OUR LADY OF GRACE
NEWSLETTER
Welcome back to term 4, I hope you all managed to have some relaxing
time with your children over the break. A break from routine is always
welcomed!
Term 4 is always extremely busy and we have certainly hit the ground
running this week. On Tuesday, all teaching staff spent time working with
Mark Treadwell. This concludes our formal work with Mark that has
spanned 3 years at Our Lady of Grace School. During this time of
professional learning, we have explored the future of learning, learner
identities, competencies, ways to deepen planning for effective learning
and working through the learning process. Although our formal work with
Mark has concluded, the learning continues and next year the
competencies will be reported on in your child’s school report.
SPRING FAIR
The Spring Fair Committee have also been very busy in organising the
Fair next Sunday. Remember to bring along all you family, friends,
neighbours, etc. All funds raised go directly to your children’s education.
This year, the Parents and Friends committee are committing funds to
purchasing decodable readers throughout the school to enhance our
focus on phonics based literacy. Thank you, in advance. For the
amazing work the committee have put in so far. We look forward to a
wonderful day next Sunday.
FUTURE PLANNING AT OUR LADY OF GRACE SCHOOL
We are currently looking at a new Strategic Plan for Our Lady of Grace
School (2018-2021). To this date, I have met with school staff and
members of the school board to review our current plan and to start
setting directions for the next 3 years. Please see the invitation below for
all current parents/carers to have some input into this process and setting
of direction for the coming years.

STAFFING
We would like to extend our congratulations to
Amanda Walker and Sharnie Jamison, who have both
gained new positions commencing in 2018.
Amanda has won a position as Deputy Principal at
Kidman Park Primary School and Sharnie has won a
permanent teaching position at Glenelg Primary
School. Although we are sad to see them leave our
community, we congratulate them for winning their
new positions and thank them for their commitment
over the years to all children at Our Lady of Grace
School. We value their leadership and we take
forward their learning and innovations into the future.
We aim to announce our staffing/teaching teams for
2018 later this term.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION LEARNING STATEMENT
In our last newsletter, I shared how we are enlivening
the Catholic Education SA Learning Statement at Our
Lady of Grace School.
We value you as a capable and competent learner
and will support your active engagement in the
learning process.
Learner competencies are a key part of our
understanding of your child and our vision of
education at Our Lady of Grace School. Our school
vision states, “…we build learners who work together
in Christ-Like ways”. Our focus is on the learner, that is
the person and their unique qualities. We know ‘one
size does not fit all’ for our learners and work with
learners in setting their own goals for learning. All
learners spend time on actually learning how they
learn…they work through understanding the learning
process of being in the ‘learning pit’. The work with
Mark Treadwell over the past years has focussed
directly on building learning competencies and
capabilities and this has resulted in OLOG developing
our own learner competencies and identities:
• Questioning
• Connecting
• Thinking
• Reflecting
• Persisting
Each learner is capable and competent and I have
the privilege of working closely with our teachers in
developing and reviewing Individual Education Plans
for learners who have special needs. These plans
recognise the strengths of the learner and explore
strategies and support to overcome challenges.
All learners at Our Lady of Grace have the chance to
explore their learning in a variety of ways, recognizing
the different learning styles and preferences, as well as
challenging each learner to extend and enrich
learning.
From the Principal Cont.
SAFETY REMINDER
As we begin the term and as the weather warms up,
more children and families may be walking/riding to
and from school. The following is a reminder
regarding safety…
Students and families are reminded to be wary of
approaches from strangers, especially when they
are unaccompanied or travelling to and from
school. If they are approached students should not
respond and should not accept offers of rides or
gifts.
Students should seek the assistance of other nearby
adults if they feel unsafe and should report the
event to a trusted adult (parent or school staff
member) as soon as possible.
SAPOL advises that taking out a mobile phone and
calling police can deter the offender and they
recommend the student making a formal report to
their closest police station.
Thank you for you continued support,
Kelly Campbell

CATHERINE HOUSE Thank you to all those who donated Money and
items for Catherine House. I would like to especially
thank the SRC's for their promotion of this very
important fundraising. We were also able to raise
almost $300 for them to spend on necessities.
OCTOBER – MONTH OF THE ROSARY
October 7th is The Feast of the Holy Rosary. St
Dominic had a special love for the Rosary as it was
said that it was handed down to him by the Virgin
Mary in 1208 AD as a way to help convert
others. There are 4 sets of prayers called Mysteries
which focus on some aspect of Christ’s life, death,
resurrection, and glory.
The Rosary is a verbal prayer used as a way to
meditate on the life of Jesus and Mary. Below is a
simplified version that can be used by all children. If
you would like more information on the Rosary I
have included some additional links.

Contractions When we contract a word we
change two words into one, eg it is
into it’s. When we contract a word
we change two words into one, eg

Rule: You never change the first
word. You take the vowel out of the
second word and anything before it
and put an apostrophe in its place.
If there are two vowels in the second
word you only take out the first
vowel.
Is = ‘s
Am = ‘m
Are = ‘re
Have = ‘ve
Will = ‘ll

exceptions!
