Please pray for the Church in our Diocese

Heavenly Father, Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Form us all in the likeness of your Son, so that in Him, with Him, and through Him, we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere.

With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord.

This week we pray especially for:

Ethan Hokamp of Our Lady Queen of Heaven, WI Rapids

    Theology II North American College

    Prayer Intention of the Week:

For all who suffer in any way

in body or mind, may God

    fill them with divine

    life and peace

    Saint of the Week

    St. Anthony

Anthony lived in Egypt between 251 and 356. At twenty he became a hermit, living alone and experiencing continual temptations until 306, when he dedicated

himself to the numerous disciples he had attracted. He intervened in important doctrinal questions of the Church, supported persecuted Christians, and confuted Arianism. His cult was enormously widespread during the Middle Ages. In art, he is depicted in the dress of a hermit, with a T-shaped staff, a bell, and a pig. He is invoked against ergotism, the so-called St. Anthony’s fire.

St. Anthony is the protector of butchers, salami-makers, basket-makers, and domestic animals.

The name Anthony is from the Roman family name Antonius.

  • 2 Welcome to Our Lady of Peace Parish · Marshfield

When I was growing up at St. Mary’s Parish in Richland Center, I loved potluck dinners at the church. That meant more variety than our standard casseroles, and I could eat all I wanted. And I remember how upset I was when my sisters were allowed to go to a potluck dinner with our mother while I had to stay home. As I kept asking “Why?” mom kept answering that the mother-daughter banquet was only

for daughters. “When do they have one for the sons?” I asked. “They don’t,” mom answered. “That’s not fair.” And you know mom’s answer to that one . . . . . “Life’s not fair.” But I was a little kid back then. I couldn’t have been more than 17.

So ladies first! I’m happy to announce that OLP will be hosting a Father-Daughter Dinner and Dance on Saturday evening, February 4th starting at 5:00 for all the parishes of the deanery. Dads, bring your daughters 12 and under to Dillenburg Hall, and dress nicely as we’ll have someone taking pictures for you. My parents are very proud of the portrait of my little brother Matt with his daughter at a similar event that his parish hosted in Onalaska. I’ll take care of the food (buffet style). So that we can get a headcount, I ask that fathers call Lilly at 575-517-9432 or email at [email protected] to sign up.

You know that I work with a powerful marriage ministry known as Retrouvaille. If you or someone close to you is in a painful marriage and wants help, there is nothing out there better than Retrouvaille. I can help anyone who wants to register for the program, or you can call 1-877-922-HOPE(4673). I will be away next weekend as well as the second weekend in February serving Retrouvaille. I am happy to have Father Rajan here so that he can cover the Masses. Please do pray for the people who will attend Retrouvaille and for all marriages.

    God bless you! --Fr. Berns

    From Our Pastor

Gift Presentation: Would you consider carrying up the offertory gifts at Mass with your family, your spouse, or even by yourself? All you need to do is let the ushers know before Mass that you are willing to do it. It would be wonderful to see new faces presenting before the Lord our earthly gifts that become the Eucharist.

Sacraments Baptism - Parents requesting to have a child baptized are invited to call Father Berns directly at 715-384-9414. He will assist with any baptism preparation and scheduling a date.

Reconciliation - Celebrated on Saturdays from 4:30-5:15pm and upon request. Communal Penance Services are held during Advent and Lent.

First Eucharist and Confirmation - Ongoing catechesis is essential in the faith formation of the youth of Our Lady Peace Parish (OLP). Therefore, any child must be enrolled continually from the First Grade, in either Columbus Catholic Schools or OLP’s Religious Education Programs, to receive either the Sacraments of First Eucharist or Confirmation.

RCIA Christian Initiation of Adults - Anyone interested in joining the Catholic Church should contact Sister Virdean Meyer at 715-384-3044. Classes begin each Fall.

Marriage - Knowing how important it is to marry in the Church, we are happy to see weddings take place in our parish. Father Berns looks forward to meeting with engaged couples to assist them in marriage preparation. As this preparation takes time, couples are asked to contact Fr. Berns 8-12 months before the wedding.

Anointing of the Sick - If any parishioner is ill at home or going into the hospital and would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please contact Father Berns at 715-384-9414. A Mass of Healing with anointing is celebrated during the year.

New Parishioners - To join our community, please register at the Parish Office or call 715-384-9414 Ext. 2.

    ACADEMICS

Columbus offers a wide variety of course options for our high school students that not only challenge our students academically but

also help them to recognize the real life applications of what we are learning about.

Last month geometry students learned about the characteristics of regular (equilateral and equiangular) polygons, including their interior angle sums and exterior angle sums, which affect their ability to tessellate. Real life applications of tessellations are quilt blocks and bathroom tiles. Students studied the use of tessellations in the work of the artist M.C. Escher and made polyhedron Christmas tree ornaments.

Columbus Catholic Schools learning with a higher purpose.

Call Mary Hartl at 715-387-2444 for more information.

Those who have been attending regularly need not register.

    New participants are always welcome.

Offer each hour or activity of your day to God as a prayer for a specific intention. Set an alarm to go off each hour. Take a deep breath and lift the coming hour up to God. Ten seconds at the beginning of each hour will change your life.

Take 10 seconds at the beginning of each waking hour and offer it to God towards a

special intention. Set an Alarm to Remind Yourself.
