Our Lady of Hope This Week

THROUGH SIMPLE SIGNS OF BREAD AND

WINE, THE PROFOUND GIFT OF JESUS IS

MADE PRESENT TO US

The sign of unity in our faith life is the Eucharist. The living bread we receive at Communion sus-tains us and reminds us that Jesus is with us al-ways. Let our humble belief in the Eucharist set a holy example to be followed.

2017 FAITH Catholic-Publishing and Communications

LITURGY OF THE WORD

In the first reading, Moses tells the people they must know hunger to appreciate the manna the Lord provided. In the second reading, Saint Paul professes faith in the Eucharist and calls believers to unity around the Eucharistic table. In the Gos-pel, Jesus creates controversy by proclaiming to be living bread come down from heaven. He says that all who eat this living bread shall live forever.

2017 FAITH Catholic-Publishing and Communications

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE MOST HO-

LY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

The Scriptures today remind us that “we, many though we are, are one body for we all partake of the one loaf.” How are we using our gifts of time and talent to build up the body of Christ?

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parishioners who contributed to this year’s Catholic Ministries Appeal. We have reached our goal! Because we have made our goal, we will re-ceive a rebate which will be used for the continued maintenance of our parish plant. Thank you once again to all who supported this important endeav-or.

Please take a moment to look at the retaining wall in the parking lot. You may recall that Johnny Ale-xandro and his Eagle Scout Troop and family, re-painted the wall and planted the foliage. The flow-ers and shrubs are in full bloom and have en-hanced the church property.

FATHER’S DAY

Today is Father’s Day. Spiritual Bouquet Mass Cards are available in the church. If you wish to have someone remembered in the Father’s Day Novena, please place the envelope with the names of your loved ones in the collection basket or deliv-er it to the Church Office. The envelopes with the names of those to be remembered in the novena will be placed on the altar.

VIRTUS TRAINING-PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!

Virtus is a program that gives us a specific plan in identifying and preventing child sexual abuse. The training is required of all diocesan personnel and vol-unteers in all parishes.

If you are a volunteer and still need to fulfill this obli-gation check the Long Island Catholic or the Diocesan website, www.drvc.org for training sessions available in the area. Please register for the class online or stop in the Church office.

Summer, for children, often means more unstruc-tured time and maybe less supervision. Don’t fall into the trap of letting social media and the internet be-come your child’s connection for peer interactions. Commonsensemedia.org offers suggestions for safe on-line apps for children of all ages and tips for par-ents concerned about their children’s internet use.

The Office for the Protection of Children and Young People maintains a confidential phone line: 516 594-9063. We are available to help you or anyone who has been abused or victimized by someone representing the Catholic Church. All calls are responded to within 24 hours.

DOMINICAN SISTERS BAKE SALE

The Dominican Sisters will be here once again this weekend to sell their bread, brownies and apple and blueberry pies after all masses. These are all baked according to the Dominican Sisters recipes. The pro-ceeds from the sale will be used to buy medical sup-plies for their mission to support the lepers. Your support of their ministry is greatly appreciated.

ALTAR BREAD, ROSE FOR LIFE & SANCTUARY

CANDLE

If you wish to donate the bread and wine for the week’s Sunday and daily Eucharist celebrations, the offering is $50. Opportunities to donate a Rose for Life are also available. The offering is $5 per week. The sanctuary candle is available for memorialization. The offering is $15.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

We will once again have a Religious Education free tuition raffle. All families that submit their full pay-ment by Friday, June 23, 2017 will be entered to win. Please note that sacramental fees are not included in the raffle. All payments of outstanding fees will also be appreciated.

Calling All Would-Be Catechists:
