Preview of Next Sunday’s Readings The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ The King

November 20, 2016 First reading: Samuel 5:1-3 Second reading: Colossians 1:12-20 Gospel: Luke 23:35-43 A reading from the book of Samuel In those days, all the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron and said: "Here we are, your bone and your flesh. In days past, when Saul was our king, it was you who led the Israelites out and brought them back. And the LORD said to you, 'You shall shepherd my people Israel and shall be commander of Israel.'" When all the elders of Israel came to David in Hebron, King David made an agreement with them there before the LORD, and they anointed him king of Israel. A reading from the second letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians Brothers and sisters: Let us give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light. He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he himself might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile all things for him, making peace by the blood of his cross through him, whether those on earth or those in heaven. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, "He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God." Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, "If you are King of the Jews, save yourself." Above him there was an inscription that read, "This is the King of the Jews." Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us." The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, "Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." He replied to him, "Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise."

December 4th at 3:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Religious Education Office Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Novembers 13, 2016 Sunday’s Gospel, Luke 21:5-19 Reflecting in God’s Word Today's Gospel makes it clear that we should persevere in our faith and be faithful disciples. We are most responsible for evangelizing our own children. There is an expression, "Faith is caught, not taught." How do our children see us live out our faith? How do we witness the greatness of God's love and our personal response to that love? Share with your child(ren) what it means for you to walk with Jesus. Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family Find a copy of Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco at the library or Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. Read the book as a family and talk about who was there when someone was afraid. Ask one another who helps us when we're afraid? The answer may be predictable or you might be surprised. In either case, it's good to remind one another that Jesus is always with us...especially when we are afraid. RELIGIOUS ED. OFFICE HOURS R.E. Office hours are Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm; Wednesday 12:00 to 8:00 pm. Friday by appointment only; closed Saturday and Sunday. For more information you can contact Irma at (323) 725-7578 Ext. 312. Question of the Week Children: Have you ever worried about something that might happen? What can help you worry less? Adults: When bad things happen, how do you deal with them? Pregunta de la semana Niños: ¿Alguna vez te has preocupado por algo que podría suceder? ¿Qué te ayudaría a preocuparte menos? Adultos: ¿Cuando suceden cosas malas, ¿cómo lidias con éstas? SACRAMENTAL MARRIAGE INFORMATION If you would like information regarding Marriage Preparation, please call the Religious Education Office at least six months in advance of proposed Wedding date at (323) 725-7578 Ext. 312. DID YOU KNOW? ¿SABIA USTED?

Bullying prevention starts at home From cyberbullying to name-calling and exclusion, bullying can affect people of every age, especially kids and teens in school. Their peers can be cruel, so it’s important to talk about how to handle bullies, especially before a situation escalates. One way to stop the cycle of bullying in its tracks, is to teach kids to speak kindly to others and to treat everyone around them with respect. For more information, please visit https://www.faithandsafety.org/bullying.
