LIVING AS STEWARDS “Jesus said to the crowd, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life….” We can hardly blame the crowd for their shock at this statement — eating the Flesh and drinking the Blood of our Lord should cause us a bit of a shock. Yet how easy it is to show up at Mass Sunday after Sunday, receiving the Eucharist as simply part of a weekly routine. If we really spent time contemplating the gift our Lord is offering us in this sacrament, we would be awestruck at the love and power in this gift. Through it, our Lord is giving us the very best He has to give — Himself. Not even the greatest theological scholar or the holiest of saints can fully understand this mystery.

Thankfully we don’t need to be a saint or a scholar to receive this gift. But we should do our best to receive the Eucharist with gratitude. And we can look to today’s readings to glean two fundamental principles for becoming better Christian stewards.

The Eucharist is the foundation for a stewardship way of life. Through His gift of the Eucharist, God fills us with His love and strength. This love and strength empower us to live as generous stewards — to be faithful to the ministries we serve in, joyful in material giving, and offer our very best to our families and secular work.

The Eucharist is the ultimate inspiration for a stewardship way of life. When we contemplate this gift of God, we will want to make a joyful return to Him. Mass will become anything but routine and we will live each day as His passionate disciples.

One of my earliest memories as a child is the golden anniversary celebration of my grandparents. In honor of this milestone of 50 years of marriage, we had a family reunion of the “extended family”. People from all over the country came to honor my grandparents. There were familiar people attending that I didn’t even know I was related to. The celebration was so large that the only place in town big enough to hold everyone was the parish school gym. The space was decorated in white and gold in honor of the celebration. There were pictures and mementos on a table that reflected my grandparent’s journey of forming and raising a family together and the various jobs my grandfather performed to support their family. It was the first time I had the luxury of drinking multiple bottles of “pop”; and all the desserts I wanted. It was a treat to be able to play with cousins that I hadn’t seen for a significant span of my short life. As I moved about in that experience of people sharing stories and being happy to see each other again, my subconscious self was absorbed in the gift of belonging. I didn’t analyze it at the time, but I was immersed in tangible experiences of love, of family, of being a part of something bigger than myself.

Each week when we gather for the celebration of mass, we come to honor the creator of the universe into whose extended family we have been adopted through baptism. We find a space adorned with flowers and colors to reflect the season or feast being celebrated. Sometimes we experience the joy of having people return after spending time away. We share stories of our own as well as stories of our heavenly Father’s love for us from the dawn of creation. Images throughout the church demonstrate key events in the redemptive story in which God intervened in our human existence. As we move through the sacrifice of the mass, we are joined with the heavenly hosts in celebrating the feast of the Lamb of God, the Bread of Life; food that in spiritual realities, far surpasses the delights of any food I could ever imagine from my earliest years to now. We find God’s most palpable avenue of grace in the Eucharist. Common ingredients of wheat and wine are transformed into the life giving, glorified body and blood of Christ. Let us enter the celebration immersed in a tangible experience of love, of family, of being a part of something bigger than ourselves. Peace in Christ, Phil Arkfeld

Reflexión de la Corresponsabilidad

"Jesu s dijo a la multitud:" El que come mi

carne y bebe mi sangre tiene vida

eterna ... ". Difí cilmente podemos culpar a

Sangre de nuestro Sen or deberí a

regalo.

corresponsabilidad.

Page 8: Our Lady of Fatima Catholic ChurchOne of my earliest memories as a child is the golden anniversary celebration of my grandparents. In honor of this milestone of 50 years of marriage,

2018-2019 Sponsor A Student Program

Parishioner generosity, in the past, has gifted ten children from military families the possibility of a Catholic education. This program directly impacts families and students who otherwise would find it difficult, if not impossible, to afford a Catholic education. Your donation will also allow our school to provide a greater amount of educational support for all students. We endeavor to accept students and families regardless of their financial need. Your tax-deductible contribution will enable more families in our parish and local community to benefit from OLF's high-quality, Christian-value education. Through your generosity, you are able to personally foster and make an impact on a desirable education for children at Our Lady of Fatima Academy. Please look for the "Sponsor A Student" pamphlets at the back counters and side door exits. Thank you so very much!
