Stewardship Reflection
“For where your treasure is, there also will your
heart be.” LUKE 12:34
Jesus encourages us to build up our treasure in
heaven. The world encourages us to build up our
treasure in real estate, investments, and material
goods. How much time are you investing in building
up a worldly treasure? How much time are you in-
vesting in building up a heavenly treasure? To in-
vest more time in the things of heaven, you must let
go of some of the things of this world.
Stewardship
We have an obligation to share with others, that
which God has given us. Share your time, and tal-
ents. Men and women can become involved in the
life of our Parish by becoming an Altar Server,
Catechist, Choir Member, Lector, and/or Ush-
er. By taking an active role in the liturgical life, and
service of the Parish, you can have a wonderful ex-
perience. Feel free to fill out the form below, and
drop it in the collection basket or call the rectory.

Music Notes
Have you ever wondered why we often sing the
Psalm during our weekend liturgies? In order to an-
swer this, let us look at what the Psalms are and
where they came from.
Quite simply the Psalms come from
the Book of Psalms found in the Bible
itself. They are a series of prayers
whose purpose is to elevate one's
thoughts and feelings up to God. They
are on one hand, an expression of our
natural human struggles and our
plead to God for guidance. In another
sense, they are a divine recipe to liv-
ing our lives according to God's teachings. They
have both personal and communal dimensions.
The Psalms call to mind the truths revealed by God
to his chosen people, which were at one time quite
frightening and at other times, full of gentle tender-
ness. The Psalms after all make frequent use of pro-
phetic language which will often demand an ade-
quate understanding on our part.
Now let’s get back to our original question..why do
we sing the Psalms? At their very essence, most
Psalms are poetic in structure and offer a rhythmic
feel. Most biblical scholars would agree that they
were written to be sung! As further evidence of this,
Jesus himself sung the Psalms as he preached in
the temple. In fact, at the age of 12, as a pilgrim on
the way to the temple in Jerusalem, he sung the
Psalms meant for his journey: "I rejoiced when they
said to me, Let us go to the House of the Lord"....
(Psalm 122). In short order, music has the power to
elevate ones thoughts and feelings to God in a much
more intimate way. After all, God is the ultimate
creator of all that is good and beautiful...and music
is one of his most precious creations!
