Dr. David Michaels, OSHA's top leader, recently told a group of construction industry advisors about the impact the January 1, 2015, serious injury reporting rule change is having. Michaels said that the agency is receiving hundreds of reports per week. In many cases, the reports are coming from employers that OSHA never knew existed they had not previously been on any OSHA inspection lists. Representative to cosponsor the Lead Exposure Reduction Amendments Act (H.R. 2328).The legislation, introduced on Thursday, May 14, would reform the EnvironmentalProtection Agency's (EPA) Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule for residentialbuilding. Among the key provisions in the bill, it would restore the opt­out clause andrequire EPA to identify a test kit meeting the rule's standards.

The legislation was introduced by Rep. Kevin Cramer (R­ND). In addition, H.R. 2328 haseight original cosponsors including Reps. Rod Blum (R­IA), Chris Collins (R­NY), CharlesFleischmann (R­TN), Tim Murphy (R­PA), Collin Peterson (D­MN), Pete Sessions (R­TX),Steve Stivers (R­OH) and Lynn Westmoreland (R­GA). NLBMDA has made passage of H.R.2328 a top legislative priority and we encourage you to take action now by contacting yourrepresentative and asking them to cosponsor the Lead Exposure Reduction Amendments Actby clicking HERE.

Employee OSHA Training Requirements on Product Label Elements and Safety Data  Sheets DVD NLBMDA has produced a 15­minute training DVD that dealers can use to train their employees on the new OSHArequirements, which went into effect December 1, 2013. OSHA has revised its Hazard Communication Standard(HazCom) to align with the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals(GHS). The revisions require employees potentially exposed to hazardous material be trained on the new labeling and SafetyData Sheet (SDS) requirements. This employee training is based on the specific topics that OSHA has determined mustbe provided by employers for employees.
