From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners,

This weekend we begin the most solemn time of the Church year, that is, Holy Week. We enter into Holy Week with Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord; the liturgy starts with the Gospel reading of Jesus entering into Jerusalem and the people placing palm branches before their King. We bless the palms and distribute them this day as Jesus reached his destiny, Jerusalem and he entered into His Passion. As we attentively listen to the proclamation of the Lord’s Passion we are reminded of the cruelty of humanity and evil that exists in the hearts of men. We hear of the greatest evil, that is, to put God to death. The reading of the Passion also instills in our hearts the depth of God’s love for us. God the Father, sent his Only Begotten Son to undergo such a painful and horrific death to free us from the grip of the evil one and death. Holy Week is a time for us, not only to reflect on this wonderful mystery but also to enter into it by allowing God’s grace into our hearts. During this holy time of year our Lord is inviting all of us to participate in the liturgies that reveal and help us to enter into the Paschal Mystery. Please make an effort to attend the Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil) Liturgies. After Holy Thursday, The Mass of the Lord’s Supper, the Blessed Sacrament will be placed in the parish hall where we can visit and adore the Lord in prayer until midnight. Spend time with the Lord on this special night, Holy Thursday, and recall Jesus’ agony in the garden where He asked his closest friends to stay awake and pray with Him for at least an hour. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to prepare your soul for this Holy Week through the Healing Sacrament of Reconciliation. Additional times for Reconciliation are listed in the bulletin. Participating in the liturgies of Holy Week helps us to prepare our hearts and souls for the joyful and graced filled celebration of Easter. Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us, Father Ed, Pastor

MY JOURNEY TO CATHOLICISM

I was born and raised in Bergenfield, New Jersey and Baptized in South Presbyterian Church. In 1982, I started attending a Pentecostal Church. I fell way from church but attended

a weekly bible study for about 25 years. About three and a half years ago, I moved to Sussex County. Several months after I moved here, I started looking for a church but couldn’t find one where I felt comfortable. One Sunday, my friend asked if I would like to attend her Church, Our Lady Queen of Peace. I met Father Ed and I started attending Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace every Sunday and kept getting more and more involved with the Parish. Several weeks later, I asked my friend where she went on Monday evenings. She explained to me about Eucharistic Adoration. I attended Adoration the following Monday and I loved it. I love participating in the devotion speaking to the Lord and having quiet time with Him. I found myself spending more and more time at Our Lady Queen of Peace attending Mass and Adoration every week. Then I went to The Stations of the Cross and the Holy Spirit Novena. I began to realize that the Lord was leading me to convert to Catholicism; I was stunned and excited at the same time. In October I began the RCIA Program that is run by parishioner, Barbara Bayles; The Program is so fascinating. I can’t get enough of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, attending Mass on Sunday, Adoration on Monday, Daily Mass on Thursday, as well as the monthly Healing Mass, Stations of the Cross and everything else in the church. I was thrilled when I received ashes for the first time on Ash Wednesday. I love participating in the life of the Church. On Saturday, April 15th at the Easter Vigil, I will be receiving the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation; I’m so excited...I can’t wait. This has been an incredible journey for me and it is not over. After I make my Sacraments, my journey will continue, in fact, it has just begun. Barbara Niclaus

THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY

OF THE FATIMA APPARITIONS

THE FATIMA APPARITIONS

In the year 1917, in a mountainous region at the center of Portugal, the Mother of God appeared six times to three young children.

World War I was threatening to annihilate Europe and it seemed like it would never end. To end the conflict, on May 5th 1917, Pope Benedict XV called for a Novena in honor of Our Lady, the Queen of Peace. On the eighth day of that novena, May 13th 1917, the Blessed Mother responded to the prayers of the Pope and her children, and made her first of six appearances to three children, Lucia Dos Santos, Francisco Marto and his sister Jacinta, who were ten, nine and seven years old respectively at the time. The children were tending their sheep when a flash of bright light caught their attention and settled above a small holm oak tree. Within the light was a Lady dressed in white with a rosary in her hand who said she was from Heaven. She asked the children to meet her at the same spot on the thirteen of the next five consecutive months and to pray the rosary daily for world peace.

Our Lady appeared to these shepherd children on the 13th of every month from May to October of that year. She spoke to them about the destiny of the world, she gave them advice and she entrusted some secrets to them, some have been revealed in time, but some are still unknown to us. Our Lady’s message was one of hope and of strong warnings for the world. It was a call for peace through the salvation of souls.

The Catholic Church recognizes and accepts both the apparitions and the message given. Faith tells us that the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, and our Heavenly Mother, continues to help the human race on its pilgrimage back to God.

In recognition of the 100th anniversary of apparitions of Our lady of Fatima in Portugal, a series of bulletin articles will be presented describing each of these seven supernatural visions.

CONFIRMATION PRACTICE

Confirmation practice will be held on Wednesday evening, April 19th from 6pm to 7pm in the church. Parent/s and sponsors are

requested to be in attendance. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered immediately following the practice. It is highly recommended that all Confirmandi participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
