You will see in your parish envelopes that each month

there will be a 50/50. An envelope is provided for

each month. To play the 50/50, please put $5.00 in

the envelope. The drawing will be held at the last

Monday of each month. The winner will win half an

fun way for the parish to raise money.

FEBRUARY 12, 2017 6th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

"Whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will

be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Jesus pre-

sents two paths for us today: we can break his command-

ments or obey them. And the result corresponds to our

choice. If we decide not to follow God's guidelines, we

will not enjoy the fullness of the kingdom of heaven. But

if we choose otherwise, eternity will look much brighter

for us!

Of course, it's easy to know in our minds what the right

choice is. But putting this into practice is another matter.

The commandments Jesus gives in today's Gospel are not

easy to follow. He takes the ancient Ten Commandments

to a deeper level of commitment. He says more than do

not kill. Rather, do not even harbor anger in our hearts.

He says more than do not commit adultery. Rather, do

not even indulge in lustful thoughts. He says more than

do not lie. Rather, do not even swear.

Undoubtedly, Jesus is asking us to chart a challenging

course. But he would not expect us to follow these direc-

tives if it were impossible to do so. And it's important to

bear in mind that Jesus doesn't set high standards to test

or punish us. His love for us is at the root of everything

he teaches us. Following these commandments, challeng-

ing though they may be, will in fact make us happier

people, both now and in eternity! As with so many good

things in life, committed effort on our part is necessary--

whether it be maintaining good health, accomplishing a

certain skill, or earning a sought-after award. So too with

a soul that is truly free. We need to exercise a life of vir-

tue by taking the advice of Jesus Christ, the best life

coach we could ever hope to have.

6º DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

Para enfocarnos en el Evangelio de hoy debemos de

poner atención en las siguientes palabras. Ley, letra,

coma de la ley y antes se acabarán el cielo y la tierra.

La pregunta clave es ¿qué significaba para Jesús el

cumplir la ley? Jesús veía en la ley el cumplimiento

del tiempo (antes se acabarán el cielo y la tierra).

Cuando la ley sea reemplazada por la rectitud y las

buenas relaciones con el Reino de Dios. Es decir,

cuando toda persona tenga la capacidad de no medirse

con leyes humanas sino que se mida con la ley del

corazón que es el amor y la justicia, cambiará todo.

Esto no quita que las leyes y normas humanas que nos

rigen y nos gobiernan sean para el bien común. La ley

fundamental de la que habla Jesús es el regalo de darse

uno mismo a los otros por amor. Las normas y obliga-

ciones sirven para cuidarnos los unos a los otros. Esto

es lo que nos guía a una vida plena. ¡Nuestro modelo

es Jesús!

¿Cómo la sociedad actual puede medirse por la ley del

corazón? ¿Qué nos falta de cambiar para ver a la otra

persona como si fuera yo mismo? Jesús nos lo describe

así. "Por lo tanto, el que quebrante uno de estos pre-

ceptos menores y enseñe eso a los hombres, será el

menor en el Reino de los cielos; pero el que los cumpla

y los enseñe, será grande en el Reino de los cielos" (Mt

5, 19). No se necesita buscar tanto. Tan solo reflex-

ionar en el Evangelio nos clarifica que el dar la vida

por los demás debe ser un hábito de amor diario y el

único camino para entrar en el Reino. ¡Así de simple!

"Han oído ustedes que se dijo a los antiguos: No

matarás y el que mate será llevado ante el tribunal.

Pero yo les digo: Todo el que se enoje con su her-

mano, será llevado también ante el tribunal". - Mt

5, 21-22

SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Mensaje De Nuestro Pastor Aquí está un fino ensayo editado para el espacio de esta columna. Es

más como seres humanos primero, enfatizar más con ellos, dis-

frutar de los entresijos de su personalidad (incluyendo los capri-

chos) y les resultará más fácil olvidarnos de nosotros mismos y

buscar alegría en los mismos.

2. Ir a funerales

No puedo ser divertido y tomar horas y tiempo libre y no saber

dable salida a emociones y que ponen la vida en perspectiva.

3. Vivo para la próxima vida tanto como para esta.

mente si nuestro amor ayuda a otros a hacerlo allí también.

4. Buscar la excelencia.

5. Ser amables

número vergonzosamente significativo de ocasiones cuando es

más fácil cerrar los ojos e ignorar gentes como a un mendigo en

la esquina cerca de mi casa o la señora dulce pero habladora en

la Iglesia cuando

Estoy en un apuro. Pero la gente verdaderamente feliz quiere

compartir su felicidad especialmente con los más necesitados.

6. No permita las emocione a la regla

Las emociones y reacciones son buenas y naturales a los aconte-

cimientos que nos rodean, pero si nos abruman pueden nublar

nuestros juicios A menudo nuestros errores motivan a otros

(incluso a nosotros mismos) y nuestras emociones pueden hacer

sentirnos infelices cuando realmente no lo queremos ser .La feli-

It is by Fr Michael Rennier (from the Aleteia website) and it deals with something that all of us want in life: happiness!

The quest for happiness is a strange one. The minute we focus on

self-fulfillment, it slips away. So often it seems instead that when

we’ve forgotten all about happiness, a look back shows us that

it’s been there all along…. There’s a real difference between

theoretically knowing the path to happiness and putting one foot

in front of the other and walking along it, which is why the spiri-

tual writer Thich Nhat Hanh says, “There is no way to happiness.

Happiness is the way.” Perhaps that has to do with the fact that

happiness isn’t so much a thing to be reached out for and

grabbed, but it is found in letting go and allowing it to surround

us. This means that happiness is found not when we directly seek

it but instead when we do our level best to give it away to each

other. So, with that in mind, here are seven counter-intuitive keys

to a happy life:

1. Think of others first

This is fairly typical advice, but what I mean by it is to think of

others first as people, not When we think of others as human be-

ings first, we empathize with them more, enjoy the intricacies of

their personalities (including the quirks), and find it easier to

forget about ourselves and seek joy in the them.

2. Go to funerals

It might not be fun to take time off and spend and hour not quite

knowing what to say to a grieving family, but beside the fact that

they will appreciate it greatly, funerals are a healthy outlet for

emotions and they put life in perspective.

3. Live for the next life as much as this one

Nothing gained here on earth survives death except our souls.

The more we adorn our souls and beautify them through love, the

more we take with us to heaven—especially if our love helps oth-

ers make it there too.

4. Seek excellence

Every time I think I’ve mastered a good habit, it turns out I can

do even better.

5. Be kind to those who are miserable

This seems obvious, but I notice an embarrassingly significant

number of occasions when it’s easier to drop my eyes and ignore

people, like the beggar on the corner near my house or the really

sweet but talkative lady at Church when I’m in a hurry. But truly

happy people want to share their happiness, especially with those

most in need.

6. Don’t allow emotions to rule you

Emotions are good and natural reactions to events around us, but

if they overwhelm us they can cloud our judgment. We often mis-

take motivations in others (and even ourselves), and our emotions

can cause us to feel unhappy when we really don’t need to be.

Happiness is a deeper state of being than emotions.

7. Find the silver lining

Positivity doesn’t need to be a naive denial of reality. Negativity

is sometimes considered more realistic, but it can be every bit as

wrong as too much positivity. The balance is somewhere in the

middle, the willingness to acknowledge it’s been a bad day, but

also understanding that there is good in every situation… Seek to

accentuate what is excellent instead of dwelling on inadequacies

and you’ll be on the road to true happiness.
