July 5th, 2020 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today we celebrate 14th Sunday in ordinary Time. In our Gospel today Jesus says, “Come to me all you who labor and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.” When you need rest and spiritual advice, choose carefully. Choose God and not someone who is not of God. When you want rest, go the Lord in prayer.

Some people are blaming God for many things even COVID-19 and are angry with God. God does not send us anything bad. God only sends us what is good. If we turn from God because we do not like something or because of any other crisis that comes upon us, to whom will we then

turn? God is the only one who can help us through any situation especially at this pandemic time. WE CANNOT STAY AWAY FROM OUR FAITH AND CHURCH!

The yoke that Jesus cuts for us does not cause discomfort but brings us comfort because the yoke of Jesus is easy and light. The invitation of Jesus to us is not a yoke that weighs us down but is easy and light, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

Open your heart to Jesus. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Open your heart to Jesus and live, as Paul wrote in our second reading, not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit, “…we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

If we do not go to Jesus when we labor and are burdened with life’s problems, to whom or to what do we go? If we do not look for answers to our problems in Jesus we will not find them elsewhere or else just find partial or deluding answers. The answers of the culture of our time are deluding, because the culture of our time falsely tells us we will find happiness in sin. But sin never brings happiness because sin is sin. Therefore the culture of this time wants to lay upon us a yoke that is heavy and painful. The prophecy of Zechariah in our first reading about the king riding on a donkey was fulfilled in Jesus riding into Jerusalem the week before his Passion and death. Zechariah said, “he shall proclaim peace to the nations.” Yes Jesus proclaims peace to

you; will you accept his peace? How can you find his peace? Open your heart to him. Pray to Jesus. Spend time with Jesus in prayer every day to find his peace. Come to Jesus here in the Eucharist. We do not have Jesus in the Eucharist at home or in other churches.

“THERE MUST BE SOMETHING MORE TO LIFE.” “THE LORD MUST HAVE SOME PLAN FOR ME.” YES, LIVE ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT, NOT ACCORDING TO THE FLESH. OPEN YOUR HEART TO JESUS. WALK EVERY DAY YOKED TO THE LORD IN PRAYER AND MEET HIM IN THE EUCHARIST. LISTEN TO HIS INVITATION.

Divine Mercy Devotion –

2nd Friday of the month at 3:00pm - June

10th. Come and see

the goodness of the Lord WHAT IS MERCY? St. Thomas Aquinas defined the virtue of "mercy" in his great Summa Theologiae (ST II-II.30.1) as "the compassion in our hearts for another person's misery, a compassion which drives us to do what we can to help him."

It is the Mercy of God, this compassion in His heart for our misery, which extends with Divine power to us, to heal us in our wounded and sinful state. Devotion to the Mercy of God is devotion to the healing power of the Cross. The Blood and Water which poured forth as a fount for poor sinners is Christ's gift of Himself to all those who will accept His Love and be restored by the power of His Grace. THE DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET - A PRAYER FOR OUR TIMES The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a powerful devotion given by our Lord to St. Faustina Kowalska in the early 20th century. This devotion is a profound prayer of reparation that begs the grace of conversion and offers the sacrifice of Christ's own Passion for the sake of sinful mankind. Our Lord told St. Faustina, "The souls that say this chaplet will be embraced by My mercy during their lifetime and especially at the hour of their death.” (Diary, 754)

.PRAY DAILY. .PRAYER OF POPE FRANCIS FOR PROTECTION AND HELP.

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm. You…know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of those of us who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. BISHOP IS ASKING US TO PRAY A ROSARY DAILY TO MARY OUR MOTHER

From Fr. Javier TEACHING FROM THE CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH - THE SACRAMENTS OF THE CHURCH - The Sacrament of Matrimony My beloved brothers and sisters thanks to Our Lord Jesus Crist I am back to our Church. Thanks to all of you for keep me in your prayers, may God keep you safe always. My dear brothers and sisters, let us continued our learning from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. According to our catechism, mixed marriages and disparity of cult in many countries the situation of a mixed marriage (marriage between a Catholic and a baptized non-Catholic) often arises. It requires particular attention on the part of couples and their pastors. A case of marriage with disparity of cult (between a Catholic and a non-baptized person) requires even greater circumspection. Difference of confession between the spouses does not constitute an insurmountable obstacle for marriage, when they succeed in placing in common what they have received from their respective communities, and learn from each other the way in which each lives in fidelity to Christ. But the difficulties of mixed marriages must not be underestimated. They arise from the fact that the separation of Christians has not yet been overcome. The spouses risk experiencing the tragedy of Christian disunity even in the heart of their own home. Disparity of cult can further aggravate these difficulties. Differences about faith and the very notion of marriage, but also different religious mentalities, can become sources of tension in marriage, especially as regards the education of children. The temptation to religious indifference can then arise. According to the law in force in the Latin Church, A mixed marriage needs for liceity the express permission of ecclesiastical authority. In case of disparity of cult an express dispensation from this impediment is required for the validity of the marriage. This permission or dispensation presupposes that both parties know and do not exclude the essential ends and properties of marriage; and furthermore that the Catholic party confirms the obligations, which have been made known to the non-Catholic party, of preserving his or her own faith and ensuring the baptism and education of the children in the Catholic Church. God bless you

Most months, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson gives out food to 5,000 - 7,000 people at their 3 food pantries. In April of 2020, this number practically doubled, as they helped over 11,000 individuals who are feeling the direct economic impact of COVID-19. Bishop Serratelli has authorized a Catholic Charities Diocesan-wide food collection in all parishes. This year, the drive has gone virtual, and you can shop online and have items directly shipped to Catholic Charities Food Pantries.

HAPPY INDEPENDANCE DAY

------------------------------ The four principles of the Knights of Columbus are: Charity, Unity,

Fraternity and Patriotism. Charity - Love thy neighbor as thyself. Unity - together we can accomplish far more than any of us could

individually. Fraternity - the good works of individual Knights illustrate how Catholics serve each other. Patriotism - we are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both.
