INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioners, Happy Easter! Easter comes from an Old English word that refers to the month of April which is the time of spring. Spring is that season of the year when plants begin to grow, spring up, rise. The word “east” is in the word Easter and is the direction from which we see the sun rising as well. This is the time of year in which the Church celebrates Easter which is the celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord. The surge of life taking place in the world of nature compliments our profession of what God offers to us on the supernatural level. We are happy because God will one day raise up those who follow him to everlasting life. We sing Alleluia! This word is used in the psalms and it means praise Yahweh. We can say alleluia because of the mercy, goodness, power and love of God who came in the person of Jesus to save us. It is because of the Lord that we can exclaim “Happy Easter!” It is because of the redemptive work of Je-sus in our lives that we can sing “Alleluia!” For this reason each Easter we look forward to letting God work in a special way in our lives. We look forward to being raised in our life in Christ. I thank God for the witness of the RCIA neophytes. They are those who have received sacraments for the first time at the Easter Vigil Mass because of the call and grace of the Lord active in their lives. I thank God for all the people that come to church on this special solemnity, whether they are visitors or Catholics who only oc-casionally come to church. They are signs of Jesus’ invitation and call to us to greater and closer union to him. I most especially thank God for all who come to Mass each Sunday and for those who support the church with their time, talent and treasure. Your faith is evidence of Christ alive should be celebrated every waking day. Let us ask the Lord to help us blossom in the new life that he wants to give us today and each day. Let each of our lives be a testimony to the reality Easter Resurrection that Jesus calls everyone in the world to come to know and live.

PROCLAMA AL CRISTO RESUCITADO   En la mañana de Pascua el clima primaveral, las flores, los pájaros y las mariposas, las personas que nos rodean con sus mejores galas, la hermosa liturgia y la agradable música, todo parece dar tes monio de que Jesucristo ha resucitado hoy. De la misma manera que los relatos de los tes gos en la lectura de hoy, la vida gloriosa y gozosa que nos rodea nos ayuda a creer en la buena nueva de la Resurrección y exclamar “¡Aleluya!”    Hoy en la Sagrada Escritura escuchamos a Pedro, a Pablo y a Juan quienes hablan con convicción de ha-ber visto al Cristo resucitado. El relato del Evangelio según san Juan incluye a María Magdalena, quien tam-bién tuvo el privilegio de ser tes go de la Resurrección y contarles a los demás la buena nueva. En este glo-rioso Domingo de Pascua, ¿podemos nosotros también dar tes monio de que Jesucristo ha resucitado hoy y está vivo y ac vo en nuestra vida? 

PROCLAIM THE RISEN CHRIST   On Easter morning everything—the spring weather, the flowers, birds and bu erflies, the people around us in their finery, the beau ful liturgy and music—everything seems to bear witness that Jesus Christ is risen today! Like the eyewitness accounts in today’s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrec on and sing “Alleluia!”  In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with convic on about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John’s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was priv-ileged to witness the Resurrec on and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and ac ve in our lives? 

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO

Queridos Feligreses: Happy Easter! es una expresión en inglés que significa ¡Felices Pascuas! Easter viene de una palabra antigua que hace referencia al mes de abril que es tiempo de primavera. La primavera es la época del año en que las plantas comienzan a crecer, brotar y levantarse. La palabra "este" está en la palabra Easter y es la dirección desde la cual también vemos salir el sol. Esta es la época del año en que la Iglesia celebra la Pascua, que es la celebración de la Resurrección del Señor. La oleada de vida que tiene lugar en el mundo de la naturaleza complementa nuestra profesión de lo que Dios nos ofrece en el nivel sobrenatural. Estamos felices porque un día Dios levantará a aquellos que lo siguen a la vida eterna. ¡Cantamos Aleluya! Esta palabra se usa en los salmos y significa alabanza a Yahveh. Podemos decir aleluya por la misericordia, la bondad, el poder y el amor de Dios que vino en la persona de Jesús para salvarnos. Es por el Señor que podemos exclamar "¡Felices Pascuas!" Es por la obra re-dentora de Jesús en nuestras vidas que podemos cantar "¡Aleluya!" Por esta razón, cada Pascua es-peramos dejar trabajar a Dios de una manera especial en nuestras vidas. Esperamos con ansias ser elevados en nuestra vida en Cristo. Doy gracias a Dios por el testimonio de los neófitos de RICA. Ellos son los que han recibido los sacramentos por primera vez en la Misa de la Vigilia Pascual debi-do a la llamada y la gracia del Señor activa en sus vidas. Doy gracias a Dios por todas las personas que asisten a la iglesia en esta solemnidad especial, ya sean visitantes o católicos que solo vienen ocasionalmente a la iglesia. Son signos de la invitación de Jesús y nos llaman a una unión más grande y más cercana a él. Doy gracias especialmente a Dios por todos los que asisten a Misa cada domingo y por los que apoyan a la iglesia con su tiempo, talento y tesoro. Su fe es evidencia de que Cristo vivo debe celebrarse cada día de vigilia. Pidamos al Señor que nos ayude a florecer en la nue-va vida que él quiere darnos hoy y todos los días. Dejemos que cada una de nuestras vidas sea un testimonio de la realidad de la Resurrección de Pascua que Jesús llama a todos en el mundo a conocer y vivir.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Pascua viene de una palabra hebrea pesah que quiere decir “lugar de pastos” e indica el final de un perio-do de ayuno. La Pascua Judía celebra la libertad del cautiverio de Egipto. El cristianismo, siendo en su origen una secta judía, tomo la fiesta de la Pascua para celebrar la muerte y resurrección de Jesús quien nos da la libertad del cautiverio pecaminoso de nuestras vidas. Eventualmente el uso de “Pascua” pasó a indicar cualquier evento en la vida de Jesús que añade a la li-bertad que nos obtuvo en su vida, cruz y resurrección. He aquí porque tradicionalmente se hablaba de la Pas-cua del Nacimiento, la Pascua Florida o Pascua de Resurrección y la Pascua del Espíritu Santo (Pentecostés) y todavía en grandes fiestas religiosas del año la gente se saluda con “Felices pascuas”. En EE. UU., Argentina y otros países se celebra la Pascua (Easter en inglés) con la búsqueda de huevos multicolores y supuestamente traídos por una coneja. Easter era una diosa teutónica cuyos símbolos eran el huevo y la coneja, símbolos de vida y fertilidad que pasaron a representar la nueva vida que se nos da al ser liberados del pecado por la Pascua de Jesús.
