1ST SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 1, 2019

COMIENZA EL TIEMPO DE LA ESPERANZA

La llegada definitiva del Señor está por realizarse.

Ante esta realidad no podemos vivir como si nada pasara,

sino trabajando para que llegue el tiempo de paz y de

bienestar, tiempo donde la justicia brille por la fuerza de su

misma realidad.

La actitud de los hijos de Dios es la esperanza y no

el temor, la vigilancia y no el embotamiento de los

sentidos. Es importante vivir un proceso radical de

conversión personal que consiste en la liberación de las

esclavitudes. Los vicios, los desenfrenos, las envidias son

sólo algunos de los factores que generan los malos deseos

que reinan en nuestro corazón y en el mundo. De esto sólo

es posible liberarnos reaccionando con energía contra la

inconsciencia y la irresponsabilidad, para pasar a vivir de

una manera ordenada y sobria, dando sentido a la

existencia. No podemos vivir sin esperanza, pues ésta

constituye la parte fundamental de la fe.

Como contrapartida a la esperanza del hombre

aparecen la indiferencia y el relativismo que caracterizaron

a las personas del tiempo de Noé, y que siguen actuando

hoy bajo la premisa del consumismo y el materialismo que

nos ofrecen una felicidad efímera e intrascendente. Pero los

cristianos sabemos bien que la plenitud del hombre está

sólo en Dios, y que la única esperanza que no defrauda es

Jesucristo.

Una espera vigilante, paciente y activa es la

recomendación del Evangelio de hoy. Pues el encuentro es

con una persona, Cristo, de quien nace una intensa

experiencia de amor que libera y orienta hacia sus caminos,

haciendo de cada uno de nosotros peregrinos de justicia y

esperanza y de nuestras comunidades "el monte del Señor,

la casa de los hijos de Dios"

¿Cómo nos preparamos para esperar al Señor que

viene a traernos la paz y la justicia? ¿Hacemos de nuestra

vida un lugar donde aflora la esperanza?

Concédenos, Señor Dios nuestro, permanecer

alerta a la venida de tu Hijo, para que cuando llegue y nos

llame a la puerta nos encuentre velando en oración. Amén.

THE TIME OF HOPE BEGINS

The definitive arrival of the Lord is about to take

place. Before this reality we can not live as if nothing

happened, we should be looking forwards to a the time of

peace and well-being, a time where justice shines through

the force of its very reality.

The attitude of the children of God is hope and not

fear, vigilance and not the numbness of the senses. It is

important to live a radical process of personal conversion

that consists in the liberation of slavery. The bad habits,

desires, envy are only some of the factors that generate the

bad desires that reign in our heart and in the world. From

this we can only free ourselves by reacting energetically

against unconsciousness and irresponsibility, to live in an

orderly and sober way, giving meaning to existence. We

can not live without hope, for this is the fundamental part

of faith.

As a counterpart to the hope of man appear the

indifference and relativism that characterized the people of

the time of Noah, and who continue to act today under the

premise of consumerism and materialism that offer us an

temporary and inconsequential happiness. But we

Christians know well that the fullness of man is only in

God, and that the only hope that does not disappoint is

Jesus Christ.

A vigilant, patient and active waiting is the

recommendation of today's Gospel. For the encounter is

with a person, Christ, from whom is born an intense

experience of love that liberates and guides their paths,

making each of us pilgrims of justice and hope and of our

communities "the Mount of the Lord, the house of the

children of God"

How do we prepare to wait for the Lord who comes to

bring us peace and justice? Do we make our lives a place

where hope grows?

Grant us, O Lord our God, to be alert to the coming of

your Son, so that when he comes and knocks at the door he

finds us watching in prayer. Amen.

PRIMER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO DICIEMBRE 1, 2019

ADVENT WREATH

Wreaths symbolize eternity because they are in circular form,

without a beginning or an end, so to speak. Before Christ came

wreaths had long been in use, as symbols of fertility, victory,

and the like. The first Christians kept the habit of adornment

with wreaths but with more significance than ever, as various

kinds came to represent the various aspects of the Christian life

and the life of Our Lord and His Mother: Bay for the Passion of

Christ, not just for mourning as before, the evergreen for

eternity because it lasts so long without withering [fidelity and

God unchanging], the holly and ivy and the Passion, but used at

Christmas time, and the pomegranate, as seen above, which

symbolizes the Church, because of the fruits almost countless

seeds, and for the hope we place in the Resurrection. A special

form of wreath is the Advent Wreath, lit each evening by a

designated member of the family.

The wreath is very simple in design and readily assembled. All

you need for materials are evergreen swigs, whatever variety

you have available, usually fir or spruce, a 4-candle holder in a

wreath shape, and 4 candles, 3 of purple and 1 of rose or pink, 1

each for the four weeks of Advent. The holder can be placed in

a shallow platter containing some water. Place the candles in the

holder securely, then drape the boughs of fir around the holder,

twining and interlacing them. The water should be only enough

to keep the underside of the greens fresh. The wreath should be

placed on a suitable table set aside for this purpose and which

has been draped with a pretty cloth, usually white, lace of plain.

This all there is to the assembly. Advent is a season penance,

but we live in a celebratory culture where the Christmas

festivities begin almost Thanksgiving evening. Since traditional

Catholics generally do not put up the family tree until just

before Christmas, they sometimes add some decoration to the

wreath in Advent colors, which are purple for penance and rose-

pink for the third week, which begins with Gaudete Sunday,

when flowers are permitted on the altar, for this once during

Advent. The spirit of penance during Advent is not the same as

that for Lent and some joy is permitted. Gaudete means

"rejoice" and takes its name from the first word of the Introit for

that Sunday. There is but one week to go and soon the King's

birthday shall arrive. These decorations may be little colored

balls, ribbons or berries.

¿QUÉ SIGNIFICA LA CORONA DE ADVIENTO?

Cerca del tiempo de Adviento, periodo de cuatro semanas de

espera activa y de preparación para celebrar la Navidad, el P.

Samuel Bonilla, conocido en redes sociales como el “Padre

Sam”, comentó en su página el significado detrás de la Corona de

Adviento, uno de los símbolos más representativos de este tiempo

litúrgico.

1.- La forma circular

El P. Sam señala que la forma circular de la corona, sin un inicio

ni un final, hace referencia al “amor de Dios que es eterno, sin

principio y sin fin, y también de nuestro amor a Dios y al prójimo

que nunca debe de terminar”.

2.- Las ramas verdes

“Dios quiere que esperemos su gracia, el perdón de los pecados y

la gloria eterna al final de nuestras vidas”, señala el sacerdote, al

referirse al color verde, que representa la esperanza y vida. “El

anhelo más importante en nuestras vidas debe ser llegar a una

unión más estrecha con Dios, nuestro Padre”, agregó.

3.- Las cuatro velas

La Corona de Adviento tiene tres velas moradas y una rosada,

que “nos hacen pensar en la obscuridad provocada por el pecado

que ciega al hombre y lo aleja de Dios”.

Estas velas representan los cuatro domingos de los que se

compone el Tiempo de Adviento, las tres primeras de color

morado se encienden el primer, segundo y cuarto domingo de

Adviento, mientras que la rosada se enciende el tercer domingo

de Adviento, conocido como el domingo Gaudete.

4.- Las manzanas rojas que adornan la corona

En algunos lugares se colocan frutos o manzanas rojas para

adornar la Corona de Adviento. El Padre Sam señaló que es una

representación de “los frutos del jardín del Edén con Adán y Eva

que trajeron el pecado al mundo, pero recibieron también la

promesa del Salvador Universal”.

Además, indicó que las campanas pueden ser otro adorno, “que

representan la espera activa del cristiano a la venida de Nuestro

Señor”.

5.- El listón rojo

Algunas coronas cuentan con un listón rojo que “representa

nuestro amor a Dios y el amor de Dios que nos envuelve”.

“Cada acción, gesto y símbolo dentro de la Iglesia Católica, tiene

su razón de ser, tiene su significado. Saberlo, nos ayuda a vivir

mejor lo que celebramos”, concluye el sacerdote.

Proclama mi alma la grandeza del Señor, se

alegra mi espíritu en Dios mi Salvador, porque

ha mirado la humillación de su esclava.

Desde ahora me felicitarán todas las

generaciones porque el Poderoso ha hecho

obras grandes por mí. Su nombre es Santo y su

misericordia llega a sus fieles de generación en

generación.

Él hace proezas con su brazo, dispersa a los

soberbios de corazón. Derriba del trono a los

poderosos y enaltece a los humildes. A los

hambrientos los colma de bienes y a los ricos

despide vacíos.

Auxilia a Israel su siervo, acordándose de su

santa alianza según lo había prometido a

nuestros padres en favor de Abrahán y su

descendencia por siempre.
