Dear Parents,
Please pray for our Confirmation candidates as they conclude their preparation to receive the sacrament this coming weekend. At Confirmation, the Bishop anoints the forehead of each candidate with chrism, saying, “Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Confirmation celebrates the presence of the Holy Spirit in the person being confirmed, and in the Church that has nurtured his or her faith. Also, the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are bestowed on the candidates at Confirmation: wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence, and wonder and awe in God’s presence.
A reminder that we will need to accommodate many people in the church at both Confirmation Masses. We ask if all school aged students could please join the choir members in the loft. It would also help if the teenagers attending also joined the choir to leave maximum room for families and parishioners in the church. We ask that choir members be in the choir loft a half hour before Mass starts. Extended Hours of Instruction Our school recently had a school Audit. As a condition of our funding agreement with the government, Catholic Schools have to provide a designated number of hours of instruction across the school year. Our total hours need to increase, so from Monday, 15th September, school commenced at 8.45am , with the lunch break now concluding at 1.10pm. Parents bringing children to school will need to be aware of the earlier starting time. Open Morning and Daytime Disco Just a reminder that we are planning our Open Morning for Thursday 25th September. The morning will commence with a musical item showcasing the wonderful work happening with Mrs Hearne and Mrs Mifflin. Following on from the short assembly the classrooms will be open until recess time at 10.30am. At recess time parents are invited to join the staff for morning tea in the hall. Please note that children will not be permitted to leave their classrooms to visit other classes during the open morning. Teachers need to know where their students are at all times. After recess the students from Kindy to year 3 will participate in a junior disco. We will provide some activities in another classroom if the noise and movement is too much for some of the younger students. Students from years 4 to 7 will participate after lunch. Parents are welcome to join in for all, or part, of the discos. Children may come to school in free dress on Thursday, as they will be attending the disco, but we ask that they wear sensible clothing and footwear. My thanks in advance to the P&F Committee, for organising the music, decorations and for providing a
snack at interval time. This day promises to be a great day of fun and community. Please note that Thursday is not the last day of term. We have school on Friday. P&F Meeting – NEXT Tuesday 23rd September Our next P&F Meeting was postponed to next Tuesday 23rd September at 9:00am. Please join us for a coffee before the meeting. The meeting will include reports on the progress on the planning of our Early Childhood playground upgrade, the details of a grant we have received to help with the cost of the playground together with the planning for the Bull and Barrel festival. Please make an effort to come along and support the work of our parent leaders who do so much to develop and promote our school. Bull and Barrel Our P & F requires volunteers to assist with the festival this year. If you could assist in any way, your help would be greatly appreciated. Please refer to the purple flyer being sent home today for further information. PARISH NEWS
Japanese Students – The Dardanup Parish/Our Lady of Lourdes community has once again been invited to host Japanese high school students for three nights next February (10-13 February 2015). This is intended to be a joint fundraiser for the school P&F and Parish, and has been extremely successful in recent years. If your family may have the capacity to accommodate one or two students,
and provide for them an experience of rural life and farming, please contact Pam Harris ([email protected]) or Nick Maher ([email protected]) for further details and to express your interest. We are also looking for assistance in coordinating the program and we encourage parents, families and other interested parties to attend the next P&F meeting, 9am Tuesday 16 September, where the program will be discussed. Thank you.

Virtue of the Week
Loyalty What is Loyalty? Loyalty is staying true to someone. It is standing up for something you believe in without wavering. It is being faithful to your family, country, school, friends or ideals – when the going gets tough as well as when things are good. When you are a loyal friend, even if someone disappoints you, you still hang in there with them. Loyalty is staying committed. How do you Practice it? You practice loyalty by committing to a person, or a belief, choose your friends carefully, so you can be friends for a long time. If someone tries to use your loyalty for a bad purpose, or hurts you over and over, you need to decide if it feels right to go on being loyal. Stand up for your family and friends when others act unjustly. When you are loyal you are worthy of trust.
