Time to Let Go and Simply Be
You know how it is, Lord. There is always so much to
be fitted in. People to be seen…work to be
done…obligations to fulfil.
It is so difficult to distinguish between the urgent and
the important. And often what is urgent elbows its
way to the forefront of the day and the important
gets trampled in on the rush.
Teach me the art of creating an island of stillness in
which I can absorb the beauty of everyday things…clouds, trees, a snatch of music.
Prompt me to lift up my heart to you in a moment of thankfulness. Impress on my mind that
there is more to life than packing every moment with activity, and help me to fence in some
part of my day with quietness. Help me listen, so that I take your peace rather than my
confusion back with me to the hurley-burly of a busy world.

Dear Parents and Friends of Our Lady’s School Community,
One of the best parts of being a Principal is experiencing the
excitement of students when they share their learning. This
morning these gorgeous faces paid me a visit.
Oliver, Harry, Finn, Sam and Edward were learning all about
commas!
School Performance
I have sent the Newsletter out to you today as we will all be at the Besen Centre tomorrow for our
final rehearsal. The school office is open as usual.
Congratulations to all our students for working so hard in the preparation of our School Performance tomorrow evening. It really has been a rich term of learning – not only about the creative arts but of teamwork, collaboration, resilience and grit. All the rehearsals have certainly provided the foundation for a successful experience. There are so many people to thank and we will do so formally tomorrow. I do however wish to acknowledge the amazing Belinda Collison and Mr. Will Fogarty for directing the production. Belinda and Will have been ably assisted by a dynamic team; Tania, Ann, Elise, Deb, Clare and Katie. We would also like to thank Amazing Transformations for their generous donations of costumes for the main roles. In the Victorian Curriculum, the Arts includes Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design. In this performance year our students from Foundation to Year 6 have had the opportunity to engage with all the elements of the Arts curriculum. We are all looking forward to tomorrow and showcasing the very impressive talents of our students – whether that be back stage or on the stage. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Besen!
Final reminders - Alice in Wonderland - Friday, August 24th @
7.00pm
● Costumes will be sent home on Thursday afternoon. Please contact the school if your child
is absent on this day to arrange an alternative collection.
● On Friday, 23rd August (tomorrow) the students will be going to the Besen Centre for a
final rehearsal. They are required to wear their sports uniform. Students do not need their
costumes.
● Students are to arrive dressed in their full costumes no earlier than 6.15pm and no later
than 6.30pm- however students in Year 5/6 are required to arrive at 6.00pm to prepare and
have specialised makeup applied.
Leadership and Management: To grow and sustain a professional culture that is characterised by
excellence, shared vision, collaboration, a strong sense of teamwork and a focus on continuous improvement.

● Students are to be dropped off in the foyer of the venue. There will be staff there to direct
you. Please ensure your child is marked as being present.
● Students are asked to bring a clearly labelled water bottle on the evening.
● Please make sure your child has had dinner - they will need lots energy for the performance!
Students are asked not to eat in their costumes and to put costumes on just prior to leaving
home.
● As many of the costumes are borrowed or hired we ask that you remind your child to be
careful when applying makeup.
● Students from Prep to Year 4 will need to return their costumes to school on Monday.
● Students in Years 5 and 6 are to change out of their costumes prior to leaving the venue as
these will be collected by teachers. These students will therefore require clothing to change
into after the performance.
● Due to stage lighting and distance from the audience, it is beneficial for all students to have
a small amount of foundation, blush on their cheeks and a bright colour (Red / Pink) on
their lips. Application of performance make up is at your discretion. No makeup will be
applied at the venue by staff for students in Years Prep to Year 4.
● Students will be able to watch the performance from backstage via large TV monitors. The
students have the choice of watching a video or a live stream of the performance. Teachers
will also have a variety of activities to keep students engaged on the evening.
● At the conclusion of the evening we will ask for the audience to remain seated and the
students, after changing, will be dismissed from the stage. The teachers will arrange
students into family groups and parents will be invited to come up to the stage and collect
their children.
● Parking is available and included in the ticket price.
● There will be security on site throughout the evening to ensure the safety of all patrons.
● The Besen Centre requires us to vacate the venue by 10.00pm, so your prompt departure
would be appreciated.

Oh What a Knight Musical
Attached to this week’s newsletter is a flyer of the musical, Oh What a Knight, production. Two of
our Year 6 students, Benji and Freddie and past student Ella Curry, have been rehearsing for many
months and committed much of their time to this production and it would be wonderful if the
school community had the opportunity to support the boys by coming along to see them perform.
There are three performance times to choose from, including a matinee on Saturday 1st September.
Congratulation’s once again to Amelie
and Eden for representing our school in
the rotary Speech Competition.
These photographs were sent to us from
the Rotary Club and we thought we
would share them in our newsletter this
week.
The competition was of a very high
standard and Amelie should be
congratulated on achieving second place.
Take a look at the criteria the girls were
judged by.
JUDGING CRITERIA
Delivery
Enunciation and pronunciation are basic
to any good speech and must be fully
considered. Overall expressiveness and
sincerity of tone add to the delivery.
Animation, humour, holding interest, and
power of persuasion are attributes of a
winning speaker.
Originality
The manner in which the content is
developed will in large measure be
determined through its originality. Of
major concern will be an approach that is
individualistic, imaginative, and has
human interest.
Content
The content should relate specifically to
the subject. Students should be positive
in their approach, and ideas used to
develop the theme or topic should be
presented logically, clearly, and concisely
from opening to conclusion.

Book Week 2018 – Find Your Treasure “Find Your Treasure” is the theme for this year’s celebration of books and
reading. Our Lady’s will be celebrating Book Week in Week 7 of this term. As in
other years, we will continue with the tradition of holding a Book Week Parade of
Characters on Wednesday, August 29th at approximately 9:30am following
assembly. For those not familiar with the event, the children choose a character
they like from any story/book, put a (simple) costume together and wear it in the
parade on Friday. In the past we have had The Cat in the Hat, Wally (Where’s
Wally?), Little Red Riding Hood, Specky McGee, Bob the Builder, Harry Potter, just to name a few. There is
no need for elaborate costumes, something simple wold be fantastic! You are all welcome to join in the fun
of the parade. Toddlers are also welcome to dress up. Following the book parade, the
children will take part in a variety of multi-age multimedia activities.
Lee Fox: Lee will hold two presentations during her visit to Our Lady’s, for both the
Junior (F-Year 2) and Senior (Year 3-Year 6) students. There will be the option to buy
some of Lee’s books on the day. They range in cost from $5 to $17). If you are
interested in your child purchasing a book, please send money along in an envelope
labelled with your child’s name and class).

Baptism Revisited
On Wednesday evening the students and their families attended a faith formation evening led by Fr Mark and the teachers from Year 1/2 . The purpose of the evening was to explore the links between Baptism and the sacramental program that the students will begin in Year 3. We thank the families that were able to k=join us on the evening. Grandparents and Special Friends Day We warmly welcome you to join us as we celebrate and give thanks for some very important people. On Wednesday, September 19th Our Lady’s School will host Grandparents and Special Friends Morning. We will commence at 9:15am in the Our Lady’s Church for a special prayer service that will be led by our students. Following the liturgy, students will return to their classrooms and Grandparents and Special Friends will share morning tea in the Multi-Purpose Room over at the school. There will be an opportunity for our special visitors to join the students in their classrooms following the morning tea. This will be a wonderful chance to see the great learning that is happening and to join in some fun activities together. We hope you can join us.
Scripture Assemblies/ Liturgies The purpose of these assemblies is for our students to share in their learning of Religious
Education. It is through reading, speaking and listening and the study of history and geography
that students develop an historical understanding of our Catholic identity. It is through prayer
that students develop a personal relationship with God.
