The comments have been entered on behalf of our community, and include concerns suggesons and ideas from individuals, households and businesses. We all recognise the difficules both local and naonal government face in trying match the need for fresh air and green spaces with delivering affordable housing. However we have been advised that this proposal is mistakenly evidenced, fails to comply with Government procedures set out in the Garden Communies Prospectus and conflicts with evidence presented in the Greater Nongham Growth Opons Study that underpins the GNSP report. The Government said in 2018 that, Garden Villages must demonstrate exceponal quality or innovaon, be sited on predominantly brownfield sites and be in an area of parcularly high housing demand. They said that they should also be able to expand substanally further in the future and that the local community should be involved right from the start. It should have a meaningful say in developing the proposal from design to delivery. The proposal fails to meet any of these criteria. The Greater Nongham Partnership plan said any new proposal should generate new jobs, address climate change and reflect local disncveness and character. The proposals once again fail to meet these criteria. The report also wrongly describes the site The area is visually enclosed due to the flat topography and field boundaries. It is not. It stands on a ridgeway. The area to the west of Staon Road stands on a steep hill facing west towards Bingham and Nongham. The area to the east of Staon Road, along the 30-metre contour, is higher than the land towards the north and west. Any development here will be clearly visible. Overall, it is our view that the informaon contained in the Growth Study Report seriously overstates the potenal of the site through error, omission, and inadequate analysis. We have recommended that the proposal should be withdrawn from strategic consultaon and referred back to Rushcliffe Borough Council and the local community for resoluon. Orston Spa

With the opening up of the countryside by the railways in the mid-nineteenth century, many villages with railway access attempted to promote their spas to encourage visitors. It is mentioned in the 1769 “Description of England and Wales” “At Orston is a mineral water which as it rises out of the spring, has a sweet chalybete, and a little roughish taste; but when it has stood for sometime it becomes harsh. With the addition of a little predominating salt of a calcareous nitre it will purge those of a Gross Habit of Body, and turn the throat and tongue of its Drinker perfectly Black. It

is good in the Hypochrondiac Melencholy, Scurvy, want of Appetite, Costiveness, Stoppage of the urine, Obstruction of the Bowels, Ulcers in the Lungs, Indigestion, Pain in the Stomach, and to aid the Vaporous Debility of Ladies.” The Orston Grafters have returned most of the roadside hedge of the Spa to it’s original ‘laid hedge’, we can confirm no birds nest or any other wildlife ‘homes’ were in the hedge . We will return to finish off on the 23rd

September and clear the cuttings which are laid to one side out of harms way . We also felled some self set small trees to thin out and allow more light in to the area.

Orston Garden Village Proposal

Following the two very successful open evenings, the Parish Council have now submitted their response to the Greater Nottingham Planners.

The comments have been entered on behalf of our community, and include concerns suggestions and ideas from individuals, households and businesses. We all recognise the difficulties both local and national government face in trying match the need for fresh air and green spaces with delivering affordable housing. However we have been advised that this proposal is mistakenly evidenced, fails to comply with Government procedures set out in the Garden Communities Prospectus and conflicts with evidence presented in the Greater Nottingham Growth Options Study that underpins the GNSP report.

The Government said in 2018 that, Garden Villages must demonstrate exceptional quality or innovation, be sited on predominantly brownfield sites and be in an area of particularly high housing demand. They said that they should also be able to expand substantially further in the future and that the local community should be involved right from the start. It should have a meaningful say in developing the proposal from design to delivery.

The proposal fails to meet any of these criteria.

The Greater Nottingham Partnership plan said any new proposal should generate new jobs, address climate change and reflect local distinctiveness and character.

The proposals once again fail to meet these criteria.

The report also wrongly describes the site “The area is visually enclosed due to the flat topography and field boundaries.”

It is not.

It stands on a ridgeway. The area to the west of Station Road stands on a steep hill facing west towards Bingham and Nottingham. The area to the east of Station Road, along the 30-metre contour, is higher than the land towards the north and west. Any development here will be clearly visible.

Overall, it is our view that the information contained in the Growth Study Report seriously overstates the potential of the site through error, omission, and inadequate analysis.

We have recommended that the proposal should be withdrawn from strategic consultation and referred back to Rushcliffe Borough Council and the local community for resolution.

The two open evenings were attended by over 130 people and have generated over 230 letters in objection to the Garden Village, with more still to come in!

There will be copies of the letter from the open evenings on the village noticeboard and also on the village website: https://orstonparish.co.uk/. So if you wish to object, and haven't done so yet, just fill one in and send it to the address on the letter. Remember all members of your household aged over 18 can and should object.

Use your voice! Let’s squash this proposal!

It is crucial you send your objections to our MP Robert Jenrick email: [email protected] and also Councillor Sarah Bailey email: [email protected] plus Councillor Francis Perdu-Horan email: [email protected]

PLEASE NOTE: Consultation closing date is 14th September
