Harmony Day
On Monday Greenwich Public School celebrated Harmony Day. Students at both campuses dressed up in a
‘splash’ of orange in support of the theme for 2016, Our Diversity is Our Strength and Everyone Belongs. Teachers
lead discussions focused on inclusivity and respect and students took part in a variety of hands on activities.
Kindergarten made paddle-pop people and assembled them around a world Harmony Day poster. Year 1 and 2
students made paper doll chains or orange handprints to be assembled into a dove display. Years 3 and 4 made
badges to wear or completed crosswords. Senior students made ‘click clacks’.
Principal Position
The process for the appointment of a Principal at Greenwich Public School via merit selection will continue into
Term 2. The School Education Director, a principal from another school, a teacher representative from Greenwich
Public School and a representative from the P&C and School Council are involved in this process.
Regional Swimming Carnival
Five Greenwich Public School students
represented both our school and the North
Shore Zone at the PSSA Regional Swimming
carnival last Wednesday. Samantha H, Jordon
M, Lewis P, Hannah M and Lucinda W all swam
competitively at Sydney Olympic Aquatic
Centre and should be congratulated on their
efforts. We wish Samantha H all the best as she
competes in the NSW State Swimming Carnival on 6 April.

Ethics Kindergarten has begun
The Kindergarten Ethics program has begun this week.
Primary Ethics is still seeking volunteers to train and deliver lessons to our Year 1 students. Ethics teachers receive
full training by Primary Ethics, which consists of a two day workshop and short outline modules. Working with
Children Check procedures are undertaken. The process takes 3-4 weeks. Curriculum and access to teaching
resources is provided. Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and developing their critical
thinking skills and must be available each Tuesday 9:30-10am.
If you are interested in training as an Ethics teacher, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au and/or contact
Sharlene Henderson (Ethics Coordinator) on 0479 183 092 or [email protected] for further details.
Recognition Assembly
Friday 1 April
Kindergarten and Year 1 students to begin the day at Kingslangley Road Campus.
The K-6 Recognition Assembly is a student welfare committee initiative started in 2009. It is a special K-6
assembly held at the end of Terms One, Two and Three where students in K-6 classes are acknowledged for
effort, application, improvement or excellence in a particular aspect of their learning or social development.
Recognition Assemblies give our school community the opportunity to positively reinforce a wide range of
students and share their success as a K-6 school. The Recognition Assemblies do not replace the end of year K-6
Presentation Assembly.
For Term 1 selected students will be recognised in English, Maths and General Awards. Students who have
reached the ‘Gold Award’ in our Positive Behaviour Engaging Learning (PBEL) program will be presented with their
award.
Due to limited space in the hall we can only invite parents of students receiving an award to the Recognition
Assemblies. Parents of students receiving an award on Friday 1 April will be contacted by the school.

amusement park eggs, athletic eggs, academic eggs, balancing eggs, eggs constructions that move… See Akira D’s
SRC report on this great activity.
Easter Eggs and Easter Break
As a timely reminder to support our Nutrition Policy and in consideration for students with allergies, please do

EGGSTRAVAGANZA
Thank you very much to everyone who
entered this year’s Easter Eggstravaganza. We
were very impressed with the variety of ideas
which included eggs on the moon, eggs in a
theme park and eggs even in a theatre.
The whole school enjoyed the creativity of
the exhibits. Everyone who entered will
receive a certificate.

Schoolhouse Museum excursion Years 1 and 2
Last Thursday 17 and Friday 18 March, Year 1 and 2 went to visit
the Schoolhouse Museum in North Ryde. The students stepped
back in time into 1877 classrooms. The students took part in re-
enacting reading, writing and arithmetic lessons. They were given
opportunities to examine objects from the past and participate in
outdoor activities such as maypole dancing. Despite the weather,
Stage 1 all had a great experience and a wonderful day was had
by all.

The NSTA school championship was a very exciting evening on Saturday
night. GPS entered two teams of 6 players each. We played other public
and private schools. Two of our pairs Toby L & Jessie H and Jack P & Peter J
were finalists in their divisions. This was a fabulous result from a very small
team!
Captains of Team 1, Obi T and Michael J and Captains of Team 2, Jack P and Peter J would like to thank their teams and congratulate them for playing so confidently on the night. They would like to acknowledge the wonderful
team spirit from Greenwich. The GPS team stood out on the night for their sportsmanship from each and every player. Our youngest players were 6 and 7 year olds Chloe P and Sofia A and they put up a very brave fight against some 10 and 11 year old boys! It was also great to see how talented GPS is within the region. Well done and Go Greenwich!
