• Charitable society founded in 1993
• Registered under
Bombay Public Trust Act and Societies Act
• Ecumenical Sangam is completely independent
of any other organization or denomination
• The society’s “Base Centre” of 15 acres is situated near Bamhani village
• It is 36 km in south of Nagpur
• Next to NH 7 (Chandrapur Road)
• Presently 45 villages around Bamhani are covered by Sangam’s Team
• Slum Development Work: in 10 of the slums in Nagpur City

Village Health and
Social Work (I)
• Mamta Hospital was built in 2001
• Base Centre for Health Activities
(e.g. Diagnostic & Check-up Camps, Awareness raising on nutrition,
hygiene, Mother-Child-Health etc.)

• VHSW Course for girls from the villages
• Six-month training on basic medical topics
and social issues with 1.5 month ínternship
• VHSW do home visits and are considered
to do the first health service in their villages

• Home visits whenever required
• Awareness raising events for villagers on a regular basis
• Counselling on health-related matters and difficult subjects like
poverty, alcoholism and unemployment
• Providing basic health care and medication
• Check-ups for pregnant women and newborns (Mother-Child-Health)
• Mamta Hospital as “base” for long-term relationship to its VHSWs
• Monthly visits of the Base Centre Health Team in the VHSW’s village
• Refresher courses for sharing experiences and enhancing skills every
two months
• Providing medication to fill up the medicine stock of the VHSWs
• Paying a monthly salary

Sewing and
Tailoring Classes
• Since 1995 every year for up to 50 young
women are trained in all Sangam Centres
• Receiving Government Certificate helps
women to get self-employed and financially-
independent

Technical School
• Founded in 2004 for up to 20 students per course
• Students receive government recognized certificate
• Courses in:
• Electric House Wiring
• Two-Wheeler Repair Course

Microfinance
• Started in July 2008 at Base Centre
• Sangam provides “refundable financial aid“ to
its former technical and sewing class students
• It is meant to be used for start-ups of small
businesses such as tailoring shops or repairing businesses
• Sangam assists in financial matters, especially during the first stages of new business which might be a struggling time
• Often for villagers or slum dwellers
no possibility to get credits
• People cannot start an own small
business due to the lack of capital
• The applicants have to attend
obligatory trainings about basic
business-related topics

Kindergarten (I)
Base Centre Bamhani:
• Two kindergarten classes for 50 children from the surrounding villages
• Aged between 3-5 years
• Opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.
• Pick-up and drop-off service
• For a small monthly fee

Sericulture Project
• The Sericulture Project started in 2002
• Sangam’s Sericulture Project aims at stabilising
the income of small farmers by:
Serving as training centre for silk farming
Offering free demonstrations and trainings
Improving the farmers’ crop

Agriculture Project
• Built up to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture
while the general use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers
increased
• Improving the livelihoods of farmers and stabilizing their

TCS Employability
Training
• In January 2013 Sangam starts the Employability Training Programme in cooperation with Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai
• It is particularly adapted to youth villagers belonging to rural and economically weaker sections
• Training boosts the level of self-confidence of facing job interviews,
improves communication skills and enhances computer & internet skills
• After completion they will gain better chances of getting jobs in TCS
Business Process Outsourcing as well as in other corporate companies
• Their potential remains untapped
due to economic & social
hindrances as well as deprived
further studies or good jobs

Counselling Cell
• Established in 2006 and located at Butibori police station
• Cases of domestic violence are directly referred from the police
station to the Counselling Cell
• Aim: find a solution for the problem with the help of the
counsellor in a consensual manner

Leprosy Elimination
Action Programme (I)
• Established in 2007
• Since 2008-09 Sangam has the responsibility to function as the lead
NGO partner for LEAP in Nagpur
• Close cooperation with communities and ALERT India
• Our aim is to create awareness and to inform about Leprosy

• Organization of seminars to sensitize medical & paramedical students
• Network with renowned skin & treatment specialists to guide students
in social & clinical treatment and rehabilitation of Leprosy patients
• From 2007 till today about 4000 participants in more than 95 seminars

SSD – Selective Special Drive
• Sangam trains Project Health Assistants (PHAs) for holding leprosy
awareness raising events in slums, schools and other public locations
• People are encouraged to take responsibility for their health
• Sangam is the leading NGO to implement SSD interventions by
inducting 16 local NGO partner organizations in Nagpur, Amravati,
Wardha and Bhandara districts
