OS32C Area Laser Scanner Setup and Troubleshooting Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

Software 1. Load software to computer. It is found at http://www.sti.com/products/OS32C/index.htm

2. Open up the zipped file and run the .exe file

Demo Case Hardware Setup

1. Set case so surface handle is on top. 2. Lift locking tab and rotate to the left to unlatch. 3. Remove area laser area scanner and yellow control box. 4. Connect these by attaching the large black cables with silver twist connects. 5. Remove the blue Ethernet cable 6. Attach the Ethernet cable to the scanner. 7. Attach the other end of the Ethernet cable to your computer 8. Connect the power. The outlet is on the side of the yellow control box.

Connect PC to Demo Case Scanner (Easy Way) 1.) Make sure computer is disconnected from network systems (such as docking stations). Also turn off

wireless. 2.) Hold down the reset button on the yellow control box as you turn the power on. 3.) Watch the LEDs on the scanner. Within 5 seconds of them blinking (in a circular pattern), release the

reset button. 4.) Disconnect the Ethernet cable. 5.) Reconnect the Ethernet cable. (This will start automatic address acquisition. Takes 55 seconds.) 6.) Open up the software and you will see the IP address of the scanner. 7.) Select it. 8.) It will let you know the scanner is connected and give you the scanner’s IP address.

Set IP on Computer & Discover Hardware

1.) From computer (Windows) 2.) Start 3.) Control Panel 4.) View network status and tasks 5.) Local area connections 4 6.) Properties 7.) Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 8.) Select “Use the following IP address” 9.) Set the IP address, using the same first three sections as the

scanner. The last section must be different. 10.) Use the same subnet Mask. (Should enter automatically

when you select it.) 11.) “OK” to accept and close the windows.

Synchronize Scanner with Software

1.) From computer, open up OS32C Configuration Tool. 2.) Verify the local address of the scanner is okay and press Continue. It will search for scanners.

3.) If you receive this error (unable to find sensor), power down and back up for the computer and scanner. Make sure you are not on a network and the wireless if off.

4.) Change access level to supervisor. The password is “supeusr.” Press Continue.

8.) Define Zones

9.) On the top tool bar, select the foreground and zone#.

10.) On Top tool bar, select “Configuration”, and “Edit Zone”.

11.) Drag the white dots to set the zone area.

12.) If you need to know where items are located so you

can set the zones around those, On the tool bar select configuration, then sculpting.

13.) If you have the scanner sculpt the zone automatically, to get out of the feature you need to select “Reference Boundry” on the toolbar, then “Save Reference Boundary Setting.”

14.) To download configuration to the scanner, on the toolbar select “Configuration”, “Send to Sensor / Enter CFG Mode” and “Entire Configuration”.

9.) Select “OK” to accept and close the windows

Presentation Information

The minimum object resolution is displayed on the display for 5 seconds when powering up.

Ethernet configuration displayed for 5 seconds.

SP = static IP address

dP = DHCP IP address (DHCP is a mode that connects PC and OS32C with a dynamic IP address setting.)

Troubleshooting New Installations

Not able to download program to scanner

Check wiring.

Red and yellow wires go to inputs on the safety device.

In this diagram they are going to force guided relays.

They could also be connected to a safety controller, such as the G9SP or NX, with final outputs through

the force guided relay, or STO built into devices such as the G5 servo drive or MX2 inverter.

The white wire goes to 24 V.

The brown wire goes to 0 V.

The black wire goes to 0 V.

The brown/white wire goes to 0 V.

If using a switching regulatory power supply, ground the FG terminal (frame ground terminal)

Wire on a 24 VDC, negative (protective earth) electrical system. PNP

Dust Detection Circuit

Indicator sector (x8)

Can be programmed for safety or warning zone intrusion

Dust detection circuit (x7)

measures contamination level on the lens

Intermittent stopping ….. slow response from stop to clear

1.) Dust accumulation on window 2.) Zone configured too close to object 3.) Crosstalk or other infrared interference

Use the PC configuration tool to monitor the scanner for tight zones or highly reflective objects, airborne particles, or smoke

Dust contamination detection

81-100% clear Normal operation

61-80% clear Orange light is flashing

<60% clear Unit stops and has 80 or 81 code

Note: Accumulation approaching 60% may experience momentary “80” error code and stops
