From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners,

This Friday, January 19th is the 45 Annual March for Life in Washington D.C.. This will be the third year that we have organized a bus trip from our parish for the March. Last year we had 44 people join us on our bus to give witness to the beauty of all human life especially life in the womb of the mother. It is always an awesome experience and very inspiring to walk through the streets of our Capital with hundreds of thousands of people. The majority of those who march are young people that travel from all parts of the country carrying banners and singing songs. There is an excitement and joy that is inherent at this peaceful and safe march. Each time I have attended the March for Life I marvel at the many buildings where our nation’s laws are made and upheld, and the beautiful monuments that give witness to the greatness of our country. The March for Life bus trip in Washington D.C. is not always an easy trip. We have to get up early because the bus leaves at 6:00 am and if you want to attend Mass you have to be in church by 5:30 am. The bus trip is long and the march is often cold and sometimes windy. We usually return at night around 10:00 pm from a long bus trip home and most of us are tired. The March for Life is a sacrifice but one that is so important. The only way that we can change this immoral and unjust law that legalizes abortion in our nation is with prayer and sacrifice. The sacrifice to take a one day bus trip to Washington D.C. is worth it ! I invite you to join us this year on our annual bus trip to March for Life through a day of prayer and sacrifice. If you cannot attend the March then I invite you to unite with us in prayer and perhaps offer a small sacrifice on that day. The day will come when all of us will have to stand before the Lord our Maker and acknowledge that we are sinners who hope in His mercy. It should give us comfort to know that we can say to our Heavenly Father, along with the other hundreds of thousands of people, that we prayed and sacrificed so that His people would come to recognize that all life is sacred especially in the womb of its mother. Please consider joining us in this important one day bus trip on Friday, January 19th to the Capital of our Nation to be united with thousands of marchers giving witness to the sacredness of human life. The fee for adults is only $25 and children are free. I also want to thank the generosity of the Knights of Columbus for sponsoring our bus trip last year and again this year. I hope to see you on the bus. Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us, Father Ed, Pastor

Olivewood Sale Handcrafted from the Holy Land

A Traditional Art & Livelihood for Holy Land Christians

January 13th and 14th in the Parish Hall

The handicrafts trade evolved as a cultural tradition of Christians in the Holy Land for many centuries. This indigenous form of art has since become an industry of great importance to the local people of the Holy Land who rely on it for livelihood, and to Christian pilgrims from all around the world whose holy pilgrimage can be memorialized for a lifetime in cherished olive wood or mother of pearl souvenirs. The olive wood carving market is the major source of income in the Bethlehem area. More than 65 percent of the income of the community in Bethlehem comes from this work. In recent years, however, the holy crafts trade has suffered many hardships due to social and economical pressures. Because of a sharp fall in tourism and also as a result of diminishing numbers of craftsmen who leave their traditional trade and emigrate due to the difficult conditions in their homeland, the Holy Land handicraft market is facing serious danger, and so is the Christian community in the Land. Sixty five years ago the Christians represented more than 28% of the total population in the Holy Land, today they are less than 1.5%.The loss of Christians in the land of Christianity’s birth will represent a tragedy of immeasurable proportions for the billions of Christians worldwide.

Thank you for your vital support for a Christian tradition and in protecting this very important culture and industry.
