HEALTH NEWS FROM PADRE

Just before the Covid-19 pandemic began to spread and eventually

closed down our country, I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.

Based on my prostate cancer growth, I was diagnosed in an

intermediate unfavorable category.

After considering various options for treatment, I have elected to have surgery

to remove the prostate. While there are some very negative after-effects to

surgery, I am ready to deal with them as best I can. My surgery will be on July 6th

at Saint Joseph Hospital in Saint Joseph.

In order to assure that I will not be compromised leading to surgery, I will not

celebrate the Masses on the weekend of July 4th and 5th and the weekend after

on July 11th and 12th and then we will see how recovery goes from there. I ask

for your prayers for the surgeon and for all who will be working with me. All

communication regarding my recovery will be posted on the parishes’ websites.

God has and will continue to be good to me. I do not know what the future will

bring but I am ready to do what is best for my health and for my parish families.

Sunday’s responsorial psalm gives me a proper way to face this surgery:

“Forever, I will sing the goodness of God.” God bless you all, stay safe and stay

well. Padre

Communion Prayer Services Offered

While Padre is recovering from surgery, we will have a Communion Prayer Service at Our Lady on Tues., July 7 at 6:30 pm and at St. Ann on Thurs., July 9 at 9:30 am. Weekday Masses are canceled this week. Please keep Fr. Bob in prayer.

SACRED HEART

FIRST FRIDAY

MEMORIAL

We are now receiving requests for

the “Sacred Heart First Friday

Memorial” program for next year

beginning August 7th. Parishioners

and friends are invited to enroll their

beloved dead to have them

remembered in prayer in a special

way. The deceased who are enrolled

will be listed monthly in the parish

bulletin throughout the year from

August - July. They will also be

remembered in the Mass intention of

the First Friday of each month at Our

Lady. Parishioners of St. Ann and Our

Lady may enroll deceased individuals

or deceased families. Prayer

envelope are available at the doors.

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden

light.” - Matthew 11:30

When we think of being good stewards,

we may think that God is asking too

much of us when He calls us to generous-

ly share our time, talent and treasure.

However, we must remember that we

are not “owners” of anything, we are

merely “stewards” of the gifts God has

given us. All He is asking is that we give

back a small portion, in gratitude, of

what He has already given to us.

For anyone who has experienced distress/trauma over the

ongoing Covid-19 crisis, we are excited to share

information that can be of great help! Trauma Recovery

Associates, based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is focused on

providing sound mental health strategies to those

individuals who have experienced trauma in their lifetime.

The RENEW program is specifically offered online to help

the rising number of people who have felt the trauma of

dealing with the current Covid-19 pandemic.

What is RENEW?

RENEW is an anonymous independent

study program created by TRA to help

people recover from the stress and anxiety of the

pandemic.

What is RENEW about?

RENEW addresses six topics: Caring for your Body; your

Mind; your Emotions; your Behaviors; your Spirit;

Yourself. They are all aspects of our lives that can be

affected by the pandemic and its consequences.

How much does RENEW cost?

RENEW is a free program thanks to the financial support of

generous donors.

How do I access RENEW?

Go to TRA's website www.TraumaRecoveryAssociates.com to the RENEW logo on the home page. Click on Learn More. 1. Register (anonymously) and create your own access

code and password.

2. Watch an introductory video.

3. Download the printed materials for yourself to read

and do the "homework."

There are 6 units; you can download them anytime you

access the website. There's also a concluding video.

Fr. Ken Schmidt in Kalamazoo helped develop this

program and is sharing it with those in our diocese to use.

7 Things Every High School Graduate Should Hear

1. Live with intention. Life will be full of new opportunities. Think carefully about your priorities for your new start.

2. Make the right friends. There will be plenty of new people! Concentrate on the ones who motivate you to be a better person.

3. It's a big world! Look for new perspectives, new opportunities, and new ideas that push you to grow.

4. Find a mentor. Building relationships with people who have "been there, done that" can be a great help.

5. Give yourself away. You may not need to volunteer anymore, but you'll be surprised by what you learn, how you grow, and whom you meet when you serve.

6. Before you leave home, learn how to do your laundry, address an envelope, schedule a doctor's appointment, use public transportation, and cook basic meals (ramen doesn't count!).

7. Remember that God is in control. And that's a good thing!

A Prayer for Our Graduates

Heavenly Father, Surround those who are graduating with your grace. Bless them with hope so that they move into the future with eager and open hearts. Help them to use the knowledge, skills, and insights gained through their education for the good of all mankind. Inspire them to believe in the goodness of life even when faced with challenges and difficulties. As they commence with their lives, may they grow even more grateful and wise. Amen.

REFLECT ON READINGS FOR JULY 5

FIRST READING

The prophet Zechariah envisioned a future king for the

people of Israel who would rule the nations with justice

and humility. How do you see these virtues as a strength in

leadership?

SECOND READING

Paul speaks of the promise of the resurrection from the

dead for believers who reject the flesh and live according

to the spirit. What spiritual exercises do you practice that

help reject the flesh.

GOSPEL READING

Jesus praises his Father for the irony of the wise and

learned who are unable to see what is revealed to the

childlike. What does this tell us about the kingdom of

heaven?

The National Association of Catholic Nurses

The National Association of Catholic

Nurses is pleased to announce the start of a local council

in our diocese. The steering committee is working

diligently to develop the core components of meeting

time, location and topics. The main goals of the council

are to provide spiritual nourishment, ethical support,

networking and friendship with fellow Catholic Nurses.

Join https://NACN-USA.org and as a member of the

national association you will be automatically enrolled as

a member in our local council and will receive updates on

council formation. Questions? Contact Regional Director

Janet C. Munday, BSN, RN., [email protected].

The above quote is from Padre’s June 28th

homily which can be found in its entirety by

going to the parish websites.

When we reach out

to others, we reach

out to Christ Himself.

Fourth of July

Prayer

Fr. Ed Hays

A Pilgrim’s Almanac p. 111

We lift up our hearts, O God,

on this day of celebration in gratitude

for the gift of being Americans.

We rejoice with all those who share

in the great dream of freedom

and dignity for all.

With flags and feasting,

with family and friends

we salute those who have sacrificed

that we might have the opportunity

to bring to fulfillment

our many God-given gifts.

As we deny all prejudice a place

in our hearts,

may we also clearly

declare our intention

to work for the time when all people,

regardless of race, religion, or sex,

will be granted equal dignity and worth.
