The Gran Teatro de La Habana opened in 1838 and is home of the Cuban National Ballet and the International Ballet Festival of Havana.Recently, the theater underwent an audio renovation and K-array was selected as the audio solution to outfit the theater.

Using simulation software, the unique and discreet system, which included the main PA, front fill and under balcony, was designed to have the most even and powerful coverage for all seating while maintaining the lowest visual impact possible.

Teatro alla ScalaThe Teatro alla Scala’s new amplification system was recently inaugurated for Woolf Works, a ballet inspired by three well-known novels by Virginia Woolf – Production of The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, and London – in an unprecedented collaboration with the Scaliger Ballet directed by Wayne McGregor featuring Italian ballerina Alessandra Ferri as the guest principle.

With the latest update in 1992, the need for a new resident amplification system became imminent in 2016 and thus began the search for an invisible audio solution that was simple to install, adaptable for all different types of shows and that provided clear, uniform sound. The theater’s head sound engineer identified these requirements in K-array.

A K-array loudspeaker system composed of a long line array of customized Python-KP102 loudspeakers mounted on each side of the proscenium arch at London’s Royal Opera House is so discreet it is almost invisible.

Royal Opera House’s head of sound collaborated with the integrator to design a system that is adaptable to the theater’s shows as well as other commercial events hosted in the venue.

The overall performance of the system, providing 720W from 12 drivers in each section from the Pythons on each side, really gains momentum with 96 3.15” drivers providing around 5,760W, a dispersion of seven degrees vertical and 100 degrees horizontal and weighing in at 96kg, making it a system like no other.

Unisinos Theater

Based in São Leopoldo, Unisnos is one of the most prestigious privately-owned teaching institutions in Brazil, with more than 31,000 students and 47 years of history. Beside the great effort in education and research, the university has a reputation immense cultural achievements, mainly in the musical field, including a top notch orchestra conducted by Evandro Matté.

Recognizing the need for a new theater to accommodate the growth of the university, Unisinos constructed a 550-seat theater to host the orchestra and also serve as a multi-purpose space for classes and seminars. Matté required a powerful system for the orchestra and high speech intelligibility was needed for the other applications, but regardless of use, invisibility was a must. The team created a discreet system comprised of Python line arrays. The system is hidden in plain view and provides uniform coverage throughout the venue.

Thessaloniki Concert Hall is a center for the performing arts in Thessaloniki, Greece. Opened in 2000, the complex boasts an auditorium that seats 1,400 and a number of smaller performance spaces in more contemporary style designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki.

The hall needed a powerful sound with long throw to cover the entire audience with uniform coverage, specifically for Mario Frangoulis’ Stranger in Paradise performance accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of Thessaloniki conducted by Luke Karytinos.

Frangoulis’ sound engineer selected a K-array system comprised of flown Kayman loudspeakers in LCR order.

The legendary David Geffen Hall was the first completed concert hall in New York City’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts complex on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The 2,738-seat auditorium opened in 1962 and is the home of the New York Philharmonic.

The Hall was repurposed into a movie theater when it presented four Star Wars films which consisted of the film screenings accompanied by John Williams’ iconic score performed live by the 100-plus piece orchestra.

The challenges for the audio team were to ensure the dialogue was clear, the effects were physically palpable and that the orchestra was able to successfully perform the soundtrack without too much power. After trying many different speaker configurations, K-array proved a be key to coverage because of its Electronic Beam Steering technology and was ultimately selected to comprise the main PA.

PythonStainless steel line array element with 3.15” drivers

The Python is a discreet passive speaker comprised of 3.15” drivers housed in a resistant stainless steel frame rendering it resistant to corrosion, rust or stain - perfect for a great variety of both indoor and outdoor applications. The Python line contains two sizes: a half meter-long model, KK52 I, and meter-long model, KK102 I, and can reproduce the whole vocal frequency range with high intelligibility.

Composed of closely-spaced, full-range sound sources, the Python features Pure Array Technology (PAT). With no crossover and no reflex, it shows a perfect phase response both in the near and in the far fields, which makes this column the perfect solution to cover long distances uniformly. The narrow vertical coverage minimizes the sound spill towards the ceiling and the floor, thus increasing the intelligibility in highly reverberant environments optimal for theater setups, broadcast studios and houses of worship.

A variety of rigging accessories provides many linking and hanging options to be combined in vertical and horizontal line array configurations to satisfy many different venue requirements during temporary events and for permanent installations.

Python is available in black or white or customizable with the finest finishes, such as polished, brushed and 24K gold-plated stainless steel, to give it a chameleon-like ability to reflect surrounding surfaces and blend in with the background. The speakers can also be matched to any RAL color code, rendering the loudspeakers a true design element.

When we talk about unique audio solutions, our Anakonda series is the first one that comes to mind as it’s the most revolutionary speaker in our product portfolio. Our Thunder line gives you all the boom with bass you need for installation applications. With both passive and active models in various sizes starting from 12” to 21” and dual 18”, the Thunder line is a high performance sub-bass system featuring a woofer with magnet structure and suspension engineered for maximum linear excursion.

The subwoofers – KMT12P, KMT12, KMT18P, KMT18, KMT21P KMT21, KMT218 and KMT218P – contain a unique four-corner port configuration which provides symmetrical back loading to the speakers for extended bass response with very low distortion and provides incredible structural strength to the cabinet despite its light weight.

Pocket handles and an M20 thread mount position for attaching mid-high speakers make the subwoofers convenient to use and ideal for applications in theaters, concert halls, and restaurant installations.

More than just powered subwoofers, our active models depart from traditional subs in that their “smart” design puts electronics as the central component, transforming the mid-low frequency loudspeaker into a proper tool for the management and processing of the audio signal. These multi-tasking subwoofers include an integrated touch screen providing intuitive control over the main DSP functions, two balanced analog line level inputs and a two-channel AES/EBU digital input, and an onboard Class D amplifier. It’s possible to connect a wide array of passive speakers including mid-high models or additional passive subwoofers.

To optimize performance, the onboard DSP includes up to 40 programmable presets. The first 8 have been designed by K-array, the additional 32 slots can be used to create, save, and store personal presets using the K-framework software. And with the K-dante accessory, the subwoofers are able to connect to the Dante network for audio and data transmissions.

Components from the K-array subwoofer line, Rumble, have been conceived to create a smaller, yet extremely powerful bass system engineered for maximum linear excursion and minimum residual noise.

The Rumble line is a companion to the K-array Lyzard, Vyper, Tornado and Anakonda speakers. The combination provides full range frequency response with prodigious output and a virtually invisible profile. The subwoofers, KU26, KU44, KU210 and KU212, all boast extended low frequency response and are electronically protected.

The subs are made entirely of steel, making them extremely resistant, even when deployed outside in tough weather conditions. This is ideal for water-front environments where ordinary bass speakers would corrode. They are impenetrable by foreign objects like dust, sand or water, which over time can damage an ordinary audio element.

Rumble is available in black or white with the option for customization with RAL colors and brushed, polished and 24K gold plated finishes to adapt to the aesthetics for almost all applications and includes integrated flying points for various setups.

CaptureIncredibly thin line array microphone with Pure Array Technology

Ever since we launched our first slim column speaker in 2007, we have maintained our leadership in sleek line arrays. With every subsequent product release, we’ve managed to perfect our line arrays composed of closely-spaced, full-range sound sources by incorporating our Pure Array Technology.

This same technology is now being applied to our line of microphones. The Capture series has three different models – the KMC20, KMC20V and KMC20H – to adapt to different mounting needs and feature 8 x 4 mm cardiod capsules aligned in a line array configuration and includes a preamplifier (48V Phantom power required).

With all the advantages of a K-array Pure Array Technology, the Captures shows a minimal variation of gain with distance. As a result, the distance between the orator and the microphone is not crucial allowing the orator to move towards or away from the mic freely without strongly affecting the volume or audio quality.

The polar response is cardioid in the horizontal plane and very narrow in the vertical plan, therefore, when mounted in vertical, not only does the mic not pick up sound from behind, but it’s also insensitive to sounds that come from above and below, strongly reducing the amount of ambient sound captured. Being very wide in the horizontal plane, a single microphone can pick up more people and gives maximum freedom of movement to the right and left without volume fluctuations.

When mounted in horizontal, the microphone shows very narrow horizontal pick-up angle and cardioid vertical polar patter, resulting in capturing only the person in front of the microphone while standing or sitting.
