~~~~~~~~~~~~ MEMORIALS: The Sanctuary Lamp and the
Bread and Wine may be memorialized in memory
of a loved one or for a special intention. The cost
for each is $25.00. Please call the rectory to reserve.
Mass Reservations A reservation system for Sunday Masses is in place with
a seating capacity of 80 per Mass. This reflects 25% of
our official capacity. If a particular Mass “maxes out” at
25% for three consecutive weeks, the “Re-opening Task
Force” will be consulted as to how to best accommodate
the additional attendees. We continue to encourage all
parishioners to use the reservation link which is located
on our website www.olscc.com Please print your
confirmation and bring it to Mass with you. Members of
the Task Force will be on hand before and after Mass to
assist attendees. Family “units” may sit together.
Remember…You do not have an obligation to go to
Mass during the coronavirus pandemic. Cardinal Dolan
has dispensed us from the obligation to attend Sunday
Mass at this time. Please join us for Mass in the church
only when you feel safe and comfortable to do so. As an
alternative, you can watch Mass on-line or on T.V. and
make an Act of Spiritual Communion (see below) when
you are unable to physically receive the Eucharist.
FYI…We will continue to hold the 12 noon Sunday
Mass outdoors as long as weather permits.
Parishioners are asked to register, wear masks, bring
their own chair and maintain social distancing.
Prayer for a Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most
Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I
desire to receive you in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you
sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my
heart. I embrace you as if you were already there
and unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
The Sanctuary Lamp is lit this week
For the intentions of
The Krench Family.
And
The Bread and Wine are offered this week in
Loving memory of
Catherine & Joseph Mastronardi.
OUR THANKSGIVING CORNER
THANKSGIVING DAY: The origins of our
Thanksgiving holiday can be traced back to long before
the “first Thanksgiving.” Early cultures such as the
Egyptians, Greeks and Romans had periodic feasts and
festivals which paid tribute to their gods after a bountiful
harvest. The Jewish holiday of Sukkot, commonly known
as the “Feast of Gathering” or “Feast of Tabernacles” is a
week-long celebration in late September / early October,
which marked the end of harvest time and also serves to
remind the Jews of the Israelite’s Exodus from Egypt,
and their reliance on God for their journey and to give
thanks to the Lord for his goodness. Native Americans
also celebrated harvest time, and both the Separatist and
Puritan settlers brought traditions of fasting in times of
tribulation or penitence and feasting in times of
abundance to give thanks to God. This day implies that
there is a God, that God is provident, that we recognize
what God has done, that we can address God about our
blessings, and that the best thing we can say is “Thanks.”
If anyone knows how to give thanks to God, the Church
should know best. The very word Eucharist means
“thanksgiving.”
THANKSGIVING DAY MASS: This year,
Thanksgiving Day will be celebrated this Thursday,
November 26th
and is a National Holiday. We will have
one Mass at 9:00am. On this day, we gather together to
ask Almighty God for His blessings and thank Him for
what we have received---especially the opportunity to
share in the Eucharist. We also ask God to watch over us
as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
Parishioners are asked to register, wear masks and
maintain social distancing. On the Friday after
Thanksgiving (November 27) we will have one Mass at
8:00 a.m.
THANKSGIVING PRAYER: Father, God of
goodness, You have given us this land and made it fruitful
through the work of human hands. Bless this harvest of
plenty. May it sustain our lives and draw us more closely
to one another and to You in thanksgiving and praise.
Amen.
THANKSGIVIGING DAY HOLIDAY: The rectory
and office will be closed on both Thanksgiving Day and
Friday, November 27.
From our table to yours,
Happy Thanksgiving!
CHRIST THE KING
“The Church celebrates the kingship of Christ the King
on this last Sunday in Ordinary time. How can he reign
for us, be king for us? We would look for his reign in this
world if we hear these words: “I was hungry, and you
gave me food, I was thirsty, a stranger in your midst,
naked, ill, and in prison, and in my need you gave me
water, clothing, comfort, and friendship.” If we would
look for him today, we shall not discover him clothed in
the garments of unbridled power. We shall discover him
within and without where he robes himself in our frailty,
in our flesh, in the rhythms of conflict and peace, of pain
and pleasure which move through human life: here he
reigns. And in the world, hidden in the open hand
begging for a taste of bread and a cup of water, in the
struggle for justice and peace, in the lives of women and
men, here he reigns. And yes, at last, he reigns among us
in our meal of thanksgiving. To those who thirst for his
justice, he offers his royal body and blood that we might
taste it on our lips and become that very mercy which we
eat and drink. Here he reigns!” [Samuel Torvend, OP]
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST,
KING OF THE UNIVERSE
First Reading: Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17
This passage beautifully describes how the Lord God, as
shepherd, will tend his flock. He will rescue those who
are lost, bring back those who stray, heal the sick, and
“pasture” all.
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28
Paul once again stresses the significance of Christ’s
resurrection in the total divine plan, emphasizing that
Christ’s rising means that those who believe in him will
also rise after death. Christianity, he argues, is
meaningless if it concerns only this life on earth. In the
end, even death will be destroyed, and “God will be all in
all.”
Gospel: Matthew 25:31-46
With words both poetic and vivid, Jesus tells the disciples
that since he is present in all people, whatever they do to
“one of my least brothers” they do to him; and whatever
they fail to do to his “least,” they fail to do to him. ©1999 Bon Venture Services, Inc.
CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR
HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
This weekend the second collection is for the Catholic
Campaign for Human Development. The Campaign has
funded thousands of projects nationally and more than
100 in the Archdiocese of NY that have empowered
people to work together to solve community problems,
create jobs and build affordable housing. The Campaign
gives us an opportunity to respond to the Gospel’s call to
solidarity with the poor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ OUR LADY’S GUILD
invites all to join in their
“Sharing Is Caring Collection” Once again, OUR LADY’S GUILD will be helping Sr.
Alice Conrad, R.D.C. spread Christmas joy to
marginalized families in our area. Sr. Alice founded
SHEPHERD’S FLOCK to help hard working people who
do not receive public assistance. Most can barely make
ends meet and any donation is welcome. For their 2020
Christmas Philanthropy Our Lady’s Guild will be
collecting GIFT CARDS to help these proud families
provide for their loved ones especially compromised
during this unusual holiday season. $25.00 gift cards to
Target, CVS, Stop & Shop and Shop Rite would be
greatly appreciated. Please deliver the gift cards to the
rectory office in an envelope marked SHEPHERD’S
FLOCK or call/text Maryann Martin 914- 310- 5164. To
allow time for delivery the collection will end on
December 17.
