    FIRST READING

2 Samuel 7:1-5, 8b-12 The kingdom of David Shall endure for ever

    before the Lord.

    SECOND READING

Romans 16:25-27 The mystery kept secret for long ages has now

    been manifested.

    GOSPEL READING

Luke 1:26-38 Behold, you will conceive in your womb and

    bear a son. **********************************

As we begin our last week of preparation for the

coming of our Lord, we listen to the preparations

three others took during earlier eras. King David

intended to prepare a house for the ark of God, but

God revealed a more important house to prepare.

Saint Paul completed his letter to the Romans, a

church he’d helped prepare for the mystery of

Christ. In the Gospel, Mary agreed to prepare a

place in her womb for the Son of God. Let us

prepare a place in our hearts now for the word of

    God.

    FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

    Dear Parishioners:

As Christmas day comes ever nearer, the Church invites us to turn our eyes on the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ

at Christmas. The account of Jesus' conception in the Gospel according to Luke, like that of Mathew, is a

central Christological statement in which the Evangelist made three fundamental points: The first is Jesus'

lineage as a descendant from the line of the prophet David. Luke's second theme points to the fact that Jesus is

the Son of God. His third point underscores our blessed mother Mary's response to the angel Gabriel.

The prophet Samuel details the oracle of the promise made to David in his first reading. Saint Paul, the Apostle,

concludes his letter to the Romans with a doxology praising God for the work accomplished through Jesus for

the people of God. Finally, Mary's conversation with the angel Gabriel focuses on our faith's essential truths. In

God's plan, there is to be the conception and birth of a Son, whose name is Jesus and leads to our human

    salvation.

The premise of all these readings was to assure us how God the Father took the initiative in uniting human

nature in the birth of Jesus, the promised Messiah, whose historical birthday we celebrate at Christmas.

Therefore, Christmas is the greatest gift that all mighty God, who does things miraculously, for the redemption

of our lowliness, has given us.

While anyone can celebrate a holiday, our Christmas celebration requires a personal encounter with Christ. This

encounter should also include our blessed mother, Mary's Christmas love. The dual gift of Jesus and Mary's

love in our hearts compels us to put aside all other lesser emotions that we live by and to cling to the Word

Incarnate who came to save us amidst these unprecedented times of uncertainties.

As we prepare ourselves to celebrate Jesus' historical birth at Christmas by decorating our Church, turning on

the Christmas lights, putting up the Christmas trees, buying assorted gifts, let us not forget the real purpose of

Christmas. The goal is not a time to exclusively concentrate on the materialism of the Christmas season.

Instead, it is a time to know and encounter Christ personally into our hearts. It requires an internal disposition to

welcome him and celebrate his birthday at Christmas. The only birthday gift he needs is the gift of our lives.

Conversion plays an integral part in the Christmas message. Let us remember that there will be several

opportunities to partake in the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Monday, December 21, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

and on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Holy Innocents and 4:30 Pm to 5:00 Pm at Our Lady of

Refuge parishes as we ready ourselves for the birth of Jesus Christ.

Please permit me to take this opportunity on behalf of my brother Priests, Deacons, and my entire staff at Holy

Innocents and Our Lady of Refuge, to extend to you and your family a blessed Christmas 2020 filled with

blessings, health, and Joy during this pandemic time.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Fr. Lucon Rigaud, Administrator

    Stewardship Reflection

There are just five days left until the celebration of

Christmas begins. Let’s live these last days of

    Advent well.

We read in today’s Gospel passage from Luke the

wonderful words of the Blessed Mother's “fiat,” her

“yes” to God’s plan. “Behold, I am the handmaid of

the Lord. May it be done to me according to your

word.” These are among the most beloved words in

the Gospel. But the next sentence is also important

    for the Christian steward.

After Mary’s fiat, we read, “Then the angel

departed from her.” Our Blessed Mother was left

with a lot of unexplained details about God’s plan

for her! Yet, she followed God’s will perfectly. She

gave herself and her life fully to God as a gift. She

was the first disciple. We are called to follow her

    example today.

This Christmas let us resolve to make our whole life

a gift to the One Who has given us everything. He

will give us all the help and strength we need.
