Message from Our Pastor
____________________________
My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes, This weekend is the last of the June trilogy: we have sent our dear Fr. Patrick and Fr. Fernando off with our blessing and love, we have received our dear Bishop Isern with that same blessing and love, and now we get to welcome our dear Fr. Andrew and Fr. Elvis and receive their blessing and love even as we offer them our own. We might think we already know Fr. Andrew and to some extent that is true. Fr. Andrew comes to us from Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School where he has been chaplain for two years. Through his ministry at the high school Fr. Andrew has had the chance to get to know and serve many of our parish families. He also has been generous with us here at the parish and has celebrated Mass and heard Confessions for us throughout his years of chaplaincy. He is a native of Poland who after coming to Miami studied at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary and was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Miami in 2003. We were able to share his joy in becoming an American citizen just this year. Now, we and he will have the chance to get to know each other better and to grow together in Christ. Fr. Elvis comes to us fresh from his ordination day! He was born in Nicaragua, one of ten siblings. His family later moved to Miami and he is a graduate of Coral Park High School, St. John Vianney College Seminary, and St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary. Like all the young, Fr. Elvis knows Miami well and even has been with us here at Our Lady of Lourdes on occasion. It is always a special grace to receive a newly ordained, as while he will minister to and form us in Christ, we also will have a great influence on his developing ministry. It is a blessing for us and also a great responsibility. As I mentioned earlier, God is good and He is particularly good to us. This week we celebrate His goodness in having sent us Fr. Andrew and Fr. Elvis! May God bless them abundantly!

Mensaje de Nuestro Párroco
____________________________

As Part of Our Year of Faith Let’s Continue to Celebrate the Dignity of Human Life
Encyclical Letter “Evangelium Vitae” by the Supreme Pontiff Blessed John Paul II
“Man’s life comes from God; it is his gift, his image and imprint, a sharing in his breath of life. God there-
fore is the sole Lord of this life: man cannot do with it as he wills. God himself makes this clear to Noah
after the Flood: “For your own lifeblood, too, I will demand an accounting…and from man in regard to his
fellow man I will demand an accounting for human life” (Gen 9:5). The biblical text is concerned to
emphasize how sacredness of life has its foundation in God and in his creative activity: “For God made
man in his own image” (Gen 9:6)

Our Lady of Lourdes will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 15 this year (the Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time). The theme for this year is “Open the Door of Faith.” On Catechetical Sunday, we celebrate and commission those teachers and catechists who commit themselves to formal service of helping others to open the door of faith in their lives. While some are specially commissioned for this task, all of us are called, through our Baptism, to some level, of calling others to Christ by helping them see the door to faith that is open to all of us. At the end of Mass, when we are invited to “Go In Peace,” we are actually being sent – very much like the apostles were sent – to open the door of faith to those around us in our daily lives and invite them to come through the door and seek Christ. We do not need to preach this, it is best if we just live in Christ and let others see the joy that comes to those who embrace Him. On Catechetical Sunday we are all called to recognize that we are one with those who take on formal teaching of the faith.

...”...Last year when I asked what financial matter we should focus on as a parish family the overwhelming response was to pay off the long-term debt. Since then we have increased our support of the debt reduction drive a little but really not significantly….I am inviting everyone to join me in signing up to pay $1,700 toward the debt reduction. Faith Direct gives us many ways to structure the automatic payments over time. I am going to pay with regular charges to my credit card and by next year at this time I will have paid off my $1,700 share of our debt. Please give serious consideration to joining me. We all know how debt limits our possibilities and together we can set ourselves free…” (excerpt from Msgr. Schwanger’s column of May 26th)
If everyone made a gift of just $1,000, we would be assured of being able to continue our services to the community.
