The Woodworking Machinery Industry Association (WMIA) and the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America (WMMA) represent different segments of the industry and were established a number of years apart, WMIA in 1977 and WMMA in 1899. The first Battle of Flowers® Parade was held in 1891 to honor the fallen heroes of the Alamo and to commemorate the victory at the Battle of San Jacinto which gained Texas independence from Mexico. The tradition of honoring those heroes contin-ues with the presentation of floral tributes as each entry passes the Alamo.
