A Cluster of Roman Catholic Communities Our Mission: People of God, united in Christ, serving others, welcoming all to the Table of Life
Our Lady of Lourdes † Saint Anne
Sunday, July 5th, 2020
Dear Friends, As we entered the pandemic-induced shut-down, I wondered if and how we would be able to have the Novena to St. Anne this year. This novena has been an annual event every year since St. Anne parish was founded in 1930. This year we celebrate 90 years of St. Anne. As we increasingly resume activities with the phased lifting of the shut-down, it is clear that we can have the Novena to St. Anne. We will need to wear face coverings and to practice social distancing, but we will be able to gather in prayer those nine evenings. The Novena to St. Anne begins Friday evening July
17th and continues to the Feast of Ss. Anne and Joachim on Sunday July 26th. Each evening of the Novena we will gather for evening prayer at 7PM. The theme this year is “Experiencing God During A Pandemic.” Each evening we will hear a different Scripture passage and a short reflection inviting us to recognize God’s loving presence even in these challenging times. This will be followed by a time for personal prayer and reflection. As always there will be beautiful, uplifting music. For the Feast of St. Anne itself, Bishop Matano preside at the 11AM Mass at St. Anne to celebrate with us the 90th anniversary of the parish. Please save the dates of the Novena, so that you may take advantage of the time and space to prayerfully let God’s peace flow into your spirit (even in the midst of these unsettling times). Grace and peace, Fr. Gary Tyman
Let the church always be a place of mercy and hope, where everyone is welcomed, loved, and forgiven. -Pope Francis

SEEKING A PART-TIME MAINTENANCE HELPER Currently, we are seeking candidates for a part-time (30 hrs/week year-round) Maintenance Worker who will assist Santos with cleaning and casual labor duties for the entire cluster and school – all our buildings and grounds. Work includes cleaning, mowing, snow removal, and general assistance with maintenance work. The successful candidate will have janitorial and skilled labor experience, able to lift 50 pounds, and able to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities. Please contact Dcn. Bill at [email protected] or (585) 473-9656 ext. 312
It is with the deepest gratitude that we thank several anonymous donors who were incredibly generous in donating the funds to purchase a new riding lawn mower for Our Lady of Lourdes. As you can see from the grin on Santos’ face, this new mower will be an invaluable tool for him to keep Lourdes
looking beautiful. As Deacon Bill says, a man is only as good as his tools, and now Santos has a tool worthy of his remarkable skills. Thank you to our special angels who made this possible.
Welcome Jennifer Abdalla, the new Brighton Faith Formation Director! Greetings friends! This week we officially combine the Faith Formation programs of the four Brighton Catholic parishes into one vibrant and thriving family! But before we get into the vision of where we are going, I’d like to first introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Abdalla and I have been involved in ministry from the first moment I served on the altar at St. Mary’s Church in Altmar, New York. (I will give you a gold star if you even know where that is!) I may not re-member much about the dynamics of that ten pew church, but I do remember the tireless dedication of the community who taught me the roots of the faith that now anchor me fearless to the changes of a growing Church ahead. I have studied and worked in the realm of health and human services for over twenty years. I have also worked in curriculum development, diversity training and afterschool programs in Oswego County school districts. From a ministerial perspective, I have worked in a variety of youth ministries, pastoral care and missionary endeavors. I have recently finished my graduate degree in Pastoral Studies at St. Bernard’s. But perhaps the most qualifying attribute of all is the young man who calls me “Mom.” Parenting, by far, has taught me more about the unconditional love of God than any other venue! When people ask me how I intend to teach four parishes of children the faith, the simple answer is, I am not. I am one of many who teach your children the faith every single day. As a young girl, I recall watching my grandmother assist with the food pantry, serve as a Eucharistic minister and lector. I stayed up late with my mother who would cut and sew beautiful banners for the altar, bring in baked goods for coffee hours and arrange for three unruly kids to be brought to church while she and my father had to work on Sundays. My father frequently gave part of his fishing, hunting and garden bounty to families that needed it more than we did. He also bought me my first Bible. All contributed to my vocation in Ministry that I now so deeply cherish. As we move forward through the challenges of our present circumstances, I am planning several options to meet the needs of our community and families regarding the pandemic. I am developing the Physical, Virtual and Hybrid classroom models for the Fall. If any combination of them are needed, it is my hope to give you a sense of where we are going depending on what is happening in the larger community. Whatever direction we need to go, we will go there together! I will be sending out one weekly newsletter via email to all our families in the weeks ahead. This will be our place to get the latest information and guidance as we move forward. The title of this newsletter is, “Growing in the Spirit.” This is precisely our vision; that we remain Rooted in Christ, Alive in the Sacramental life of the Church and Growing in the Spirit! My favorite banner that my mother made those many years ago said this, “Life is changed, Not ended.” That message is clearer to me now than ever before. As a Church, we are no strangers to adversity, difficulties, wars and plagues. Yet, here we are two thousand years later! We will grow
through this challenge too. Together.

Notes about the Monthly offertory report: Shown on the left is a comparison between actual weekly collection income to our collections expected each month. This fiscal year’s budget has been significantly reduced of all non-vital costs to reflect the drastic downward trend of our collections over the past several years (“weeklies” account for over 70% of each parish’s income)
A favorable monthly variance indicates the “weeklies” donated during the month exceeded the amount expected of the month. Meanwhile, an unfavorable monthly variance indicates the total “weeklies” donated during the month do not meet budgeted expectations and our financial obligations may not be met.
We will be resuming our volunteer schedule at some point in the next couple months. We will be calling volunteers before we bring them back to let them know what’s going on and to see if they’re still able to volunteer. If you would like to be one of our volunteers, we would love to have you and we need you more than ever. Please email either [email protected] or [email protected] to get added to the list! Thank you!
