OUR SENIOR CENTER
REMAINS CLOSED
UNTIL FURTHER
NOTICE.
The need for social distanc-
ing has caused the cancela-
tion of all classes, member-
ship events, and group activ-
ities such as BINGO and
ROVERs trips. The need for
social distancing has also
given us an opportunity to
try sending the newsletter
via email since preparing a
print version is not current-
ly possible.
This April electronic edition
features the photo spread
originally planned, but is
missing the usual monthly
calendar section(s).

WELCOME NEW CO-EDITOR CYNDE DONNELLY
To have an item considered for publication, please contact either Cynde or Sandra. The submission of all ads will con-tinue to be handled by Brady Lock.
Thank you Jim Howard for
suggesting the addition of page
numbers to our newsletter. We
will also try to note the day of
the week on the front page
“Save the Date” section when
that feature resumes..
Happy April,
The flowers are beginning to bloom and it looks like spring is just around the corner! The rain we have been receiving is wonderful to see. Hope you are enjoying!
“Wash your hands”; “Cover your cough/sneeze”; “Maintain social dis-tancing”; “Stay home”… have been some of the important words we have been asked to live by for the last few weeks. It is hoped that this will keep us safe and germ free. Keep up the good work and stay healthy!!!!
We hope to get back to our normal schedules and routines soon. We will keep you posted!
Thanks everyone!
— Bev
Thank you Rob Livick—Morro Bay Public Works
Since the Community Center opened in 1989, the only Senior Center sign
appeared on a short, hardscape wall that wasn’t visible from the street. After
years of trying to tell callers how to find us, the City has placed us on their
new street front sign! The new V-shaped sign bearing “Active Adults 55+” is
legible from both directions on Kennedy Way and from directly across on
Piney Way.
Thank you Kirk Carmichael for championing this request.

Curried Shrimp & Carrot Bouilla-
baisse
Serving size 4 and cooking time 30
minutes
Ingredients:
2 Tbs. olive oil
2 pounds shelled and deveined large
shrimp
2-1/2 Tsp. curry powder
1 Tbs. unsalted butter
1 Large shallot chopped
1 Large garlic clove chopped
1 lb. medium carrots, peeled and
sliced on the diagonal ¼” thick
2 Tsp. caraway seeds
2 Tsp. coriander seeds
2 Tsp. mustard seeds
1 Bay leaf
½ cup dry white wine
2 cups fresh carrot juice
1 Tbs. chopped Cilantro (optional)
How to make this recipe:
In a large skillet, heat 1 table-
spoon of the oil until shimmering.
Add the shrimp, season with salt,
pepper and 1-1/2 tsp. of the curry
and cook over moderately high
heat for 3 minutes, stirring.
Transfer the shrimp to a bowl set
aside.
In the same skillet, melt the but-
ter in the remaining 1 tablespoon
of olive oil over moderate low
heat. Add the shallot, garlic and
the remaining 1 tsp. of curry; cook
for 3 minutes. Increase the heat
to moderate, add the carrots and
cook, stirring occasionally, until
they begin to soften, about 5
minutes.
Wrap the caraway, coriander,
mustard seeds and bay leaf in
cheese cloth and add to the pan.
Add the wine and simmer, scrap-
ing up any browned bits, until
reduced in half, 2 minutes. Add
the carrot juice, cover and simmer
until the carrots are tender, 10
minutes. Return the shrimp to
the skillet; simmer for 2 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper. Dis-
card the spices. Transfer to warm
bowls, garnish with cilantro and
serve along with warm baguettes
and mixed green salad
w/champagne dressing.

JEWELRY
If you’re looking for reasonably priced jewelry, check out our
lobby display case. All items are priced at only $1.00
Please also remember your Senior/Active Adult Center when you
have jewelry you’re no longer wearing. Your donated jewelry is
one of the ways we make funds that offset the expenses of our
monthly membership dinners, ROVERS trips, and special activi-
ties such as Christmas wreath making.
AFTER OUR FACILITY REOPENS, please drop off donated
jewelry at the Senior/Active Adults Center Office during our
normal office hours. The more inventory we have, the more funds
we raise for our Senior/Active Adults Center!

Dear members,
The free lending library in the Lounge is getting figuratively stuffed. After our facility reopens and until further notice, there is only space for donations of books that are like new or in very good condition, and that are: 1) best sellers, 2) extremely popular topics of science fiction or mainstream real science topics, 3) new bios of popular celebs or real life heroes, 4) Westerns, 5) Classics that likely interest those over age 55, and 6) current (no more than 3 months old) magazines.

Thank you for taking time to better prepare yourselves to be self-reliant and to help others in
your community.
What an experience!
On March 5, we undertook a twelve hour, round trip journey
from Morro Bay to the Brea, California offices of ViewSonic.
While there, we explored first-hand, several options to poten-
tially equip the Senior Center/Community Center common
areas with touch screens to provide users with immediate in-
formation on classes, activities, ROVERS trips, upcoming
events, housing needs, legal help, transportation, medical ser-
vices, emergency planning, counseling, and other topics of im-
portance to those age 55+.

I have decided that adding some lemonade to my daily diet would be a positive way to increase
my vitamin C. Unfortunately, a pitcher of lemonade is mostly water and takes up too much
space in my refrigerator. I found a recipe for a single glass and it works great. I just squeeze
some lemons and keep the juice in a small jar in the refrigerator. The juice can then be used for
other recipes too.
Ingredients: 1/4 cup hot water ... 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (I use stevia/Truvia to save calo-
ries) ... 3/4 cup cold water ... 3 to 4 tablespoons FRESH lemon juice ... Lots of ice!
Directions: In a large cup, stir the hot water and sugar together until dissolved. For lemons that are more tart, you may
need to add a little more sugar. Add in cold water and lemon juice, then mix. Top with ice!

2020 AARP Tax-Aide Update
Although the tax filing deadline has been extended to July 15 this year, AARP Tax-Aide reports that it has closed for
the season with absolutely no speculation on when it might be back up in our area, or across the country. Area Coordi-
nator, Mike Cussen reports that they were well on their way to a banner year, projecting to file about 3500 tax returns
in SLO County, from Nipomo to Paso Robles.
If you are still seeking tax help, Central Coast Tax-Aide at ccfreetax.org has on it’s website the link to printing the
forms for extension if needed. Note that extensions are unnecessary unless the taxpayer owes tax. If unsure, Mike ad-
vises to get the extension. See the website for more information.
SPECIAL OFFER
50% DISCOUNT FROM H & R BLOCK
Did AARP Tax-Aide prepare your 2019 tax return? Do you still need to have your 2020 return prepared?

The Rovers team has suspended our trips for Spring 2020. Public health experts emphasize that we must do what is in
our power to limit the spread of COVID-19 to protect vulnerable populations at home and around the world. This delay
of trips will allow the Rovers to stay strong and ensure we can reinstate our travels when it is safe to do so. We came to
this decision after careful deliberation with our Board of Directors as well as guidelines from the CDC and city govern-
ment. Morro Bay’s City website carries excellent and timely information.
Our Rovers travel group has always been supportive of one another as well as a bridge to friendship. Our leading value
is to provide trips that are fun and educational. During this time, building connections across our community is
more important than ever. Over the coming days and weeks, we will look for ways to be of service and continue our
connectivity. Many of us who travel frequently have been changing our immediate travel plans, which can be unset-
tling.
Rovers-We know you all are a creative and fun group so we can come up with substitute on-line activities that we can
share together. Our Rovers email list is 100 strong! Does anyone know of Netflix travel programs? Who wants to
share fun photos of past trips? This is a great time to adapt, share & be creative. How about silly travel stories? Send
me your ideas by email to: [email protected]
Refunds-No checks will be cashed that were paid for the Sensorio Lights and/or Piedras Las Blancas Light House.
Checks are safely held in the safe at MBAA and can be used for future trips or returned to you when the Senior Center
reopens. If you paid with cash, let me know and I’ll arrange for your prompt refund.
Our Rovers team hopes that you and your families remain safe and healthy. We thank you for your continued support
of the Rovers at MBAA. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out at any time.
My best,
Meredith, Rovers Coordinator
