June 7, 2020 Holy Trinity Sunday Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I saw an amusing picture on the internet the other day. It showed Doc, the inventor and Marty McFly the hero of the movie Back to the Future. They were next to the car which served as a time machine and “Doc” was saying to Marty, “Whatever you do, don’t set it to 2020!” Now added to the pandemic and financial crisis we have experienced heart-rending scenes of brutality and violence in our communities. In the midst of the unrest we should all remember the simple truth of our faith. The solution and only solution is Repentance and the two great commandments” Love God and Love Your Neighbor.” Think how our world would change if even a fraction of the population truly lived out these three principles! Bishop Guglielmone has issued some new guidelines as we move forward through the summer months. He has said Mass numbers may increase to 50% of a church building’s capacity, but the same social distanc-ing guidelines must be observed and this is to be done at the discretion of the pastor. Our church is not large enough to increase the attendance and still maintain the social distancing that is required. Therefore, in dis-cussion with Fr. Richard I have decided that, for the month of June, we will retain the same system we have had in place during the month of May.

Therefore, if you would like to attend a weekend Mass you need to sign up. Go HERE for a link to the Sign Up Genius site. So that we can process the attendance lists in time, we ask you to sign up by 5:00 pm on the Friday before the weekend you wish to attend. Please note that, as we move forward, more people are beginning to attend the weekend Masses. I am therefore asking you to attend a weekday Mass if you are able rather than the weekend Masses. This will help to spread the numbers out and make things more manageable. Individual confessions and Eucharistic adoration resumed this week. Please read these guidelines to make sure you are attending safely. Sunday, June 14, is the Feast of Cor-pus Christi. On that afternoon a small group will participate in a Corpus Christi proces-sion and service of Benediction and prayer. We will give you more information about this in next week’s update. The parish and school offices are now opening up again with restrictions in place and reduced opening times. During the month of June, both offices will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For the safety of everyone, we ask that as much as possible you conduct all church business remotely (calling or emailing for Mass intentions, questions, etc.). If you do need to visit the office please call in ad-vance to let us know that you are coming, and be sure to observe all appropriate social distancing, hand sanitizing, etc. A secure mailbox has been installed outside the office where you can deposit checks, Mass intention requests, mail, etc. without needing to enter the office itself. Thank you for your patience and support during this difficult time. We are all learning new lessons through the trials we are facing, and I am sure your faith, like mine is being strengthened. Remember if you have any needs, or know of members of our community who are in need you should be in touch with Beth at the parish office and she will refer you to the member of our parish team who can help. The bishop has also given cautious approval for the resumption of parish meetings. If you would like to re-start a home group, fellowship group or Bible study, please consult with Donna Craft ([email protected]) who will advise you on proper dis-tancing and sanitation guidelines.

This Sunday we celebrate the mystery of the Holy and Undivided Trinity. I think folks enjoyed my sharing a link to a hymn last week. Here is another one to help you think about this glorious truth of our faith: The words are the famous St. Patrick’s Breast-plate and are reputed to be by St. Patrick himself. The choir and church are from Ire-land. Go HERE to enjoy! Here is the full text of this wonderful, ancient hymn of praise.

With prayers and best wishes in the Lord, Your Pastor Fr. Longenecker

1 I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity by invocation of the same, the Three in One and One in Three.

2 I bind this day to me forever, by power of faith, Christ’s incarnation, his baptism in the Jordan river, his death on cross for my salvation, his bursting from the spiced tomb, his riding up the heavenly way, his coming at the day of doom, I bind unto myself today.

3 I bind unto myself today the virtues of the starlit heaven, the glorious sun’s life-giving ray, the whiteness of the moon at even, the flashing of the lightning free, the whirling wind’s tempestuous shocks, the stable earth, the deep salt sea around the old eternal rocks.

4 I bind unto myself today the power of God to hold and lead, God’s eye to watch, God’s might to stay, God’s ear to hearken to my need, the wisdom of my God to teach, God’s hand to guide, God’s shield to ward, the word of God to give me speech, God’s heavenly host to be my guard.

5 Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

6 I bind unto myself the name, the strong name of the Trinity by invocation of the same, the Three in One and One in Three, of whom all nature has creation, eternal Father, Spirit, Word. Praise to the Lord of my salvation;

Spiritual Adoption

WEEK 37:

Your baby has really fattened up. He likely weighs between 6 and 7 1/2 pounds now (boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls), and he is probably between 19 and 20 inches long. He has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test with your pinky! His organs are fully developed in place. Baby's heart has been beating for 32 weeks, and he has been breathing for 28 weeks.

MOTHER TERESA HOUSE

“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by 'I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.' Hungry not only for bread - but hungry for love. Naked not only for clothing - but naked of human dignity and respect. Homeless not only for want of a home of bricks - but homeless because of rejection.” – Mother Teresa

Returning to normal. We are still finalizing plans as to when to reopen Mother Teresa House to the public. We have many obstacles or “opportunities to shine”. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society will be opening the food pantry soon so remember to support both groups financially and pick up some extra food to bring to church for our food pantry. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.

Fr. Longenecker has published yet another book! Immortal Combat - Confronting the Heart of Darkness is a pro-found look into what we mean by the phrase “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” What is the “Sin of the World” and how does Jesus’ death change things? In the second half of the book Fr. Longenecker ex-plains how God accomplished his work in a secret way in the world, and how we can participate in that work. Go here to learn more. You can purchase the book through Fr. Longenecker’s website or Amazon, but as usual, Fr. Longenecker is offering copies at a special rate of $15.00 to Our Lady of the Rosary parishioners. If you would like a copy, please pick one up from the Narthex when you come to church and put payment in an envelope in the box when you take your book. If you would like a copy but you are not com-ing to church right now because of the pandemic, please email Donna Craft at [email protected] to make pay-ment and pick up your book.

What is a Spiritual Adoption? To help stop the anti-life push around the world, the late Archbish-op Fulton J. Sheen encouraged the spiritual adop-tion of an unborn child. This is done by praying that the one particular but unknown child’s life be spared abortion and be allowed to continue to live. During the child’s 40 weeks of growth, our bulletin broadcasts the development of each spiritually adopted child.

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION PRAYER Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to save the life of the unborn baby that

I have spiritually adopted, and is in danger of abortion. Mary, our Mother in Heaven, pray for

us, and especially for your little ones in danger of abortion!

This weekend our babies are in their 37th week of gestation. Stay tuned, as we invite you to an up-coming baby shower for those who chose Life for their child!

Massimo Scapin, our organist and choirmaster has accepted a position as Director of Music at the parish of St John Cantius in Chicago. This is a large, inner city parish with an ambitious mu-sic program and a strong commitment to tradi-tional Catholic worship. This is a good step for-ward for a man of Massimo’s huge talent, quali-fications and experience. Massimo’s last week-end at OLR will be June 20-21. We wish him and his family every blessing with thanks for his dedicated service to the worship in our parish during their time with us.

Fr. Richard and I are in discussions with several musicians and will keep you posted about the ways forward for our music program.

We invite you to take the Play and Pray Challenge!

The Play and Pray Challenge is a way for us to spread the kingdom of Jesus Christ into every home in a fun, interac-tive way. If you are going to PRAY with your family, you need to PLAY with them!

From June from the 12-21, we are challenging families to do three things:

1. Organize and execute an amazing FAMILY DAY

2. Plan and go on a DATE NIGHT

3. Proclaim Jesus Christ as the KING OF THE HOME by placing the image of the Sacred Heart in their house and “enthroning” Him as King.

We want to make this a fun and rewarding experience for families, so we have created some resources to help you out. Go to our website HERE to get your Play and Pray Challenge Kit.
