The mystery of the Ascension has to do with holding in tension
a sense of God's nearness, along with the burden caused by apparent
signs of absence. The risen Jesus says to Mary Magdalene, "Do
not cling to me," perhaps pointing out to her that his physical
presence to the disciples was time bound and temporary. It was
a gift for their transformation, and after forty days, he vanished
from their sight and hearing, though never out of their consciousness.

June 5: Immediate Preparation for Adult Confirmation
June 12: Mystagogy on Confirmation: Potluck, Jeopardy
Because the Gospel of Luke closes with a very brief telling of the
ascent of Jesus into heaven, we hear the story twice today, also
from the Book of the Acts of the Apostle, the continuing and
expansion of Luke's Good News. Think about what the disciples
of Jesus experienced during the time after the Resurrection, that
sacred time with Jesus who prepared breakfast for them on the
seashore, assured them of his continuing presence, promised to
send an Advocate, the Paraclete, and commissioned them to
continue his work of teaching, healing, and baptizing.................
What were the disciples thinking about, hoping for - and praying
about - while they watched Jesus ascend out of their sight and
when they spent time gathered in the Upper Room after the
Ascension? The leader they have followed was risen and alive
after his crucifixion. But now he was gone from their sight
- ascended into heaven - "going to the Father to make a place" for
them, as he said. The Gospel tells us that they returned to the
city of Jerusalem with great joy and were continually praising
God in the temple - in public. What were they to do - how were
they to go out and teach all nations?...........................................
They, like us, received from Jesus the mission to go teach and live
the Good News. Our hearts are tuned to the Good News of Jesus
Christ - that he came to save all peoples, that the Father cares
for all his children, and that the Holy Spirit will come to give strength
and guidance. This promise gives hope to the followers of Jesus.
The disciples were real-life witnesses to the life, death and
resurrection of Jesus. We have eyes of faith strengthened by
centuries of teachings and guidance of the Spirit in and through
the Church....................................................................................
Please pray for our adults who are preparing for Confirmation on
June 6, Maricela, August, Tim, Mia, Thalia, Angelica, Candace,
Alycia, Andrea, Alaina, Bryan, Leighann, Alejandra and Rosemary.
From RICA, Siurabé, Angelica, Sayli, Yazmine, and Eugenio who
will be confirmed on June 9. May they be inspired and companioned
in participation using their gifts for the building up of the community.
Thank you for your example of being a committed active parish
member!.......................................................................................
Alycia, Andrea, Alaina, Bryan, Leighann, Alejandra y Rosemary.
