basis, and all of a sudden he had just been made clean in an instant by the power of the Lord. Later, in Luke 18 verses 15-17 there were people who brought their children just for Jesus to touch, and then Jesus parlayed that into an immensely important message about the kind of faith that it takes to enter into the kingdom of God.

We have been created with the sense of touch for a reason, and it is important for us to use it in a way that honors God. Though I understand there is a current need to be cautious and limit physical contact with one another due to the situation we find ourselves in with the virus, I don’t believe that it would be a good thing for us to avoid a handshake or a hug forever, as some have suggested. There will be a time (hopefully soon) when we can begin to relax into a more familiar way of living. Until then we may just have to be a little more creative in finding ways to connect with others.

- Ryan

Mission Updates – Notes from MissionariesThe following are letters from some of our supported missions:

MSCC – Hello! Thank you for your generous support of the ARK! You are one of our top churches that gives financially and we can’t say thank you enough. Your giving helped provide a Christ-Centered camp experience for over 1,000 students to hear the gospel last summer. Many more people visited through guest retreats & school field trips. Thank you again for your partnership in ministry – Amanda & the Ark Staff

MSCC- Working daily at the Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) during the covid-19 crisis reminds us of how faithful God is. And as we continue to give patients pregnancy tests, ultrasound scans, and virtual H.O.P.E. (parenting) classes sent to their phones, we are reminded of how faithful you are too, and how you reflect Christ in your giving and prayers for the PRC. Sincerely, Suzanne, assistant director.

MSCC- We hope that this note finds you well and in good spirits! During this time, we want you to know that we are praying for your pastor, leadership teams, and congregation. We have been so encouraged to see the Church leading the way in meeting the needs of the most vulnerable in local communities and around the world. Please let us know if there are any specific prayer requests or needs that we can help with. Thank you for Shining the Light and Hope of Jesus during this time! Matthew 5:13-16 Sincerely, One 17 Team

Please pray for the ARK as they pray and seek wisdom on options and strategies of how to do camp in the middle of this pandemic. Continue to pray for PRC as they amazingly touch women and help save the lives of unborn children. Pray also for our missions in foreign fields where our contributions support schools, orphanages, churches, meals and/or medical support for students. Pray for those missionaries that may still be traveling in this environment and/or living on foreign soil. Pray locally that our donations to the Russiaville food pantry help provide the much-needed relief to those in need within our home town.

God hears our prayers; let’s not forget to pray them. And to focus time in our prayers on the missions we support financially. Your prayers make a difference!

In God’s Service, Carol Talbert, Mission Team Leader
