Happy New Year Everyone!
Christmas Thanks! I want to thank all who attended, encouraged, and especially the Celebration Choir Members
and Orchestra who participated in our Christmas Cantata "The Silence and The Sound." It was
a blessing to participate in and hear our musicians present the Gospel of Jesus so well.
We had a full house (421 people in the morning service) and about 188 people in the afternoon,
and most of them visitors. Now I look forward to all the opportunities this new year will present.
Together, let's resolve to do more OUTREACH and be serious about the Great Commission,
and overflow this place.
Some of you have been thinking about joining the Music Ministry, so here is your opportunity.
Orchestra & Choir Rehearsals resume on Wednesday, January 11; Handbells on Tuesday, Janu-
ary 10.
Choral: If you have a singing voice and a desire to praise our Lord through music, you are hearti-
ly invited to join our Celebration Choir (7:10 pm. on Wednesdays beginning January 11, 2017).
Instrumental: The same invitation is extended for the "Light" Ensemble, if you play an instru-
ment of at least Grade 3 level ability and have or would get your instrument (5:15 pm. on Wednes-
days beginning January 11). We do have a bass guitar with amp should we find a bass player
needing one to use here at our church.
Hand Bells: The Celebration Bells meet on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. and would also welcome
other players who read music. Substitutes are always needed. See Becky Harvey or email her at
Again, happy new year everyone,
Jim Raney, Minister of Music
Volunteer Video / Computer Operators Needed Balboa Baptist is securing cameras and switching equipment to
livestream our morning services to an overflow room and the internet.
We need 3 Volunteers (ladies or gentlemen) to serve on a rotating basis.
Each service would require a team of 2 people. We have one experienced
person and will provide detailed hands-on training in late February.
Experienced or not, if you are willing to be trained and serve in this
important ministry, please see Bruce Harvey (922-8641), David Riley
(984-3256), or Pastor Jim ([email protected]) for further information.

DALE AND SHELLA CLANCY
Shella, what a pretty name: born in Biloxi, MS and named after pretty sea shells. Her mom and
dad were both serving in the USAF when Shella was born. She spent her first nine years in
London, England. After their being stationed in several different states, they moved to Jones-
boro, AR. Shella’s world began to change after that—some good and some bad. While living
in a local shelter, she attended Geyer Springs Baptist Church and accepted the Lord Jesus
Christ as her Savior at that time. She then lived in the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home in
Monticello for the last grades in HS. (As most of you know, our church and several SS classes
support the children’s home). After graduating HS at Monticello, she attended Ouachita Baptist Univ. for 4 ½ years carrying a dou-
ble major: Christian Ed/Psychology. Her career has been varied, working in professional management since 2001. Her last posi-
tion as a paralegal served several attorneys in the local area. Shella has one son, Parker, 11, who lives with his father in Sacshe, TX.
Dale’s home life was quite different, having grown up in a Christian home. He was born in Anaheim, CA and accepted Jesus
Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was five years old. At age 15 he and his family moved to Kula, Hawaii (really tough!). Dale
surrendered his life to full-time ministry at the age of 15, on the roof of the pastor’s home. After graduating from Maui HS, he
began college at Tennessee Temple Univ. at Chattanooga, TN and then transferred to William Carey Univ. in Hattiesburg, MS
earning a BM in Church Music. After graduation—believe it or not—he began driving an 18-wheeler for one year, and then a tour
bus out of Hattiesburg for a while and served as the Worship Pastor at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Then, as he put it: “Katrina
Hit!!” (His home was without power for a month and he learned to cook Hamburger Helper on a BBQ grill!) In 2006, he moved to
North Little Rock where he began his full-time ministerial service as the Assistant Pastor/ Worship and Education Pastor at Levy
Baptist. While at Levy, He became a chaplain for the NLR Police Dept., a position he still holds. Dale earned his MDiv in Chap-
laincy from Liberty University online. After serving several churches in the Little Rock/Hot Springs area, he now lovingly shep-
herds the residents of Good Sam’s, here in the Village.
Because Dale was familiar with the ministry of Pastor Denny and the reputation of our church in the local area, he and Shella made
this their church home. Sadly, they are unable to attend Sunday morning services and SS due to Dale’s responsibilities at Good
Sam’s; he preaches two services on Sundays: one at 10:30am and the other at 1:30pm. However, they are members of the His
Mighty Worker’s S.S. Class and attend on Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
Please welcome this friendly couple. You will be blessed!

It really seems to soon to close out the year and move into 2017, especially since I was just
getting comfortable with using 2016 on the Beacon articles. We, the library committee and vol-
unteers of the library would like to wish each of you a very Happy New Year in 2017. We are
very thankful for allowing us to serve you in this ministry and hope that you will take time out
to come by and see what we are all about.
We also want to thank each of you who have made donations (monetary or media) to us as we
always need contributions. Your assistance goes a long way since we try to be frugal when we
make out our budget each year. We appreciate each of the classes that give donation in
honor their teacher's birthday and in memory of a member's loss of family member.
New to our BBC library this month is a book recommended by our pastor written by Nik Rip-
ken, known as the world's leading expert on the persecuted church in Muslim contexts. He is a
missions veteran of twenty-five years, having served primarily in North Africa and the Middle
East. The Insanity of God: A true story of faith resurrected tells the story of being taught by be-
lievers in persecution “how to follow Jesus, how to love Jesus, and how to walk with Him day
by day. We may think we would rather live like the world than to do the “insane” things that
Jesus asks of us. But are we really more joyful than those walking the darkest, craziest paths?
What does it mean if we are not? Is God truly enough? Your questions can be answered in The
Insanity of God.
Also, two DVDs have been added to our collection of Christian and Family movies. Be sure to
watch More Than a Chance, the story of a little girl with BIG faith. Two-year-old Kelsey
Jurgen, surrendered by a poverty-stricken single mother to a Russian orphanage, is adopted by
a childless American couple. Shortly after arriving in America, Kelsey is viciously assaulted by
her adoptive father with uncontrolled rage that severs the child's spine, leaving her a paraple-
gic. Afterward she is taken in as a foster child by Caroline Mihalex and her husband Paul who
hear the girl’s story on the news. Kelsey must first learn to trust adults before she can begin to
heal. Truly an inspiring story!
The other new DVD is titled Hope Bridge that tells us where there is hope, there is life. A
young man, Jackson, goes searching for the truth behind the suicide of his father. The school
counselor, Eric wants to help Jackson deal with his grief. Jackson also encounters a troubled
girl, Sophie. Together they search for answers to their past. Will they remain bogged down in
troubled time or will they move forward and find hop for the future? Two stories that can be
watched by the family!
We hope you will COME BY AND CHECK US OUT!!!
