Our Lady Help of Christians Parish Primary School (OLHC) commenced in January 1989 with a student enrolment of 104 children across Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two. The official opening took place on Sunday 7th May 1989 by Bishop William Murray and the Minister for Primary Industry, Mr John Kerin. Our school now accommodates approximately 320 students in 15 classrooms, across two streams from Kindergarten to Year 6. Parents, staff, students and the parish community are among the many people who assist in our school development. In 2011 the Australian Government provided funds which saw the administration office extended and refurbished and a multi-purpose hall with amphi-theatre was constructed. The car-park was also extended and Stage 1 classrooms were gutted to make way for flexible learning spaces. The Blessing and Opening of these new facilities took place on 28th June 2011. As a parish school it is intended that OLHC be an integral and vital part of the total parish and wider Church community. The spiritual growth and welfare of the students is carefully integrated with sound general and individual needs based education that is the shared responsibility of the Parish Priest, Principal, staff and parents, under the supportive supervision of both Catholic and Government educational authorities. Our Lady Help of Christians Parish Primary School comes under the general administration and responsibility of the Catholic Education Office of the Diocese of Wollongong, Market Street, Wollongong. Growth in the Macarthur area has been so expansive an office was opened in Allman Street, Campbelltown in 2015. The finance and maintenance of the school is controlled and supervised by the Catholic Education Office of the Diocese of Wollongong, the Parish Priest and the School Principal, all of whom act with the permission and blessing of Bishop Peter Ingham, the Bishop of Wollongong.

God, our Father, We thank you for the gift of your Son,

Our Lord Jesus Christ and the light of the Holy Spirit,

who dwells within us.

Guard over our lives and guide us, in our work and study, recreation and growth; and in all our thoughts, words and actions.

With the gentle and loving help of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Mother in Heaven,

teach us to always seek her wisdom and in our hearts to love You,

today and always.

Amen.

God our Father in heaven, by your grace you have given us all that is good.

Thank you for our Catholic community of faith, love and learning.

As we gather here under the guidance of Mary, our Mother,

help us to seek your wisdom and courage so that we can learn to be more like Jesus, your Son.

May our classrooms be filled with discovery, our playgrounds filled with joy, our futures filled with hope, and

our hearts filled with love. Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us.

Amen.

MottoMottoMottoMotto Our school motto, “Seek Wisdom, Love God” originates from the first reading for the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, Year A. Ecclesiasticus 4: 11-18 “God loves those who love Wisdom”.

CrestCrestCrestCrest The candle and lamp symbolise wisdom and the star is a symbol of God as the source of life and energy. The star is significant in that it symbolises life beyond our earthly human existence. The star is also symbolic in that the “Star of the Sea” is a guide to mariners, when lost or in danger at sea. The final symbol of the light radiating from the candle in the form of a heart is synonymous with the great love God has for His people.

Mission StatementMission StatementMission StatementMission Statement Our Mission at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish School is to be one of ‘God’s Places’. We aim to be a ‘Place of Faith’ modelling ourselves on Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother, Mary. We aim to be a ‘Place of Love’ through inclusion and respect. We aim to be a ‘Place of Learning’ through striving for excellence.

School SongSchool SongSchool SongSchool Song Our school song reflects the values that are at the heart of who we are at OLHC.

Follow MeFollow MeFollow MeFollow Me

Follow me, said Jesus, follow me. If you are seeking wisdom, follow me.

Wisdom comes from knowing that I am with you always.

You will find wisdom if you follow me.

Follow me, said Jesus, follow me. If you are seeking love, follow me.

In my life I loved all people, now you go and do the same.

You will find love if you follow me.

Follow me, said Jesus, follow me. If you are seeking God, follow me. For God is wisdom, God is love, God calls us to open our hearts.

You will find God, if you follow me.

SculptureSculptureSculptureSculpture The sculpture on the Kindergarten wall reflects, in a visual way, our Catholic identity. Money for this sculpture was raised through our Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop Walkathons and was officially dedicated and blessed by Bishop Peter Ingham on 27th February 2007.

MosaicMosaicMosaicMosaic The mosaic was erected to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the school. It is situated on the wall outside the school canteen and is a work of art, to which staff, parents and students contributed their labour and time. It was designed by Wanda Grein and was unveiled and blessed on 22nd May 2015 by Father Christoper Sarkis, Parish Priest.

House ColoursHouse ColoursHouse ColoursHouse Colours Houses are divided by colour and children represent these houses for cross country, athletics, swimming and interschool gatherings. They also earn house points for wearing uniforms correctly, good grooming and following the school rules. At the end of 2008 the house colours were given names.

♦ Ingham (Red) Diocesan: This house is named after the Bishop of the Wollongong diocese, Bishop Peter Ingham.

♦ Sarkis (Blue) Parish: This house is named after Father Christopher Sarkis, Our Lady Help of Christians Parish Priest.

♦ MacKillop (Yellow) Education: This house is named after Mary MacKillop, an original leader of Catholic education.

♦ Rose (Green) Local: A civic leader and conservationist. The Rosemeadow suburb is named after him.

The Learning CentreThe Learning CentreThe Learning CentreThe Learning Centre The Learning Centre (opened in 1994) caters for the needs of students who are intellectually disabled. Enrolment for a position in the Learning Centre is conducted in conjunction with the Principal, Parish Priest, Learning Centre Teacher and the Senior Learning Officer – Special Education for the Diocese of Wollongong. The students receive instruction in English and Mathematics in the Learning Centre and are integrated into mainstream classes for all other primary curriculum subjects.

SacramentsSacramentsSacramentsSacraments At Our Lady Help of Christians Church, any baptised child in Year 3 or above at the Parish Primary School, or at a State School, has the right to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation (Sacrament of First Confession or Sacrament of Penance) and First Holy Communion. Any child in Year 6 or above has the right to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Notification of enrolment dates for all sacramental programmes are provided through the parish bulletin and school newsletter.

StewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardship Stewardship is a spirituality – a way of life – which calls for our response by receiving the gifts of God with gratitude, cultivating them responsibly, sharing them generously in justice with others and returning the gifts with increase to God. Stewardship challenges us to act differently in how we use our gifts of time, talent and treasure to benefit others.

Pastoral CarePastoral CarePastoral CarePastoral Care Pastoral Care permeates the total climate of relationships within the community of OLHC. It has the individual as its focus and reflects the support, encouragement and care shown and experienced in the ethos of our Gospel based community. A School Counsellor and Pastoral Care Co-ordinator are available for students and parents. The Principal and your child’s teacher add to this support network.

Page 5: Our Lady Help of Christians 80 Demetrius Road, ROSEMEADOW

School CounsellorSchool CounsellorSchool CounsellorSchool Counsellor The Catholic welfare organisation, CatholicCare, provides counselling services for students who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural problems. Arrangements may be made, in consultation with the Pastoral Care Co-ordinator and/or School Principal, for children to access this service. The service includes weekly visits to the school and meetings with family members.

Expectations from StudentsExpectations from StudentsExpectations from StudentsExpectations from Students OLHC is a happy, safe and stimulating school. To ensure that every student at OLHC is able to learn effectively and enjoy school, all students will comply with the school rules. They apply from the time a student departs for school until they arrive home from school, and to all school activities, at all times. Each student is encouraged to follow the example of Jesus by contributing to the school community.

The school rules are: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be an Active Learner.

Merit and Principal’s AwardsMerit and Principal’s AwardsMerit and Principal’s AwardsMerit and Principal’s Awards Students can be given merit awards in the three school rule areas (Being Safe, Being Respectful, Being an Active Learner) by any staff member. These achievements are recorded on a database (which allows us to map a child’s achievements throughout their time at school). When three merit awards have been received, the student is eligible for a Principal’s Award. Awards are presented at fortnightly assemblies. It is not possible for

every student to receive a Principal’s Award in a given year; however, the records roll over each year, thus ensuring a fair and equitable process for all students.

To support the development of positive behaviours on the playground, a reward system is currently in place where students have the chance of having their name written on a raffle ticket for being safe, being respectful or being an active learner. Two student raffle tickets are drawn at flag-raising each week. The winning students are presented with a $2.00 canteen voucher.

Behaviour ManagementBehaviour ManagementBehaviour ManagementBehaviour Management————SchoolSchoolSchoolSchool----wide Positive Behaviour for Learning (SPB4L)wide Positive Behaviour for Learning (SPB4L)wide Positive Behaviour for Learning (SPB4L)wide Positive Behaviour for Learning (SPB4L) This is a whole-school framework which helps schools create positive learning environments. This is achieved by developing proactive systems to define, teach and support appropriate student behaviours. With an emphasis on data-based decision-making, the framework is evaluated regularly and practices adjusted to make sure the process is achieving effective results for the school.

Excellence AwardsExcellence AwardsExcellence AwardsExcellence Awards Established in 2011, these awards are presented once per year to students who have shown excellence in any curriculum area (Academic Excellence) or who have excelled in the giving of their time and talent in the school, parish or wider community (Excellence in Stewardship). Nominations are submitted by staff and the final decision on the recipients are made by the leadership team. A special assembly is conducted to present these awards and a guest speaker gives a motivational oration on their excellence journey.

Year 6 Award WinnersYear 6 Award WinnersYear 6 Award WinnersYear 6 Award Winners There are three awards presented to selected Year 6 students at the end of the year. ♦ Principal’s Award: This award is given to the student who does the very best that they can with the

gifts they have been given. They do not need to be the best in any area, but the student always gives 100% in all aspects of school life and performs to the best of their ability in all areas.

♦ Mary MacKillop Award: This award is given to the student who best lives out Mary’s saying—”Never see a need without doing something about it”. This person goes out of their way to speak up for others, joins groups needing another person and is inclusive of all, regardless of friendships. They are helpful to all around them and a kind person.

♦ Excellence Award: Excellence can be in the areas of academic, artistic or sport. The student needs to perform excellently, not just understand it, show modesty about their talent, does not make others feel inferior and shows good sporting spirit. This student allows others in the class to learn and is not disruptive.

PunctualityPunctualityPunctualityPunctuality Children should be punctual each day. It is very disruptive to class routine having children coming late to class. Children arriving late for class must be accompanied by an adult to the office, where the adult needs to lodge the lateness to school on the “Late Arrival” register. The student is given a “student late” pass which they take to the classroom. This written record is a legal requirement for the class rolls.

Early Leaving: Parents who need to sign their child/ren out early must do so from the office, prior to collecting their child/ren, as legislation requires a student of school age to carry a school pass that approves their absence. Students cannot be signed out from the office after 2.30pm. Parents must wait for the dismissal bell to collect their children. Consistent late-coming: Parents of students who consistently arrive late will be approached by the classroom teacher for an explanation and a request to be on time. If late-coming persists, the matter will be referred to the Principal or Assistant Principal. Absences: If children are not able to attend school, parents are legally required to provide a written note explaining details of the absence. This should be supplied via the Skoolbag App or given to the class teacher on resumption to school. Parents are asked to telephone the office to notify of a child’s absence of three days or more. In the event of a scheduled absence of ten days or less, eg. For a holiday, a letter needs to be forwarded to the Principal for approval. In the case of an absence of ten days or more, parents will need to come to the office to pick up an “application for leave” form and return it for the Principal’s approval before the event.

Before and After School ProceduresBefore and After School ProceduresBefore and After School ProceduresBefore and After School Procedures Parents are asked not to congregate around classrooms in the morning or afternoon as independence of the children is encouraged and this also hinders students leaving to catch buses in the afternoon.

We ask parents to say goodbye to their children at the pathway and allow them to put their bags outside their classrooms on their own. This is particularly important in assisting with the transition of Kindergarten children to school.

ANAPHYLAXIS (Extreme allergies)

Due to an increasing number of children in the school with peanut allergies, no products containing peanuts will be sold through the canteen eg. peanut butter, nutella. Parents are also

asked not to send their child to school with any products that contain peanuts for their child’s lunch or recess. This includes muesli type bars and this request is extended to gala days, sporting

carnivals and excursions.

Some children also have an allergy to seafood products. If you pack salmon, tuna or other seafood products in your child’s lunch, please have your child inform the class teacher so that the necessary

precautions can be put in place.

Page 7: Our Lady Help of Christians 80 Demetrius Road, ROSEMEADOW

On arrival at school, students or parents are not to use the gate in the staff car park. To help ensure safety, the car park gates are locked from 8.00am until 9.00am. Parents and children are asked to use the top or bottom gates.

At 2.45pm all children leave their classrooms. Those who travel on buses or go to pick up are to go directly to their lines outside the church. Parents may move from the assembly area near the flag pole, or from the basketball courts, to their child’s classroom. Please do not wait for children outside the classroom as it is distracting for the children if they can see their parents waiting for them. Teachers will remain in their classroom for about 3 minutes after the bell and then escort the remaining children to the Canteen area where they will be supervised by the teacher on waiters’ duty. This includes any children catching JTCHS buses. The only OLHC students who can catch John Therry buses are those who have a sibling at the high school or who catch the Appin bus.

To help ensure safety, the car park gates are locked from 2.30pm until 3.10pm. Parents and children are asked to use the top or bottom gates. If parents need to remain on the premises after picking up your child/children, we are seeking your co-operation by enforcing the school rules: No eating or drinking, as litter becomes a problem since bins are not easily accessible at this time. Students must remain SEATED near the supervisor (teacher or parent).

At times, parents are unavoidably delayed and will be late in picking up their children. At 3.10pm any students remaining on the premises will be taken to the office and supervised until a carer arrives. If pick up arrangements for your child change during the day, please telephone the office so the message can be passed to your child and their teacher in a timely manner.

Waiters – One teacher is responsible for supervising students waiting for the John Therry bell. This service is provided for parents who are unable to pick up their children due to work commitments and is therefore not to be used as a “convenience”. Students are escorted to a designated area at John Therry to await collection by siblings or to board buses. At 3.20 pm, the supervising teacher will lock the top gate and escort any remaining children to the office area, where they will remain until collected by family members. If you have children at both OLHC and John Therry, please do not wait until John Therry is

dismissed to pick up your primary children. If you are available, children must be picked up at 2.45pm.

We urge your co-operation in this matter so that we can provide a safe environment for all.

Drop Off/Pick Up Zone—There is a designated area at the front of the school which is a drop off zone between 8:00am – 9:30am in the morning and a pick up zone from 2:30pm – 4:00pm in the afternoon. This zone is an area for you to “stop, drop/ pick up” your children without leaving your car. The area is particularly useful for parents who have younger children in the car. If you wish to park you will need to use the area further up the hill and the areas on the other side of the road. You are not allowed to queue past the end of the designated drop off/pick up zone. If your car will not fit completely in the section you must keep driving.

If you are going to use this method of collecting your children would you please let them know so that of an afternoon (at 2.45pm) we can escort them down. Although the set down and drop off times are designated for 1½ hours, the area will only be supervised by teaching staff from 8.10am-8.30am and 2.40pm-3.05pm. Outside of these times it will be a parent’s responsibility to ensure their child’s safety exiting and entering the vehicle.

Arrival and DepartureArrival and DepartureArrival and DepartureArrival and Departure There are two main entry points to OLHC that should be used by students and parent/carers:

Gate 1 is located on Demetrius Road approximately 20 metres from the pedestrian crossing. Gate 2 is located behind the Parish Church (closest to John Therry Catholic High School).

A number of parents/carers need to drive students to school. With limited parking available along Demetrius Road, parents/carers are asked to park legally in designated parking areas. Parents are encouraged to park their cars and walk their children to the school gates.

Parents/carers are discouraged from using the presbytery car park as it interferes with the flow of traffic in the drop off and pick up zone.

School BusesSchool BusesSchool BusesSchool Buses Private bus companies, Busabout and Picton Bus Lines, offer a service for our school. Children in Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two are entitled to free travel. Parents need to complete a bus pass application form which is available from the school office. Students in Year Three and upwards only qualify for this free pass if they travel more than 2.0 kms by the most direct road route. Non-eligible students may travel on the school bus by paying their fare. The bus pass is sent by the bus company to the school who then forward it to the child. It is important that students who catch the bus have their pass with them for each trip.

If a pass is lost a replacement pass is available, at a cost, from the bus company. In the interim, parents may contact the office for a two week travel letter which allows their child to continue to catch the bus.

As a courtesy to parents, school staff supervise children boarding the afternoon bus but there is no supervision on the bus.

School SafetySchool SafetySchool SafetySchool Safety Safety of students as they travel to and from school each day is important. It is expected that parents and care-givers will support the school through modelling safe road use.

This includes: • Using designated footpaths and school entry zones • Holding the child’s hand (for those up to 10 years of age) and actively supervising children as they

walk to and from school • Teach children to “Stop, Look, Listen and Think” every time they cross the road • Walking with children as they cross the road, rather than calling them to cross • Walking across roads at designated pedestrian crossings • Parking correctly in designated parking areas (not on Council nature strips/footpaths/across

driveways) • Using seat belt restraints for all passengers prior to driving away • Encouraging appropriate bus behaviour and demonstrating to the child not to cross a road until the

bus has left the bus stop.

Car ParkingCar ParkingCar ParkingCar Parking • Parents are not to drive their vehicle into the school grounds on school days between the hours of

8.00am – 8.30am and 2.45pm – 3.15pm. Cars should be parked in Demetrius Road, where permissible.

• Gate 3 is located in the staff/parish car park and can only be used in exceptional circumstances with authority from the school principal at arrival and departure times. Gate 3 is the access point during the day.

• Do not park in the driveway of the Parish Priest or use this car park when there are school functions • The John Therry Catholic High School car park, and the area behind the presbytery, are not to be

used under any circumstance.

Pedestrian CrossingPedestrian CrossingPedestrian CrossingPedestrian Crossing A Crossing Supervisor has been appointed by the Roads and Traffic Authority to assist students in crossing the road. Please follow the directions of this person and show courtesy and respect at all times. The supervisor is on duty from 8.00am until 9.00am and between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

Parent Induction Course/VolunteersParent Induction Course/VolunteersParent Induction Course/VolunteersParent Induction Course/Volunteers OLHC values the contribution that parents make to the school. Parents are asked to contribute to the community in a variety of ways. Volunteer parents assisting, in any capacity, need to undertake a brief induction process before their contribution within the school begins. The induction courses are of approximately 15 minutes duration and are conducted at the Kindergarten orientation and on a needs basis throughout the year. Dates for the courses will be advertised in the school newsletter. All volunteers are also required to sign a “Prohibited Employment Declaration” form. This is a legal requirement.

All helpers must sign in and sign out at the office on the days they assist in the school and wear a “Volunteer” identification badge. The badge is to be returned on signing out.

These procedures are designed to ensure the safety and welfare of all children.

Under no circumstances should a parent approach a student or parent from our school to discuss an issue which has upset or involves themselves or their child. If a parent has a problem with a student or family within our school, your child’s teacher should be notified. If necessary the

teacher will then refer the matter to the relevant person within the school.

CanteenCanteenCanteenCanteen Currently, the canteen is open for the children at Breaks 1 and 2 on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The spending limit for each child is $3.00. This amount does not include recess/lunch orders.

If your child wishes to buy recess and/or lunch, please write your child’s name, room number and what is required on a paper bag and include the correct money, if possible. Payment must accompany orders. If your child arrives at school without recess or lunch on a Canteen day, the class teacher will make arrangements for them to receive food. A slip with details and the cost will be sent home. Payment is expected as soon as possible.

A canteen helpers’ roster is prepared and sent home to parents each term. Assistance in this area is vital as lack of help will jeopardise the opportunity to provide canteen facilities and services for the students.

Change of Address/Telephone NumbersChange of Address/Telephone NumbersChange of Address/Telephone NumbersChange of Address/Telephone Numbers Parents are asked to notify the school immediately of any changes to address, telephone or emergency contact numbers. If your child is ill, it is most distressing to him/her when we are unable to contact parents because our records are out of date.

Changes to Travel ArrangementsChanges to Travel ArrangementsChanges to Travel ArrangementsChanges to Travel Arrangements If there is a change to the way your child leaves the school to go home, please notify the school in writing. This simple procedure saves a lot of heartache and worry for the child, parents and teachers. If it is a last minute change, a telephone call is acceptable.

Children will only be permitted to leave the school with a person, other than their parents, when written permission has been given from the parents whose child is being collected. In emergencies a telephone call to the school will suffice.

ClothingClothingClothingClothing All clothing is to be clearly marked with your child’s name—THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR ITEMS OF CLOTHING THAT CAN BE REMOVED eg. Hats, jumpers and track suit tops/bottoms. Lost property is taken to a basket in the room between the Years 1 and 2 classrooms.

Educational ExcursionsEducational ExcursionsEducational ExcursionsEducational Excursions During the year classroom teachers will make a decision as to whether or not an excursion might assist in achieving certain educational outcomes. An excursion will not occur without written authorisation and permission of parents. At times parents will be asked to nominate to assist with supervision. Teachers will select volunteers through a ballot system. Currently Year 5 students attend an overnight excursion to Canberra and Year 6 attend a three day camp.

FlagraisingFlagraisingFlagraisingFlagraising At 8.30am each Monday, the whole school assembles in the flag area for prayer and the national anthem.

HomeworkHomeworkHomeworkHomework Children will receive a note at the beginning of each year outlining class homework requirements.

Information Technology ProgrammeInformation Technology ProgrammeInformation Technology ProgrammeInformation Technology Programme With the integration of technology across all learning areas, students currently in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 participate in a 1:1 technology programme. As a consequence of this, and in addition to school fees, parents will be expected to purchase a device for their child (currently an iPad is the technology) which will be used at school. Please speak to the Principal if there are financial concerns in relation to this cost. Most information or answers to questions you may have can be found on the school’s iPad site by following the link on the homepage of the school website.

MedicationMedicationMedicationMedication Medication is not normally administered during school hours. If your child suffers from Asthma, you will need to provide the school office with an “Asthma Action Plan”. Children should carry their asthma medication on their person at all times. No other medication is allowed to be carried by a child. Parents whose children, under doctor’s advice, take long-term medication, will need to contact the office and fill out a “Consent to Dispense Medication” form.

Message BagMessage BagMessage BagMessage Bag Each class has a message bag which is taken to and from the office each day. Correspondence from parents to school and from school to home are sent via the children using this system. When sending notes to school, please clearly mark your envelope.

Mobile TelephonesMobile TelephonesMobile TelephonesMobile Telephones Children may bring mobile telephones to school but they must be dropped off at the office in the morning and picked up at the conclusion of the school day. Telephones must be switched to silent mode or turned off. If the telephone is not picked up in the afternoon, the mobiles will be kept in the school safe.

Mufti DaysMufti DaysMufti DaysMufti Days There will be a number of days per year when students are encouraged to turn up at school in “normal” clothing. As a consequence of being out of uniform, the students are asked to make a small donation. Please ensure that all clothing worn on these days is appropriate eg. Slogans on T-shirts. Covered in footwear must be worn and tops must provide sun protection for shoulders.

Munch ‘n CrunchMunch ‘n CrunchMunch ‘n CrunchMunch ‘n Crunch Our school supports the establishment of healthy eating habits. In the morning block the children are encouraged to snack on fresh fruit or vegetables and to drink plenty of water. Besides the healthy benefits of Munch ‘n Crunch, we know that such foods contribute to higher levels of concentration, which assists with learning.

Teacher/Parent CommunicationTeacher/Parent CommunicationTeacher/Parent CommunicationTeacher/Parent Communication Exchange of information between home and school is a vital part of school life. Parents wishing to speak to their child's teacher about school work and progress are requested to make an appointment. Teachers are always the first port of call if you, or your child, have any concerns, as they are the people who are with your child each day.

All office and classroom areas are air-conditioned.

As a matter of safety, students are not to use umbrellas at school due to potential eye injuries. Raincoats are the only option for rain protection.

If a severe storm warning is issued, parents may choose to pick their child/ren up early. If the storm breaks on home time, a lock down procedure may be put in place. The children will remain at school until the storm has abated and supervision will be provided until such time as parents collect their children.

PaymentPaymentPaymentPayment It would be greatly appreciated if all accounts for resource and school fees could be settled promptly. If any family is experiencing difficulty in paying their fees, you are asked to contact the Principal. If paying in cash, please do not leave the office without a handwritten or printed receipt. If sending your children to school with cash, no responsibility can be taken for any loss or discrepancy of the amount. When sending funds to the school, please place it in an envelope marked with your child’s name, class and an explanation of what the money is for. Parents should keep in mind that as fees increase, the direct debit originally set up, may not cover the next year’s fees and expenses. Please revise your payments at the end of each year.

Payment Options for School Fees and Additional ExpensesPayment Options for School Fees and Additional ExpensesPayment Options for School Fees and Additional ExpensesPayment Options for School Fees and Additional Expenses

School fee statements are sent to fee-payers at the beginning of Terms 1, 2 and 3. Payments can be made, in full or part, using the following methods. These methods can also be used for additional expenses such as; excursions, incursions etc.

BPay BPay allows school fee and other ancillary payments to be made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week over the telephone or internet. Check that your financial institution offers this service. The biller code and customer reference number for your account is recorded on the top right hand side of the school fee statement. Credit Cards - Statement If you elect to pay by credit card, fill in the details at the bottom of the statement and return in an envelope to the school. After entering into the finance system the details of your card are destroyed. Direct Debit – Savings Accounts This payment system can be helpful for your budget. The direct debit is a written authorisation that is given to the school by you to make a one-off payment, or payments, on a regular cycle from your savings account. An authorisation form is required to be completed and returned to the school for this payment method to occur. Any changes to the debit must also be in writing. Please note that if your direct debit payment is dishonoured bank fees, incurred by the school, will be passed onto you.

EFTPOS This facility is available at the school office for parents to transfer money for fee and other expense payments. Cash For safety and security reasons we strongly recommend that large amounts of cash are not brought to the school by students. Cheque/Money Orders Cheques and money orders must be made payable to the full school name:- “Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Primary School.” Please note that if your cheque payment is dishonoured bank fees, incurred by the school, will be passed onto you.

Should you have any queries in relation to payment options, or require the appropriate forms for payment, please contact the office.

CurriculumCurriculumCurriculumCurriculum

There are six key learning areas (KLAs) in the primary curriculum and all primary schools in NSW follow a syllabus for each area from the Board of Studies. These KLAs: English, Mathematics, Science, Human Society and its Environment (HSIE), Personal Development/Health/Physical Education (PD/H/PE) and Creative and Practical Arts (CAPA) are broad groupings of subjects. Each KLA deals with the knowledge, skills, understanding and values and attitudes that are relevant and appropriate for primary students. Subjects are organised in this way to assist teachers in managing the scope of the primary curriculum and to ensure that students have access to a well-balanced curriculum. In Catholic Schools, Religious Education is considered to be a seventh key learning area and as such, there is a daily Religious Education lesson.

Children are organised into stages for their learning. Kindergarten is Early Stage One, Years 1 and 2 are Stage One, Years 3 and 4 are Stage Two and Years 5 and 6 are Stage Three.

Staff Inservice and Staff/Personal Development Days (Pupil Free Days)Staff Inservice and Staff/Personal Development Days (Pupil Free Days)Staff Inservice and Staff/Personal Development Days (Pupil Free Days)Staff Inservice and Staff/Personal Development Days (Pupil Free Days) The Catholic Education Office allows staff a number of professional development days per year. All full time staff members are obliged to attend and other staff may be asked to do so if it is deemed necessary. To enable staff to benefit fully from these days, the children do not attend school, hence the term “Pupil Free Day”. Timely notice will be given in the newsletter to allow you to make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on these days.

From time to time teachers are required to attend in-service courses to assist them in developing new and innovative ways of teaching. Usually courses are run over one or two days. The school endeavours to minimise the disruption to student learning as much as possible but please be mindful of the fact that these professional development opportunities mean better learning and teaching. Ultimately your children are the beneficiaries of such experiences.
