... 2019 PARENT REPORTS - What is the same, what is different? This year we have modified our reports so there are less descriptors of learning in the Key Learning Areas of English, and also in mathematics. After feedback from parents and teachers we decided to make this change. It provides more flexibility in our programming at school, and maintains enough detail to specifically target how students respond to particular content. This change means you will see the same descriptors (or what are known as Outcomes in our syllabus documents) across a two year period (except for Kindergarten).
It needs to be noted that our end of semester reports are what we call ‘point in time’ assessments of student learning. That means we report about your child’s response to the learning opportunities provided in class at designated points in time, as directed by the expectations of the syllabus documents (e.g. English, mathematics, science and technology etc.). Even though the outcome teachers are addressing is the same across the two years, the level of difficulty changes as students address more and more complex information and use more sophisticated skills. The outcomes in the example are in a Year 1 report but are written for what is expected of most students at the very end of Stage 1, i.e at the end of Year 2. It may be that a student demonstrates a High understanding of content in one outcome across all four reporting periods of that outcome (ie. Semester 1 2019, Semester 2 2019, Semester 1 2020 and Semester 2 2020). It is also possible that they demonstrate a High understanding of content in that outcome in Semester 1 2019 and a Sound understanding of that same outcome in Semester 1 2020. There may be many reasons for this, and it is not necessarily a concerning result. If it was, your teacher would be in contact with you.
C O N N E C T | Week 8 - Term 2 3
The comment sections of our reports in English, mathematics and the general section will remain the same. They are designed to give you more detail about how your student is working across subject areas as well as important key skills like working with others, and their work habits.
If you have any questions about the new report format, please contact us.

From Week 1 in Term 3 all students in K-6 are invited to participate in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge. Elanora Heights have participated in this program for a number of years, earning valuable sporting equipment for our school.
During the 10 week challenge, students participate in a broad range of sports and recreational pursuits to develop their understanding of the importance of sport and physical activity. Activities may include time spent in various sports during lunchtime, in-school sport programs, class time, before or after school and on weekends. Any daily physical activity which is moderate to vigorous in intensity can be accrued. The students record and track their physical activity as they aim to be more active, more often.
Award Daily Activity TimeBronze: 30 minutes per daySilver: 45 minutes per dayGold: 60 minutes per dayDiamond: 80 minutes per day
K-2 students do not receive log books for record keeping. Their participation will be tracked each week in class on the e-Wall chart, by Year 6 House Captains, in conjunction with class teachers. This provides a visual record of weekly physical activity and an opportunity to discuss with students the benefits of being active daily and establishing healthy habits. K-2 students receive a Gold award at the end of the Challenge.

When your child hands in their 20 mini merits, please make sure thatthe mini merit on top has your child’s
first name and surname on it as it makes it very difficultwhen we have many children with the same first name and not one of the
20 mini merits has a surname on it.There may be occasions when we may not be able to work out who the child is
and won’t be able to issue the bronze award till your child comes looking for theirs.
