MATRIMONY: Engaged couples should contact the priest at least 6 months before the intended date of marriage. Pre-marriage preparation is required. Donation for Mass is $250. Contact the parish office to make an appointment. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION & SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: Each Sunday at 11:00 AM. Registrar for classes at the parish office on Tuesday or Thursday from 9 AM – 12 PM or 3 PM – 6PM. $30 for first child, $20 for second child, $10 for each additional child. Baptism certification (if baptized) is required for registration. For questions, contact the parish office. HOME VISITORS MINISTRY: Please call the parish office to arrange for a home visit by the ministry team. RCIA – ADULT SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM: RCIA is a sacramental preparation program for adults who have not received Baptism, Eucharist, or Confirmation. Contact the parish office.

How Firm a Foundation On Pentecost, we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem. We typically associate Pentecost with the beginning of the Church because it is when the apostles received the Holy Spirit, which enabled them to proclaim in different languages. The passage from Sunday’s first reading, from the Acts of Apostles, tells of Jews from every nation in Jerusalem understanding the apostles, who were Galileans. The Gospel passage is the same passage from the second Sunday of Easter, when Jesus appears in the upper room and breathes on the disciples saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit”. The Gospel passage from John, in context of the Feast of Pentecost, reminds us about the connection between the gifts of peace and forgiveness and the action of the Holy Spirit. In the upper room, Jesus greets his disciples, with peace and then commissions his disciples to continue the work that he has begun. He then breathes the Holy Spirit upon them to continue his work of reconciliation through the forgiveness of sins. Last Sunday, the Ascension, we read about Jesus commissioning the disciples from a passage from the Gospel of Matthew. The mission is to go baptize and teach people of all nations. In the passage from Acts last Sunday, as Jesus prepares to ascend to heaven, he tells the disciples that they will receive power from the Holy Spirit and they will be witnesses in Jerusalem and to the ends of the earth.
