These new applicants can now register for an account, upload documents, search for clerkship positions, and build online applications. The system will store these applications and release them to judges on June 14, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. EDT. Have You Posted Your Positions? As we move into the hiring season, remember to post your positions, share them with law schools, and update your hiring preferences in OSCAR. Log into your OSCAR account and refer to the OSCAR training pages for video tutorials, quick reference guides, resource pages for judges and staff attorney offices, and other resources. How Do I... Advertise My Position to Ensure a Diverse Applicant Pool? Direct communication with law schools allows chambers and staff attorney offices to increase the visibility of their clerkship/staff attorney openings and the diversity of their applicant pool. With OSCAR’s email tool, you can communicate directly with any law school listed in OSCAR and notify them of an open position. Emailing law schools using OSCAR is easy, since you can reach multiple recipients with a single personalized email. OSCAR even provides a default email template to help you get started. To create and send emails to law schools in OSCAR, follow the steps below. Sending Emails to Law Schools in OSCAR 1. Log into your OSCAR account. 2. Under Tools in the left navigation, select Law Schools. OSCAR displays a list of participating law schools. 3. You can use search to find particular schools or schools in certain geographic regions. For instance, you could search for all law schools in New York. Or, you can scroll down the list to locate any participating law schools. Check the box for the schools you want to email. 4. Then, click the Batch Options dropdown menu at the top of the list of schools. 5. Select Mail from the dropdown menu and select New Message or a template (see below for instructions on creating email templates). The Mail Wizard will open and take you through the steps for composing, reviewing, and sending your email message. Templates allow you to use “merge fields” to create an email that OSCAR automatically customizes for each recipient. For instance, OSCAR will automatically replace the [school] merge field with the name of the law school receiving the email. 2. OSCAR displays your list of email templates. A default template called “Notice of New PositionOpened” is provided to all chambers. To make your own template, click the Add New button.

3. Fill in all the required fields on the email template form. These include Message Identifier (a labelfor your template, e.g., "Notification of New Position Open"), the Subject (e.g., "New ClerkshipPosition Available"), who you want them to Reply to, and your message in the HTML Body andPlain Text Body areas.

4. If you want to include a merge field in your email template, go to the Available fields box, and clickthe [merge field] you want to use. This will insert it into your email.

5. If you want to add an attachment to your template, click the Add Item button below the Plain TextBody section. OSCAR prompts you to select and upload your attachment.

6. Click Submit to save the email template.
