With Hands to Serve and Hearts to Love

May is here, and the engine of activity heats up at OLA. This weekend, we are ready to celebrate at the Country Fair, OLA’s biggest community event of the year. This is the event that manufactures the most smiles on our children’s faces. We can’t wait for the fun to start.

If you have not yet sent in your response to our Annual Giving Fund, please do so now, whether or not you are able to participate this year. We thank you for your consideration.

This is another reminder to please enter any service hours that you have served this year on SchoolSpeak. As we are nearing the end of the school year, we will be reviewing the hours soon.

God bless, and we’ll see you at the Country Fair!

St. Francis High School Summer School 2013 Fun and exciting summer credit and non-credit courses and camps for 5th-12th graders – boys and girls – are available on the St. Francis High School campus for your sons and daughters, cousins, neighbors, and friends. Students take classes in June and/or July so they can get ahead, have a free block off in the school year, hone their skills, and learn something new. First Session: June 13-July 3; Second Session: July 8-July 26. Courses and Camps vary in length. Select your courses and camps from the Summer School Catalog, then register through the Summer School Store: www.stfrancishs.org/summer/courses. Junior Academics Plus 2013 Jesuit High School has offered Academics Plus for boys entering Grades 7 and 8 for more than 20 years. Parish News OLA & Diocesan Capital Campaign: Special Parish & School Survey The week of May 20, all parishioners and school families will be invited to participate in a special survey to help determine the future of OLA in relation to the timing of the next phase of our Capital Campaign with the Diocese’s ONE campaign. Please watch for a special letter in next week’s bulletin that outlines our achievements through Phase I of our capital campaign, shares the vision of a Phase II campaign for a new parish center, and provides information on the Diocese’s ONE campaign to help you prayerfully advise Fr. Kiernan on how OLA might proceed. No one will be asked for a gift or pledge at this time. This is simply a brief survey to help Fr. Kiernan and parish leadership garner feedback from our parishioners and school families as they consider the needs of both our parish and Diocese. Again, please look for this information in next week’s bulletin, as well as through parish and school emails, and a special mailing to all households. OLA Baby Shower Gift Drive: May 6 – June 2, 2013 “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” – Psalm 127:3

So many homeless and low-income women in our community do not have a loving and supportive family to help them after delivering a baby. Instead of being able to fully experience the joy and amazement of this special time, they worry about a decent place to live and wonder how they are going to meet the basic needs of their baby. During the month of May, the month of Our Blessed Mother, families at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and School will be encouraged to bring a donation for our Baby Shower Gift Drive. All donations will be distributed to pregnant and new mothers in need, through the Sacramento Life Center and Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home. Baby formula and baby food donations will go to our own St. Vincent de Paul food locker. Simply bring your new and unwrapped gift to the Baby Shower Gift Drive display. (A list of suggested items is available). Your generosity will shower women with love at a time when it is so desperately needed. Thank you!

For more information, please contact Adele Lozito at [email protected] or call (916) 812-7712. Respect Life Sunday & Faire – June 2, 2013

“You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works!” – Psalm 139:13-14

At the request of the Most Reverend Jaime Soto, the Life Center Mobile Medical Clinic will begin touring parishes throughout the Diocese, and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church will be the first to host it! On Sunday, June 2, 2013, our parish will celebrate this honor with a day of worship inside our Church and a Respect Life Faire outside. The Life Center Mobile Medical Clinic will be in our parking lot and available for tours. Other Faire participants include Fertility Care Centers (NaProTechnology), 40 Days for Life, Easter’s Catholic Books, Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home, Immaculate Heart Radio, OLA Faith Formation, and Respect Life Ministry. Faire goers will have access to valuable information on a variety of respect life topics and receive rosaries, holy cards, Lifesavers candy, “I am wonderfully made” cause bracelets, and more. This is a first for the Sacramento Diocese and promises to be a great event. Save the date and join the fun! For more information or to volunteer, contact Adele Lozito at [email protected] or (916) 812-7712.

Are You Interested in Becoming Catholic? Maybe you have always wanted to join the Catholic Church but for whatever reason you haven’t been able to find the time, or maybe your questions have never been answered properly. Many people are intimidated and don’t feel comfortable asking questions regarding the Church. Perhaps your spouse is Catholic, and you’ve always wanted to share in the faith. There are many reasons people have for shying away from classes or embracing faith. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, which is the process people go through in order to become a part of the Catholic Church, can be a source of confusion. Our RCIA team would love the opportunity to welcome you and answer your questions! They will share specifics with you regarding this process at an informational meeting on Wednesday, May 22, at 7pm, in St. John’s Hall. Feel free to invite friends and ask any questions you may have. We look forward to sharing this evening with you!! Call Kimberly at 488-4626 for more information. Adoration Volunteers Needed We still are in need of some regular volunteers to sign up for an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays in order to keep this beautiful devotion going. If you would like to help, contact Kimberly at 488-4626. Camp Pendola Registration The official summer camp of the Diocese of Sacramento, Camp Pendola, is now accepting registrations for the 2013 summer season. I’m sure many of you remember the fun of summer camp in your youth. Why not treat your 6 - 17 year old children to an experience that will help them build lasting relationships and teach stewardship of God’s creation through Christian community living in the outdoors.

Please check out the Web site at pendola.org, or call 733-0141 for more information.
