INSTITUTE OVERVIEW
The Ethics and Capacity Development Institute is a Non-profit organization and consultancy
firm established on 26th 04 2017under the registration number PVT-4Q7UGG.ECDI is
committed to enhancing the ability and efficiency of organizations towards fortifying
organizational procedures and systems. The Institute‟s services range across a variety of fields
such as affirmative action, budgetary control, resource management, codes of conduct, conflict
management and risk assessment among others.
In line with its mandate towards ensuring sustainable approaches for organizational
development, ECDI offers an array of certification programs centered on the realization of the
ethics function within institutions. The Institute moreover conducts relevant research and
surveys regionally with a strategic base in Nairobi, Kenya.
Expert services are rendered by savant professionals drawn from a colossal category of
disciplines namely; risk management, finance and auditing, human resource management, law,
procurement and public relations. The team of consultants echoes a concrete field of
knowledge and profound understanding of system auspices within the spectrum of quality
improvement and organizational change. Under the patronage of a Chief Executive Officer and
capable technical team, ECDI is a uniquely situated entity providing a combination of
competitively priced, value driven and regionally focused technical assistance cognizant of
current organizational needs.

ECDI is governed by a Board of Directors composed of five (5) members and the Chief
Executive Officer (CEO). It is a 100% privately owned company.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
Tobias OyandaOtieno– Chairman
Mr. Otieno is the Director and Principal Consultant at
Economatics Consultants Ltd., which is based in Nairobi and
provides services founded on Business; Economics; Financial and
Management services; Agriculture/Agribusiness; Energy and
Infrastructure; Education and Training services. He also holds
various consultant positions among numerous entities both
national and internationally. Mr. Otieno has earned a Master of
Arts in (Public Admin.) 1984; and a Bachelor of Science (Business
Administration) both from California State University, Hayward,
and (USA).
Mr. Nicholas Ochieng’ Odhiambo – Director
Nicholas is currently employed by the Pride Inn Hotels and
Investments Group as the Group Human Resource Manager. He
has accrued over 5 year‟s broad-based experience in human
resources management, training & development. Prior to his
current position, Nicholas worked with CFC Stanbic Bank as Sales
Agent, and at Nila Pharmaceuticals as assistant Human Resource
Manager. Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Philosophy from Urbaniana
University Rome, Bachelor of Social Arts Theology (honors)
degrees from Catholic University of Eastern Africa and Master of Business Administration
(MBA) from Catholic University of Eastern Africa. He is moreover an active member of
Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
Dr. Sandy Banda – Director
He is currently the Chief Finance officer East Southern Africa
Management Institute(ESAMI). He has more than 20 years of
experience in consultancy with regard to public Finance and
administration. He is a member of ACCA. Has worked with several

governments in streamlining their operation particularly in Finance and administration.
Dr. Obudho Omondi – Director
He is the Deputy Director in charge of TIVET Division. He holds a
PhD in Building Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy; Master
of Philosophy in Technology Education (Building Construction
Option), and Bachelor of Education (Technology) both from Moi
University. He is a lead expert with National Environmental
Management Authority (NEMA) and a member of the
Environmental Institution of Kenya. He is also a Green Star Accredited Professional. Prior to
joining KICD, he served as the Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Technical
university of Mombasa. He has also lectured at Meru College of Technology (Presently Meru
University) in Meru County and was a teacher at Menyenya High School in Nyamira County.
Erick Mang’ese – Chief Executive Officer
Erick Mang‟ese holds a CPA and Bachelor of
Commerce from KCA University. He has
accrued more than 10 years‟ experience in
Teaching, Management and Consultancy on
Financial management with coverage extending
to Kenya and Tanzania. He formerly was the
head of Centre for Cross Cultural services
which was charged with the execution of four
programs namely; mentorship, volunteer,
student exchange program and internship at
The Ethics and Integrity Institute (TEII). Mr
Mang‟ese was involved in policy formulation
and strategic partnership with both private and
public organizations at TEII. Prior to this, he
was the head of Professional Program
Department at Arusha School of Business and
Finance.

Lead Consultants:
Dr. Elijah Achoch
Dr. Achoch is currently a director in the
Ministry of Public Service Gender and
youth.Mr. Achoch‟s expertise is extensive and
includes the full complement of Human
Resource Management and Leadership. Equally
important are his qualifications which include a
Master of Science (MSc) Human Resource. He
is a professional Transformational Leadership
Specialist holding a Doctoral degree (PhD) in
the area of Public Service Transformation. He
is also Certified Ethics Officer from the
Integrity Institute South Africa
He formerly was the Chief Executive Officer
Kenya Police Service Commission. He was also
the Director of Transformative Leadership and
Change Management, in the Office of the
Prime Minister, Mr. Achoch championed reform and transformative leadership, Change
Management, Values and Ethics in Government
reforms initiatives. His duties entailed offering
leadership in visioning and strategic planning in
public service transformation, performance
contracting (PC) Rapid Result Initiatives (RRI).
He is an Adjunct faculty member at the Jomo
Kenyatta University of Agriculture and
Technology (JKUAT) and is involved in
teaching masters and pre-doctoral students in
Organizational Behavior, Performance
Management and Strategic management.
Prof. Halimu Shauri
Prof.Shauri is the Associate Professor,
Department of Social Sciences at Pwani
University in Kenya. He has had more than
20 years‟ experience in social action and
development having held numerous
technical and consulting positions within
social development institutions. He has
worked as a consultant for various donor
funded initiative for example the „End Term
Evaluation on Household Livelihood
Security for “Lok Pachi” Project‟ in Bondo
and Siaya districts” which was funded by
CARE International; A research study on
Health Care Reforms in Kenya supported
by a consortium of Private sponsors; and
the Health Impact Assessment of Kwale
Mineral Sands project which was carried
out in collaboration with SHAPE Consulting
Ltd., from South Africa. Prof. Shauri holds a
PhD in Sociology from Kenyatta University

the University of Nairobi, Kenya (1999);
and a BA in Sociology from Egerton
University, Kenya (1995).
AREAS OF FOCUS:

Affirmative action - Gender and disability mainstreaming.
Socio-moral inclusivity–Given that companies, as a social construct, are affected by societal
concerns, we sensitize institutions on how to address aspects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse,
HIV & AIDS.
Foresight and strategic planning–Our services avail pre-emptive advice on operations through
our curricula on Fraud Detection and Prevention; Corruption Risk Assessment; Public
Finance and Budgetary Control. Our services therefore facilitate the development of
corporate strategic, long and short term plans through a series of advisory initiatives.
Image consulting–Our appreciation for public image have informed our courses on Assembly
Administration, PR & Protocol.
Human Resource development – Areas of interest in this category include; Sargent-at-arms
training, and Strategic Human Capital Development.
Partnership and Cooperation – Coordinated and anchored alliances are necessary for
effective execution of tasks. Our services therefore equip organizations with knowledge on
the frameworks for team work for instance a Conflict Resolution Mechanism.
Legal interpretation–We provide advice on legal approaches towards addressing Delegated
Legislation; Ethics on Procurement; Legislation Drafting, Ethics Mainstreaming, and
Mwongozo Code of Conduct.
Occupational Safety and Health
Research – We undertake research on strategic sectors for instance employee‟s satisfaction
index, job evaluation, competency index survey, skills gap analysis, gender baseline surveys
and safety audits.
Certification Programs – As part of our sustainability approach to services rendered, we offer
certification programs in namely two areas which are Fraud and Risk Management and
Investigations, and Certified Ethics Officers.
Mentorship Program – ECDI‟s Mentorship program strives to invest in young talent by
linking them with renowned persons in respective fields who can offer guidance on both
career and personal development thus ultimately constructing a great nation.
