SAVAGE STREET Church of Christ

Our History:

The Savage Street Church of Christ began on March 4, 1923 at 6th and H Streets. After sometime

on Evelyn Street, we moved to our present location on March 20,

1960. Join us in 2023 when we celebrate our 100th anniversary!

Sermons for Today

10:30 Service:

The Good News that Saves from Sin and Death

6:00 Service:

The Glory of God and Why We Sing

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing

in the heavenly places in Christ” – Ephesians 1.3

When you think of God having blessed you, what kink of blessings come into your mind? Do

you think of spiritual blessings?

The Place of All Spiritual Blessings

What are the spiritual blessings that we have in Christ? Paul revealed fourteen of them in verses

4–14. Value spiritual blessings.

All spiritual blessings are in the church in Christ. Those outside of Christ and those who are not faithful members of the body of Christ, do not

enjoy spiritual blessings.

God blesses us, but we can and should bless God. Bless Him in prayer, bless Him in song,

bless Him all day long.

We sit in the heavenly places

– Ephesians 2.6

1. Baptismal laundry- check for towels after a baptism.

2. Kitchen laundry- check the kitchen weekly for towels or rags.

3. If your feeling really ambitious you could take home all of the Church afghans and lap blankets for a quick wash.

Communion See Nancy Watkins, or the Tomlinson's for for more information on how to prepare communion.

2020 Volunteer Opportunities

It is the begging of a new year and the bulletin board next to the teachers supply room has volunteer positions available. I am challenging you all to sign up for something. For example if you made a New Years resolution to get to know your Church family better, you could be a greeter. I have found this is a easy way to get to know others better. Do you have a washer? You could take the church laundry home to wash. Would you like to prepare the communion for a month? Or maybe you could host one of our monthly potlucks. Potlucks are fun and are such a great way to spend time with our Church family. We also have a bulletin board in the hallway that looks nice and welcoming when decorated. Kids can volunteer for most of these opportunities too. Take a look and sign up.

With Love in Christ, Rebekah

If you have any questions about these volunteer positions don't hesitate to ask me. I have more information in the office.

It Is Good to Know

Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge,

And he sins who hastens with his feet.

– Proverbs 19.2

If you do not have all the facts, you will be tempted to rush in and make a judgment that will not be accurate. Therefore, think and investigate, for then you will know as you ought to know, and you will avoid sinning by hastening with your feet.

Men, When You Are Speaking Up Front Many of the older people cannot hear what is being said from the pulpit. Men, you have to speak into the microphone, and when you do, if you do not hear your voice coming over the PA system, I can guarantee you that many of the older people cannot hear what you are saying. The one controlling the sound system can raise the level, but then it will start to produce feed back and that will make the speaker back away. Please speak into the microphone and speak up. Do not let your own voice frighten you.

Boys on the Fifth SundayWe should have had the boys-led service on the evening of the fifth Sunday in December, but I had been out of town, and I was sick for a week, and some other distractions and I was not able to work with them for the service. Now, they are involved in Leadership Training for Christ until April, and that takes up much of their time. Therefore, we will resume in May.

Thankfulness “We are in a wrong state of mind if we are not in a thankful state of mind.” – Charles Spurgeon

“The man who forgets to be thankful has fallen asleep in life.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

“God has two dwellings; one in heaven, and the other in a meek and thankful heart.” – Isaac Walton

Call on the Lord Lord God in heaven, we call upon you because you are our God and you give us every blessing in this world. We praise you for all of those blessings. (Based on Genesis 12.7–8.)
