WORDS FROM OUR SHEPHERD! I can’t believe that I have been here at OLOG for a whole year. At times it seems like only yesterday I started. I would like to thank you for your help, prayers and sup-port this first year and be assured that you good people are in my daily prayers. Just a few updates of things that are going on here at OLOG: The windows in the cupola are scheduled to be replaced beginning on May 28th. This project should last about a week and a half, weather permitting. Daily Mass on June 3, 4 & 7 will be held in the hall. There will be no Eucharistic Adoration on June 3-4. The roof replacement is tentatively scheduled for the middle of June. Again daily Mass will be held in the hall with no Eucharistic Adoration. Absolute Roofing from Medina was awarded the contract. For both of these projects some of our parking spaces and areas close to the church will be roped off. Please be patient while this work is going on. Lastly, the majority of the votes for the sign were for sign #5. In fact the total number of votes for signs #1-4 did not equal the total votes for #5. This sign had the blue background with gold lettering. I will keep you updated as things progress. Thank you for your pledges and contributions for our Capital Campaign. A little over $200,000 has been pledged as of this week. Last Saturday I forgot the Mother’s Day Blessing at the end of the 4pm Mass. My sincere apology for this oversight. I remembered I forgot the Blessing as I was driving to St. Albert the Great to preside at their 5:30pm Mass. I will be working on some safeguards to try to not let this happen again. Have a Blessed Week! Fr. Bill

FAMILY PERSPECTIVES “As I have loved you, so you should also love one another.” What you do in your family to create a community of love...is critical, not only for you but for the strength of society and our church. It is a participation in the work of the Lord, a sharing in the mission of the Church. It is holy.” A high calling indeed! The everyday actions and interactions of family members are one of the main ways Christ acts in the world. Families, be true to your calling! Ask the Holy Spirit for help in being families who love one another.

WALK IN FAITH. GIVE IN JOY. This weekend, we participate in an important Follow-up Parish Appeal for Catholic Charities. This is not a special collection; rather it is a chance for all Catholics to make a commitment to Walk in Faith and Give in Joy by sharing the gifts which God has given you. Funds raised through this effort will be invested in improving the camp experience for campers with disabilities. With your help, Catholic Charities will be able to support more campers with disabilities and enhance their experience once they arrive at Camp Christopher and find God in nature. Double your impact! All new, increased and additional gifts return in the In-Pew envelopes this weekend or donated online at www.CatholicCommunity.org/Camp will be matched up to $100,000. We hope you see the benefits that camp can have on those with special needs. Prayerfully consider the impact you can have on all who attend Camp Christopher, and please give as generously as possible. Contact Karen Joyce at 216-696-6525 x1910. Thank you for making a difference.

OUR FRIENDS THE SAINTS St. Bede the Venerable— The first person to date events with “A.D.” (Anno Domini—the year of the Lord) was Bede the Venerable. Born in Jarrow, England in 673 A.D., Bede was sent at a very early age to study at the Benedictine Monastery of SS Peter and Paul. There under the saintly Abbots St. Benedict Biscop and Ceolfrid, Bede received an education in philosophy, Church history, astronomy, arithmetic, grammar, the lives of the saints and Sacred Scripture. Besides excelling in his studies, Bede lived a life of devotion to God and at the age of 19 was ordained a deacon by Ceolfrid. Eleven years later Bede was ordained a priest. Most important in Bede’s life was prayer, fasting and love of neighbor which he demonstrated by Benedictine hospitality to those whose visited him and sought his guidance. Bede celebrated daily Mass for his Benedictine community and also worked at farming, baking, and other chores around the monastery. Asked to be the abbot of his monastery, Bede declined in favor of writing and teaching hundreds of students at the monastery. He lived his entire life at the monastery except for a few months when he left to teach at the school of the archbishop of York. He even declined an invitation to come to Rome by Pope Sergius. Bede wrote 45 books including 30 commentaries on the books of the Bible. In 731 he completed a history of Christianity in England up to 729 which became a primary source of English history. Bede, who was one of the last Western Christian writers to be named a Church Father, died on the vigil of the Ascension on May 25th, 735 while praying, “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As in the beginning, so now, and forever.” Pope Leo XIII declared him a Doctor of the Church in 1899. His memorial is May 25.
