the perfect “grab and go” food, since most fruits and many
vegetables, like carrots, celery, and bags of pre-washed
snap peas need no preparation.
ADVANCE NOTICE: Ash Wednesday is March 5th
which is the beginning of the Easter season. In order to
offer our Lenten fish fries this year, we need a volunteer
to head them. Kriston Galish needs to step down due to
taking on a full time job but is willing to help get you
started. Last year we profited $22,542.67 from this fund-

can even team up with another person to head them. If
interested, please call the rectory (947-3363).

ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE! You
Are My Beloved Son, With You I Am Well Pleased -
As Jesus was being baptized by John in the Jordan River
we are told of amazing things happening. First, the heav-
ens were opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon Je-
sus in the form of a dove. Then, the voice of God the
Father from heaven thundered, saying, “You are my be-
loved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Jesus did not
need to be baptized for the same reason we do. As the
Son of God, he was without sin. Yet, to be baptized is to
be anointed to fulfill the mission of God the Father in the
world. By being baptized in the Jordan, Jesus set an ex-
ample for us to follow. Through baptism we are freed
from original sin, sanctified by the Holy Spirit to share in
the life of God through the Sacraments and in the
Church, and anointed to fulfill the mission of faith, hope,
and love that God the Father has chosen for us. While
the Holy Spirit does not descend like a dove, he is present
in and through the baptized from the moment of baptism.
And while the walls of the church do not shake with the
thundering voice of the Father, the halls of heaven ring
with joy as every new beloved son and daughter of God
is welcomed into the life of faith through baptism. Our
baptism was not simply a ritual, but a life-changing event
that is in effect throughout our lives. How can the grace
of baptism continue to be at work for the good of our par-
ishes and communities? Visit onmissionchurchalive.org
to learn more and to stay informed.
INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE: Holy Spirit, make my
heart open to the Word of God. Make my heart open to
the goodness. Make my heart open to the beauty of God
every day.

HELP NEEDED: It’s not too early to start planning our
Lenten Fish Fries. This is by far our largest fundraiser
and requires a lot of help the days of the fish fry and the
days leading up to it. We are looking for volunteers for
kitchen help during the week to prep for the Friday fish
fry in addition to help the days of the fish fry. We can’t
afford to lose our largest fundraiser, so please consider
offering some of your time. Our 2018 fish fries were the
most successful ever, so we have a lot to live up to for
2019 to make them bigger and better than ever! Contact
the rectory to volunteer or for more info.
BAPTISM CLASS: The next baptism class for our par-
ish grouping will be at 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday, January
15th, at St. Patrick’s social hall in Oakdale. To attend,
you must register ahead of time by contacting Ms. Car-
mela Galloway at 724-695-7325 or stcolumbkillepar-
[email protected]. This class is for those who belong to
any of our six parishes and are baptizing their first child.
