There has been on exhib it at thelibrary this week a f lowe ri ngb ra nch o f t he Engl ish ivy. Repea ted quest ions have fa il ed t oreveal anyone who has seen thef lowering form of ivy befor e andt he re h as been 'considerable interest shown in i t.

It has been frequent ly statedthat the ivy seldom, if ever, flowers because the f lowering form isso rare. However, there are con(litions under whi ch i t is alwayscertain to send out blossoms. Anivy does not bloom when in theprocess of climbing a wall or atower, but when i t ,has reached thesummit a nd c an no longer climbit sends out horizontal branches.

In time these branches may ceaset o produce the f ee t b y which theivy climbs and changing i ts l ea fform somewhat sends out a tertllinal cluster of flowers. This condition has been met

apiJarently in an ivy growing ove ra rockery in a Narberth garden, where th e vine, spread out horizon ta lly in ful l sun ligh t, has produced two terminal clusters.
