IntroductionThe Māoriland Film Festival is held annually in Ōtaki on New Zealand’s Kāpiti Coast, just an hour outside of Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city.
Ōtaki has beaches, rivers, forests and mountain ranges and a welcoming community with a thriving Māori culture. This is what makes the Māoriland Film Festival unique.
MFF2016 celebrates Indigenous films from around the globe with the Sámi in the Arctic, through Europe, Canada and the Middle East and across the Americas to Australia and around the Pacific including Aotearoa.
From March 23 - 27th (Easter), we invite you to spend the five days of the festival immersed in films, workshops and kōrerō with the filmmakers. Vote for your favourite film and be part of the positive buzz that is MFF2016.

E tū whānau rangatahi filmsEach year, the Māoriland Film Festival holds the E Tū Whānau Rangatahi Filmmaking Awards.
The E Tū Whānau Rangatahi Filmmaking Awards challenges young indigenous filmmakers to submit films of any genre that are inspired by one of the E Tū Whānau core values.
Visit maorilandfilm.co.nz/rangatahi-filmmaking-competition/ for details.
Director’s noteThe small whānau behind the scenes have been working hard to make this our best festival yet. We’ve been out and about from Ōtaki to Ōpōtiki to Canada, the Pacific and many places in between. It has been an honour and pleasure to view a lot of fine kiriata and to bring these to you. Tēnā koutou katoa.
Thank you to all who support the Māoriland Film Festival, especially our patrons, co-presenters and friends of the Festival.
To all our rangatahi who are our storytellers both now and in the future: We hope that you will be uplifted and inspired by what you see, and by the wisdom of filmmakers from around the world. Ka nui ngā mihi maioha atu nei.
And to our growing whānau of indigenous filmmakers from around the world, who have travelled to be with us, or who have sent us their films: We are honoured by your trust and aroha. As we grow our indigenous film circle around the globe we have much to look forward to.
Tūrou Hawaiki. Have an extra-ordinary Māoriland Film Festival 2016!
